(Gifted WaPo article in the tweet below) I’m so angry about this. It’s absurd and wrong. Charging teachers with felonies? Nazi much? And convicted felons can’t vote, correct? Another article I read listed titles such as “Sneezy the Snowman” and “Dragons Love Tacos” as being removed from classroom libraries. Have they read those books….because they are literally about a snowman who sneezes and dragons that eat tacos. Wtf.

I think that at the moment, teachers are being told to remove everything pending review. Not that those books are problematic, but unless it's been cleared, they don't know and could face charges. So now there are no books in classrooms because the vetting process has not occurred.

And just a way to further villify educators and hurt public education.

Meanwhile he's pitching fits about the NMS mistake which isn't exactly the end of the world Right? The NMS stuff was clearly a mistake that originated in a systematic problem in how students are notified of their status after taking the PSAT. It affected a handful of students and would have played a minimal role in college acceptances. Whereas this is going to have huge repercussions on so many kids in VA. School districts are going to end up firing teachers and closing schools down to make the new budget numbers work. Fuck everyone who voted for that red-vested poophead.

ETA I mean, I guess I do on certain political levels, but not in a don't you actually give a shit about the children in your state way.

Gosh. What a coincidence that this accident happened under a governor who has been so vocal about hating public schools.

Butt-head resubmits amendment for the pledge. Rep Cicilline asks for an amendment to be added. BH is worried about possible dems being excluded. LOL

I don't understand why they aren't trying to rectify the problem instead of just being like oopsie. They need to do something, but I think they have to go back through the state budget process to allocate more money from a different source, since the remaining 1% grocery tax money is already allocated to localities. They basically double-allocated that money to the schools by promising both to give it to localities for education and rolling it into the state aid funding, where it shouldn’t have been. I don’t know how quickly that can happen, but they need to get their asses into gear yesterday.

Because when class sizes get huge and staffing problems get worse they can convince people that vouchers are the answer

How are our Texas people faring? I'm reading hundreds of thousands are (once again) without power due to ice storms. We are good here, but I know several people who haven’t had power all day. Lots of trees and branches down in my neighborhood. They just cancelled school again tomorrow, for the 3rd day this week. 😭
