FWIW, most countries (most US-cities included) don’t require car seats in taxis.

If the 6YO is big enough for a booster you could bring two inflatable boosters?

That is what I thought about taxis but I wasn’t sure how ride share fits into that, though I doubt we will deal with another app during the trip. I think DD (8) is right at 53” which what I’ve seen doesn’t require by law anyway. And maybe I’ll get the inflatable type for DS (just under 48”) in case. But first I’ll see if the transfers offer one.

I’m usually big on car seat/booster, but I’ve released some of it this year with parent friends helping shuttle to practices, etc. I think I’m not going to worry about my oldest because of her size overall. I’m not worried about actually getting ticketed by police.

I took DS to New Zealand at 7, and he did fine. He did end up stretching his feet up into a strangers lap when asleep which I was slightly horrified about but it was a dad also traveling with kids and he was super nice about it.
We couldn’t get seats together and banked on offering our second aisle seat to someone in the middle but happened to be next to another family who did the same thing.
I did buy the tray table foot hammock for our flights to Italy this summer and loved it for myself and DS both. You could give it a try?

Here in Paris you can select Uber’s to come with car seats but they are more like a booster seat. And they are definitely not required.

I just bought a fold up type booster seat to bring for DS (6) and will release the rest of my concern for the few taxi rides we will take, especially if they aren’t required by law for taxis. I’ve got plenty of other things to focus my anxiety over ahead of this trip in 2 weeks! Eeeep!

ldubhawksfan it sounds like you have it figured out, but i have to mention the ride safer travel vests just in case that's a better solution for you! expensive yes, but a dream for travel or friends helping with pick ups/drop offs.
