I forget what number season it is. Anyone else watching? The giant gecko is killing me for some reason.
My random pick for winner is Soda, I can’t help but root for a Special Ed teacher.
Jelinski is the worst.

I’m here watching. Also currently watching Australian Survivor, which just had one of the best first episodes ever (several weeks ago), and it’s such a slap in the face to watch a first episode like this when someone goes home with 3 votes because 2 people already lost their vote. Didn’t care for Jalinsky anyway so no love lost but still… I’ll never get over the bad choices US survivor makes

I was not sorry at all to see Jelinsky go. My goodness he was annoying and so not self-aware.

It also bugged me that he broke the hour glass. Really, dude?
I will say I was surprised that they didn't take a moment to think how to plug the holes in their buckets. Fingers were obviously not going to be super effective but using one's buff, some mud/sand etc never crossed their minds. But in fairness to poor Q, Jelinsky was done before he even started.

Breaking the hour glass was such a hissy fit. H and I died when he started saying several hours meant 7.

Yeah, I think I am done with American Survivor. The casting has been getting worse and worse. I am watched since the first episode of season, but it is no longer compelling to watch. They have made it racially diverse with LGBTQ representation, but it is almost like the contestants are more alike than ever before.
But, this season of Australian Survivor is great, so far, totally would love to discuss that.

I'm just not excited about American Survivor anymore. They've made the gameplay so convoluted with all of the lost votes, extra votes, use this at this time but not at that time nonsense.

I love that they had made the casting so much more diverse but it seems that very few actually grasp what the game is about or how rough the conditions will be. When you add in all of the twists, advantages, hidden immunity idols, et al, I'm kind of over all of it.
I wish they would just have old-school Survivor in terms of one reward challenge and an immunity challenge and enough with all of the rest. It worked amazingly well for roughly the first half of the show's existence which I would argue were the golden years of the show.

This is my first time watching live, as 2023 was the year I spent catching up on all the past seasons. It’s been fun to get on Twitter after each episode and see what everyone is saying. I finally have my husband watching with me, after he saw bits and pieces of the last few seasons and witnessed the greatness of George. He walked in on Wednesday and saw the US version and was like ugh what’s this? Then when he saw the 3 votes, even he was like that’s ridiculous and so stupid. And why are there 3 tribes with less people in the first place? I was like boyyyy trust me I get it.

I was so happy to see them have (somewhat) shitty weather on Day 1 And I’m just basing that off the not calm waters that they had to ride in on and some people got sick. I feel like 95% of the show the last several seasons is nothing but bright blue sky backgrounds. My vote is to stop starving them, bring back rice and beans, so they can actually think and make some strategic moves, but change locations and put them somewhere where it rains more than MAYBE 1 time in 26 days. At least there was some wind yesterday.

I liked getting to see what they looked like in their normal every day life, lol, but most of all I hate that they aren't given a chance now to watch it as we saw it. It made for such juicier discussions.

There have been some amazing AU seasons already, but this has firmly taken its place somewhere at the top. I read a stat yesterday that there are no two people left that have voted the same on every vote this season. It’s the most fluid season there has ever been. It’s incredible.

I really, really need to check out Australian Survivor. I'm so over the US season already. There's no one that I'm rooting for. I don't even have anyone I love to hate. It's that boring.
I'm also sick of the 3 tribes setup. They need to go back to two so those not as physically strong have a chance to make the merge. Watching one tribe get picked off is not entertaining in the slightest.

