Thank you! The only downside of her coloring is that she is hard to photograph, especially if she's not perfectly still. She always comes out blurry and/or super dark

They are just straight upmadmitting it now. They have no interest in working to solve any problems because it might give Biden something to campaign on. And they don't want to fix the border, thry want to demagogue it. :screams: www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8gtJcu8/

We all knew they were afraid of the effing ARs and that’s why they didn’t bust in immediately. To know at least 3 people could have been saved is heart wrenching. To all the people that glorify those guns and LE, this flies in the face of it all. We have such a problem in this country.

In close to my home news Wsu student workers including grad students etc barely avoided a strike yesterday. Student workers unionized with uaw/case. They got no movement with admin on contract for a year until they did a sit in at univ presidents offices in dec. and flooded inbox with requests for meetings. There was then some movement But there were sticking points. Like paying large univ fees basically to work, health care and protections where grad students teaching classes could have some say in student discipline and harassment issues in class.
So they had voted to strike starting early spring semester if admin didn't move more in negotiations. Admin put them off and put them off. At midnight tuesday admin agreed to an emergency mtg. weds morning workers that were gearing up to face the cold morning on picket line [edit they actually were walking line gor 3 hrs] were told there was an agreement. They have a week to vote on it.
Student workers including grad students had not received any raise since 2010. Similar for any benefits.
Admin kept saying but this is a part time job, you only work 20 hours. That didn't help their case since in most instances were not allowed to work any other job. And where grad students showed admin hour trackers showing they often worked way more than 20 hours-- upwards of 80+ hours regularly occured. So there's supposed to be an added rule in contract for protections against that kind of thing.
The Temps have been pretty cold so nobody wanted to walk picket line. But for too many grad students the union pay of $500/wk would have been an amazing raise. Now low pay bracket moves up to about that.

AmyG saying PhD work is part time is a joke MH is in a unique position with his PhD because he's being paid by his normal job and technically not supposed to be doing the Research Assistant stuff, but of course is still doing the RA stuff because it's expected by the professors. He's regularly at the lab 12-14 hrs/day (so are most if the other students) and they're constantly being told by one of the heads of the dept they're "not doing enough"

Yeah, my PhD was basically 40 hours a week, and then fit in your classes, and once you are done with your classes and pass your quals, all of that non research time gets switched over. Oof. Crap pay and toll on mental health. PhD is more stamina and sheer will than anything. I couldn't wait to leave academia!

Triage was a mess too...dead victims were sent in ambulances to hospital, victims with gunshot wounds were put on buses with no medical attention, and a teacher put on a walkway where they eventually died. Made my stomach turn

And our department was one of the best paid of any on campus.
