I’m catching up here addymac but ugh so much stress for you and your little one. I’m glad surgery went well and I hope that he can get discharged asap. Take care of yourself, too. ❤️

H just told me he started therapy last week and I’m over the moon. Doing a happy dance 💃🏼 Oh yay! When DH started therapy I was so relieved. I hate how therapy takes forever for results to be seen 😅 but I’m glad there’s progress of it starting!

So heavy topic, but I think I'm getting a hysterectomy. I know a few here have also had one so looking for any guidance.
I have a tumor on one ovary that is the primary reason. So I will not be able to keep my ovaries. Said tumor will have to be biopsied when it comes out, but my doctor seems pretty optimistic. I also have a fibroid and my other ovary is chock full of cysts. My tubes were removed 7 years ago after I had DD3. Given that every part has an issue- I want it all gone vs just my ovary.
My kids are old enough that they don't need to be carried. One of my girls can drive so that helps with errands. I work at home with a desk job. I remember my mother's recovery being very long, but I'm assuming things are much different than 25 years ago.
What should I be asking/buying/planning, etc?

leahcar I kept my ovaries, but had my uterus/tubes/cervix removed. I had a robotic/lap with 3 small incisions- 1 in my belly button, and then two (very small) on either side. I was given a TAP block at the beginning of my procedure which really helped with pain management. I couldn’t believe that I was up and walking before I left the hospital. Waking up in the hospital was rough, but I was released after several hours and did not need anything stronger than the prescription Advil and Tylenol at home- I was given a very specific schedule to take them on, and told to take them together. Day 4/5 after the tap block wore off were the hardest, but if I stayed off my feet and rested with an ice pack I was ok. The post surgery gas pains suck, but they weren’t the worst and walking helps- start small at first. I took 3 weeks off of work, which was really needed (I was working from home exclusively at that point). By the time I started working from home after, I really had to build stamina to sit up right in a chair. Plan to be easily exhausted for a couple of months. Also, I did not expect this, but I was really sleepless for those first couple of weeks, which is not unusual I’ve been told. I had no bleeding after I left the hospital. I bought a body pillow for support while sleeping, a super comfy bathrobe, and a little pillow off Amazon that has a pocket for an ice pack that works great in the car- to avoid putting pressure on your stomach. Like this, though I never threaded the seat belt through. www.amazon.com/BNRendles-Hysterectomy-Abdominal-Protectors-C-Section/dp/B097ZD57YG/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?keywords=hysterectomy+pillow&qid=1665509844&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI2LjEwIiwicXNhIjoiNS44NiIsInFzcCI6IjUuMzkifQ%3D%3D&sr=8-8Also consider lots of stool softener. The prescription pain killers can be constipating and you do not want to be straining. There are a couple of FB groups I’m in that have been generally helpful, that didn’t join until after my surgery- which was maybe for the best (just a lot lf emotion). But no regrets. I feel so much better and don’t miss my uterus one bit. Healing is a process, but it was generally very smooth- just followed my surgeon’s instructions. Happy to answer any other questions you have. And yes, there are a couple of others here that were a big help when I had mine 11 months ago! Also sending you lots of love! ❤️❤️

leahcar, I don't have any advice other than the generic surgery advice to keep ahead of the pain. Sending you good vibes for surgery and a quick recovery.

Thanks byjove! Love that pillow idea for the car. It was great for snuggling with an ice pack in bed too. I couldn’t tolerate heat, though I know some prefer the heating pad.

I'm sure there's more to this story but I just got a letter from our insurance company that they are no longer covering epinephrine autoinjectors after January 1. Not the Epipen brand, not a certain type. It says they will no longer cover epinephrine auto injectors. NEAT

dc2london, when epipens went out the wazoo in $$, our (then) insurance company offered an alternative brand for no copay. Hopefully there's more to the story or that's really messed up.

Yeah they never covered Epipens, but we were always fine with the generic. This just says, "Epinephrine Autoinjectors" And then it's like, "Talk to your doctor to find a covered alternative!" Um, no?

Dh and I finally sat down this evening, prior to our vacation next week, to write out our will. I know we're seriously behind on doing that, but I couldn't bear doing it until now since it'll be our first real trip without our kids. So many tears. I wish I could approach it as purely transactional.
And then they wanted to watch UP.
I am a puddle of emotion.

So dumb. yeah your doctor has NO idea which manufacturer is covered by your insurance. I hate insurance companies sometimes. Anyway I know you’re probably on top of it but I’ve heard Avi-Q has good coupon programs, or at least they did. (I’m not sure, like you we get the generics)

(I’m not sure, like you we get the generics) The really irritating thing is that we get almost none of our prescription meds through our insurance because it's much more affordable to use GoodRx-- Which is fine, but it's just another way for the insurance companies to weasel out of paying for anything because then none of our Rx expenditures count toward our deductible. Lolsob

addymac any updates on your little guy? I hope he’s doing well, I’ve been think of you. You’re so sweet. It’s been a long week. And apparently it’s only Wednesday! So he came out of surgery okay and off oxygen but he kept having a lot of green output from the tube they had going to his stomach. They tried to remove it Sunday night but he kept throwing up so didn’t remove it until Tuesday. Started feeds last night. He’s tolerating feeds okay so far, no real spit ups but he’s just not eating a lot like he was before. And on Monday they found that he has an infection around the surgical incision so he was put on antibiotics for 7 days. Hoping he can come home this weekend but I’m trying to not get my hopes up. Today was better because he started eating but I have been a big freakin mess. And DH is breaking down too. And I feel for him bc he’s been holding it together for me.

addymac I’m sorry it’s been such a tough road. I’m sure you are really carrying a lot of the mental load simply because you understand all the medical stuff going on. I hope you are getting some rest. 🤞 he continues to improve and increase his feeds.
