Only the best lawyers. Please, tell us more about all the guests you’ve witnessed him entertain in this space. What about the storage room, who went in there. Just tell ol’ boy Han.ity about everyone who visited. Leave nothing out.

These people need to learn to crime better. On the other hand, I deeply enjoy how bad at it they are. It makes it so much sweeter that all their stupid little epithets and pithy phrases are coming back to bite them on their collective arse. "Snowflake" "Lock (___) up." The hilarity of their ineptitude is only ruined by the seriousness of their crimes.

I can’t remember what thread we were discussing lunch programs and how the funding ended for free breakfast and lunch. Apparently our district decided last minute to continue it or something happened becAuse we got a “lol just kidding we ARE doing free breakfast and lunch for all!” Yahoo! Jealous! I just loaded my kids account with money and got really sad inside. I will never understand how we successfully fed kids for 2 years during a pandemic and somehow the world kept turning… but nah let’s go back to letting kids experience food insecurity

Our mayor sends out a monthly email on the 1st of the month and in it today he shared the city has had 47 monkeypox cases. First I'm hearing about that!

Jealous! I just loaded my kids account with money and got really sad inside. I will never understand how we successfully fed kids for 2 years during a pandemic and somehow the world kept turning… but nah let’s go back to letting kids experience food insecurity In addition to no more free lunch, our district’s lunch prices went up this year. I understand it’s due to inflation and all food costs have increased, but it’s not great. I’ve been unpleasantly surprised at how much money I’ve already had to put in my kids’ lunch accounts.

Apparently our district decided last minute to continue it or something happened becAuse we got a “lol just kidding we ARE doing free breakfast and lunch for all!” Yahoo! No clue where you live, but if your % of free/reduced lunch population is over a certain threshold (I can't remember if it's 60% or 70%?) then the whole school just gets free lunch. We randomly toe that line in the district I work at and have gotten it before and then taken away. Or maybe your district is just cool and found a way to make it work. I reallllly wish they could get that bill passed again. Small clarification, it's not automatic. Your district has to apply for and receive a four year waiver called Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). The good news is the threshold is actually only 40% FRL, the bad news is most districts won't even look at it until you're closer to 60% because they have to cover the gap in cost between those two percentages. We got a new nutrition director last year and while she applied for it for just a handful of our highest need schools, the federal government crunched our numbers and decided we could get it at our district fully and clean so we aren't paying the overages. All that to say, if you know your district or school is lower income, tell your district/school board you want CEP!

I don't know how I feel about this - could lead to some shenanigans but it would cut down on the number of tweets you see floating in your timeline that have actually been deleted because of a typo.

Say what Our county has had 71 cases. 😞 From what I’ve read, they’ve been able to contact trace and quarantine cases and vaccinate close contacts to help prevent spread in the county. Since it spreads primarily through prolonged close contact, it’s easier to contact trace and control. hawkward knows a lot more about what’s happening in VA.

My concern is someone will say some fucked up shit, get ratioed to the hilt, then edit it to say something nicer. Or vice versa.

The other thing is someone else could potentially quote a tweet or retweet something and endorse it and then the original poster could change it to say something heinous. If they could do it like it works here that once something is retweeted/quote tweeted, that version of the OP tweet in the quote/retweet doesn't change, then I would be more on board.

Super happy to see this even if it's for a short term. Hopefully it bodes well for November when she's on the ballot against Palin again for a full two-year term.

Since it spreads primarily through prolonged close contact, it’s easier to contact trace and control. hawkward knows a lot more about what’s happening in VA. Hey! I actually just finished up my VDPH monkeypox training last week. I’m feeling very zen about it. I’m not telling anyone else how to feel, but as the mom of two immunodeficient kids, me being zen about a disease is… not a normal state. First, as of the date my training was created (I believe two weeks ago) the fatality rate was 12 out of approx 30,000 cases. Most people have uncomfortable but manageable symptoms. Second, the R-naught for household spread is low. I can’t remember the exact value right now, but I believe it was in the neighborhood of 1.4 for direct caregivers. The reason right now that it’s being spread primarily in the community of men who have sex with other men is because you need some pretty heavy contact to spread it- 4 hours+ of shared air or direct lesion contact. It can also spread through saliva approximately 24 hours before symptoms start. We have some evidence that it can be transmitted in an STD-like fashion, causing perianal swelling and pain without other outward symptoms. Third, the vaccine is (like every vaccine) not fool proof, BUT it’s good. It can also be given during symptoms to reduce duration. And we know that IM doses can be divided and given in a one-fifth subQ dose. That’s very good news because although supply is limited, we can stretch it out in a way that we could not do with the covid vaccines. If you’re in a high risk population in an area of community spread, vaccination would be a really good idea. Otherwise, I wouldn’t recommend rushing out to get it done. Truly, to most of the population, the *current* highest risk/concern of monkeypox is racism and homophobia.

Thanks hawkward! That is very reassuring. Especially the R0 for direct caregivers - I didn’t realize that it was quite so low. ❤️

The main takeaway was that if you’re still taking covid precautions, you’re doing more than enough for monkeypox. And if anyone has any more specific questions, I’m happy to answer them to the best of my ability or direct you toward a better resource.

hawkward I appreciate the insight. I will admit, the recent stories about the spread in schools is making me nervous mostly because I feel like it is unclear on whether my kids would qualify for the vaccine given their eczema. I've read that one smallpox vaccine (live virus) is a no go, but there may be a different one? I feel like the information about that is really confusing.

byjove a monthly email has me just as shook as the large initial case count. Meanwhile our mayor is wanting to be able to work outside of the metro. She is mad because “no one contacted her” but she isn’t known for being available or responding to constituents. She wasn’t even available when we had a chemical plant on fire. She was gone 39 days of the first 6 months and is now out of the country for 3-4 weeks. She recently lost her husband and remarried to someone who lives hours away.

Honest question - where are you seeing school spread stories?. I've seen stories about one-off juvenile cases for school-aged children but nothing about multiple cases in a school.

I'm just recalling some posts here where spread has been in a couple childcare settings, I can't recall the exact state or amount of children but I believe it was more than one child in the school. I definitely realize that it isn't at the level of other viruses within schools by any means at this time. I just have so little faith in things actually proceeding well in the future given how badly public health response has been for COVID.