I'm also sick of the 3 tribes setup. They need to go back to two so those not as physically strong have a chance to make the merge. Watching one tribe get picked off is not entertaining in the slightest. You really do. If/when you do, one random thing to note - you’ll notice on IMDb there are 9 seasons, but depending on where you watch, you might see that there are actually 11 seasons. Most people don’t include the 1st two seasons, only the seasons run on Network 10. “Season 1” had a different host and it was on a different network. It happened in 2002. I watched 1 episode I think, and then I noticed the discrepancy in the season numbers and looked into things. That’s when I realized it was old, different and literally no one includes it in Australia survivor history. I’m not really sure why lol. “Season 2” is a celebrity season. I also didn’t watch that because A) I didn’t know any of the celebrities and B) I again realized it wasn’t included in the fandom history. So “season 3”, that happened in 2016, is referred to as “season 1” on IMDb. But eventually, for the most part, like US Survivor used to be, each season is referred to by its theme and not by its number anyway (Champions vs Contenders, Brain vs Brawn, etc). The first REAL season (Network 10) is still 3 tribes, but it’s at least 8 to a tribe… but after that they thankfully drop to 2 tribes and it has stayed that way ever since. 24 contestants. I think the best part is finding new players to love and hate. They are so many fantastic players. I really hope you give it a go - you’ll be so glad you did!

I'll pipe up to say that I still really enjoy US Survivor.
I like the larger tribes on AU. It gives people a place to be sneaky. Also, with small tribes you only have to convince 1-2 people of your plan. But with 12 people on a tribe, you have to get 7 brand new people who don't know each other to all move in the same direction. That's fun to watch. It also sucks when 1 person just doesn't jive with a team of 6, but would be fine in a different group. I also like the fact that everyone gets rice and beans. Starving people are not entertaining.
There is a lot more skin in AU Survivor. It caught me off guard on the first challenge when suddenly everyone went from crocs and full coverage to back country shoes and barely covering the essentials. Lots of booty. The episodes are a lot slower too. I wouldn't mind cutting 10-15 minutes of the AU Survivor episodes.
But otherwise I like the two shows pretty equally. I'd don't love it when US gets too crazy with the idols/advantages, but I enjoy a little creativity (it hasn't gotten too crazy yet this season IMO).

I tried watching AU on 10Play (the network that airs it) with a VPN, but it kept lagging and stalling out. I tried Videobrother, but got nothing but porn. I tried Castaways Down Under on YouTube, but 9 episodes of the latest season showed as unavailable. So I tried switching to a Canadian VPN and was able to get all of them.

I agree casting has gotten annoying and it's because it's all recruited now. It used to just be people who applied and now they have said that maybe 1 person per season is an actual applicant and the rest were all scouted. Either on social media, or someone that casting knew about through family and friends and had some sort of compelling story (ex addict, grew up in a cult, parents disowned, silver spoon harvard, etc etc). I don't know how on Earth they chose Jess because she was the most boring person ever. Liz and Jelinsky both are the worst/ so obnoxious. Kenzie was trying to actually play the game and be like hey we can get together and take out the strong side and I could not believe when Jess and the other guy were so dumb about it and just said doy why? and then told Q about it. Like COME ON.

damn I always chose a person at random in the first 10 min to root for and I had chosen Randen. Sucks to see him go on medical pull I always feel so badly for med evacs. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, that’s another thing I like about Australian Survivor. They are allowed to leave the game for up to 24 hours for medical reasons, before a decision is made. There have been people permanently removed after that, but there have been several people allowed back into the game after those 24 hours have shown that medical evaluated them and gave them the go ahead to stay and continue on. He would have been able to have the MRI taken the next morning, which would have shown nothing seriously wrong, and he could have stayed and played, for who knows how long. At the same time, it is probably harder to want to allow a 24 hour leave in such a short season of only 26 days…..but I feel like that’s just another con to a short season, and the rule should still exist for these poor players who are forced to leave when a slightly long evaluation would produce clearer results on their condition. My heart breaks for those people.

My heart breaks for those people. Same, and they actually talked about this quite a bit on the RHAP Survivor podcasts this week, also drawing the comparison to Australia. I think the prevailing theory was American insurance. If it helps you feel better about this specific circumstance though, Randen said in his exit interview that his injury turned out to be on the more complex end and he would have needed to leave the game in order to heal regardless.
