There was an explosion near my oldest's school. They are on lockdown.

byjove If they got rid of special education services, that would be in violation of the federal IDEA laws which requires free education services to children with disabilities, so it would be ripe for a lawsuit real quick.

Getting rid of equity and inclusion for students is a slippery slope. Where will they stop?

IDEA will be the biggest area to challenge it.

athn64 That's scary. I hope no one was hurt. She just got home, and lockdown has ended. Reports are the house was vacant. I think they do suspect someone set it off. Last I heard, there was a manhunt. Of course, she's got all sorts of wild rumors she heard.

Glad she's home and no one was hurt. Still so damn scary, though.

According to NPR, Menendez has decided against running for re-election. I had read he was running, so someone finally talked sense into him.

I saw Mar-a-Lago is being seized on Monday. Hehehehehehe Does this mean he has to move out? I know normally it would, but rich people (or in this case "rich" people) live by different rules. My gosh, I hope it's just like the first episode of Schitt's Creek. He could grab and cry over his wigs and everything!

Getting rid of equity and inclusion for students is a slippery slope. Where will they stop? This is also going to affect educator professional development. I produce PD and DEI content for educators, some in Alabama, and it's going to restrict a lot of people's good work. Research, advocacy, outreach, it's all going to have to stop. It's just another step to tear down public education, that's their goal after all.

What are squater's rights in FL, I am seriously doubting they have very good renter protections. Loving this for next week Donald.

One of those "obscenity" book bills made its way to the floor at the beginning of this week in NE. The introducer was the same who brought the save the embryos, which she called babies, bill last year. Old conservative lady, being an old conservative lady. Because she is completely uncomfortable defending her own bill, the filibuster was then countered by other senators. One of whom decided it was a good idea to read from a rape survivor's memoir, claiming it is required reading but never stating which school or district the claim came from. During the reading, he interjected a surname of 2 senators. After the backlash, he is attempting to claim he was speaking to the male and not the female, just trying to get their attention. However, it was then disclosed that he had read this same passage off the mic to 2 female senators, one of who's surname he was then interjecting into the reading. Some actually spoke on his behalf claiming immunity for what is spoken on the floor. The way they are trying to claim that this book being available in school libraries (which parents can opt out of any book for their child across the state by simply asking) and the most graphic part being read aloud, broadcast to homes across the state, with another senator's name being inserted multiple times is so beyond and yet on par. Next Thursday is the public hearing, so hopefully the right thing is done. He really should resign, but 2 harassment claims from elected officials in a little over a year is a lot. There are video links at the bottom of this, I am not certain if Hall.oran's included, but trigger warning if you do choose to click on them. His photo is a still in the linked article, so you can recognize him. www.wowt.com/2024/03/21/senator-files-resolution-censure-senator-steve-halloran-explicit-comments/

So the minibus passed before she could cause chaos in both keeping a budget from passing and ousting Johnson?
