We went from “low” to “high” in a matter of a week. It isn’t just an area of the court either, it is almost the whole thing. Partly suspected it as I found the waste water numbers for the state and the curve was beginning to trend up. The testing is so incredibly low in relation, especially now that the free testing sites and at home tests are gone. I’m so very uncomfortable being around groups, especially since last year around this time is when the vid hit our house. And took nearly the whole month to get rid of it. The boys all chose to wear masks ToT, even the big who went with friends. This is so tricky because we HAVE great vaccines and treatments but uptake is abysmal. So the authorities want us to feel secure that there is all this transmission mitigation going on. I mean nothing will stop it from spreading. It's going to keep spreading. And I feel good that the vaccines and treatments will keep most oeople from really dire illness. I just wish we could have gotten a lot more people inoculated before the government went, "We have exhausted all avenues for convincing people to get their jabs!"

It's so interesting because we had such high uptake here, but now only people over 65 are being offered the new booster.

Here it is just shouting “common sense” as the directive since day 1. Which is an absolutely absurd “measurement” or literally everything.

I'm 6 hours out from my booster and my arm is barely even sore. Way less than my flu shot. I'll take something later if I end up needing something.

DS2 is finally feeling better. I am wondering if he had RSV and I should have pushed harder for the urgent care to test for it. They brushed it off as not necessary to test for if kids are over 2 because their risk of severe illness is low. The symptoms seem to match though
I hope everyone else that's ill recovers quickly. I hope it's not going to be a long a sick winter

I hope it's not going to be a long a sick winter I haven’t kept up on this thread, but it’s standard to stop testing for RSV over age 2 unless a person has complex medical history. It’s nice to have an answer as to what is wrong, but it doesn’t change the course of treatment and just costs money to run the test and bogs down the lab. If they are being admitted to the hospital with a respiratory problem and the COVID/flu tests are negative, they often run a whole viral panel which checks for many respiratory viruses. I guess the benefit to knowing if it’s RSV is you will be prepared for a more lengthy illness. I hope your buddy is better and has a break from the relentless bugs going around.

My arm is just mildly sore today and I never ended up taking anything last night. Yay for no side effects this go around!

They were using rapids and flu/rsv used the same test/swab but they only checked flu. Post-covid it feels like we should have better testing for everything, ya know? I was a little surprised at how 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️ they were about it, but around me it feels like nobody cares about mitigating illness He was sick about 2 weeks. The NP we saw on day 5 thought it was croup so he got a steroid injection after he wouldn't keep down the liquid, but he was still sick for another week after that. Maybe it was both, another mystery virus, I don't know.

I feel like covid has hit here like a bullet train. My sister is in restaurants and they just cancelled all events until next week, and closing the dining room because most of the kitchen staff is out with COVID. This sucks for all in the restaurant as they need their pay. It's flashing us back to 2020, but without any safety nets left to catch anyone financially struggling with a shut down. My brother who got out of food service, is not part of that circle, but now he too has covid. I just do not get the complete lack of caring about spreading disease I hope everyone is okay

My pediatrician also told me that they almost never test for RSV if you’re older than 2. It’s not like you do anything different for it than your standard respiratory virus. I do wonder if that’s changing now that they’re seeing bigger kids who have been protected the past few seasons really get walloped. Urgent care didn't test us for RSV, but my ped had us come in specifically to test for it since it was so bad in our area. She needed steroids and then antibiotics for a secondary infection. They have a rapid test in house and always test all 3 it seems. I personally think it's helpful so we can know what's being spread. Once we knew it was rsv and not just a cough in our house, we alerted daycare and were hopefully reduced more spread. Our ped also proactively gave us advise for days 4-5 and made sure we had proper inhalers/meds in case we were in an emergent situation overnight. I'm so glad there is hope for a vaccine, rsv is not a joke.

DS has had high fevers for the last 3 days. I got an appt today and the dr thought it was flu. She wasn’t going to test, but I figured it would be good to tell PS since there has been a lot of kids out. Holy hell that was way deeper than even OG 2020 brain tickles! Poor guy is not going to trust me again. It was negative. She guessed maybe RSV, though he has no cough. Either way, it’s all fluids and manage with meds. I was hoping he was on the mend, but he’s back up to 102 this afternoon. ::sigh::

Our pediatrician does a multi use test so that tests for like 19 different viruses at once including rsv/flu/influenza. They test regardless of age. I know last year when DS2 had rsv he wasn’t allowed to return to daycare for a week because of the contagiousness of it.
And I’m sitting here hoping we don’t repeat last year (literally same week) that he doesn’t get it as daycare (he’s only there for after care) just got confirmed cases today.

DD2 has pneumonia. Or getting over it. She is back to pre k tomorrow and has been on antibiotics for about 48 hours. I suspect it was RSV that caused pneumonia. She was negative for flu, strep and Covid. She was running 103-105 fevers for days and then we went back for a recheck the pediatrician heard it in her lungs. 😩

I feel guilty sending her to school tomorrow (we are off all week next week and she has been out of school since Monday sick) but we have zero help to watch her and she is back to herself. Last Friday she came home with a 103 and we took her to urgent care on Sunday where negative for everything. Her fever still didn’t break so Wednesday morning we took her back to the doctor where they heard pneumonia in her lungs. And an ear infection. 😳

Although her death certificate won’t show it, my aunt passed away from complications due to Covid this week (she was a transplant recipient, Covid last winter kicked her immune system into overdrive leading to rejection of the transplant, by the time the doctors figured it out she was too sick and too old to be put back on the list).

trueblue I’m so sorry for your loss. My husband has a transplanted kidney and that’s really scary that COVID led to her body rejecting her transplant.
