I don't think people are going to be happy with this I think my outstanding student debt will be wiped out by this (which will be lovely and move some money back into our spending budget), but I’m REALLY not the demographic that needs relief. I was hoping for more relief for low income borrowers and borrowers with loans that have predatory interest rates.

I don't think people are going to be happy with this I really wish they'd do something about the ridiculous interest rate. If that doesn't change, this is always going to be an issue. Students loans need to be interest free. The economic value educated people being to our society should be the interest.

I didn't see the 5% mentioned earlier, but I might have missed it.

I agree about the interest rates. They're such a huge part of the problem.

I agree about the interest rates. They're such a huge part of the problem. And by not fixing the interest rates, we'll find ourselves right back in this mess. We need solutions that will also help current and future students.

The student loan plan is laughably pathetic. People will get 10k forgiven and then whenever the loans are reinstated, 10k in interest will accrue shortly. And I understand there are many people where 10k is a significant balance on their loans, but there is also a huge swath of people (myself included) where 10k doesn't even make a hint of a dent. It feels like lip service and really nothing at all. This is exactly what I said this morning. GMA was all this means people will have their debt cut in half or will be debt free.................................................. OR Not I saw that the NAACP is telling him it isn't enough and that once again WOC will not benefit because they hold the most student loan debt and that Biden should be doing more for the POC who came out and helped to vote him in.

So is this 10k per person? I have those super old subsidized loans. I think my husband and I both have a little over 10k.
We are under the 250k for a family but he's over the individual amount

I understand the importance people place on loan forgiveness and why but it also doesn't fix anything systemically moving forward.

Would it have been more beneficial to do a a percentage relief? Like everyone is getting 25% or 50% of their loans forgiven? They're federal loans, they know exactly how much everyone owes. Proficient coders could make this fairly easy to push out.

This is only a guess, but I'd guess if you file jointly then each individual would be eligible or not based on the household amount. Isn't that how they usually determine things?

I am just going to go ahead and assume since none of my loans were eligible for the payment pause that they aren’t eligible for forgiveness.
Yes I am super salty about it because I made certain decisions regarding consolidation and repayment programs that allowed me to eat and have a roof over my head which now appear to have been the wrong ones.

Can you read that? (Not sure if pic quality) So, several girls got calls home for shorts this week in elementary school, but were never asked to check their length according to this, and they were in fact longer than required. Also, it’s unclear if leggings are allowed, which is obviously a mainstay of younger kids. ETA no doubt we can thank Youngkin for all of this. This is all ridiculous. Who defines what is "offensive"? Because for me a TFG shirt would be offensive? I mean I could pick this apart ad nauseam but I'm sure we're all on the same page. Really tho, fuck calling out elementary aged kids like that. THEY'RE BABIES.

This is what I’m expecting. We’re in the same boat where H makes a bit over the individual cap, but since I SAH, we’re way below the household income. I had a Pell grant in college, but have less than $10,000 outstanding, so it really doesn’t matter for us.

Man idk what it is but DH is against student loan forgiveness and it’s driving me nuts. This is so unlike him in regardless to every other financial thought, so I’m befuddled and he just is adamant about how it’s bullshit to forgive $10k when “people like us worked our asses off the pay off the loans”. I just am like what? And he’s like people signed off knowing they’d have to pay when they finished so blah blah blah. I just said my piece and walked away bc I don’t think we will ever agree.
He does think they should cancel the interest rates bc remove the interest balance. So he’s not totally a dick about it all.

So VA, friends, we are three days in and the new VA school dress code is 1-sexist, but 2- already causing major drama in our school. Anyone else hearing of problems? I'm not in VA but I am ready to burn things down regarding the sexist dress code in our district in Texas. Yours is worse though. Our big thing is the way it's written boys can wear shorts but girls basically cannot unless they want to wear bermuda shorts (which they do not and don't really exist anyways).

Fine, do the 10k Joe, but without addressing the interest, it will not help the problem.

Have already paid back over $160,000 and i still owe over $200k. Like what? I can't help that i don't make enough money to pay back more!! I've tried!

I may be accused of being perpetually unsatisfied because I'm too far left for these solutions but seriously, student loan forgiveness would help ALL voters, not just democrats.
It's nice to know my interest won't continue to accrue but that doesn't help the 70k in interest I have accrued in the last 9 years.
Also wtf the 5% cap is only on undergrad loans? That is kind of bullshit. I mean, I get that my law degree put me in a position to earn a good salary but plenty of people get masters and PhDs in careers that don't have the same earning potential. Post undergrad degrees aren't worthy of consideration? Especially now when so many professions are starting to require more and more schooling (which is also insane IMO).
Anyway. Maybe I should stop bitching because theoretically my loans will all be forgiven in about 4 years.

I'll be on this bench with you I'm lucky in that a lot of my grad school has been paid for but we did some loans to pay the fee, books etc. because even after my reimbursement from work it was still close to 2,000 a semester, BUT any job in this place that makes actual money I need a Masters or higher so to me it felt necessary.

This my DD1’s 5th year at the school so it felt like we had a good handle on that. We are so confused.
