Do any of your kids still play with barbies? M does almost every day. E does if I'm in her playroom with her. We gave her the ultimatum this weekend, Barbie Dreamhouse or Kitchen, one had to go. She kept the Barbies, which I was secretly happy about because I played with Barbies all the time as a kid.

Re: barbies I was having a conversation with one of the moms at pick up yesterday (somebody I don't know very well) and she told me that her Barbie dream house for her four year old (turning five in January) was delivered to the front porch without any kind of outer box so her daughter saw what it was. Trying to be quick on her feet, the mom said, "Oh, that must be for the neighbor down the road," to which the little girl replied "No way is that for her, she's in second grade. She's way too old for that." And I was taken aback for a minute because, aside from crafts and books, those are really the only toys Josie wants for Christmas and really the only one she plays with. I'm glad to hear that it's still a popular toy. I didn't think it was too young. What do four year olds know anyway 🤣

I think Barbies have staying power for a few more year, I feel like 8 year olds and up are into American dolls as well. I am thinking of taking N to the American doll store for fun with my best friend from high school and her daughter as a post vaxx outing in the new year (not braving that store/mall during the holidays)

I know times are different, but I played with my Barbies until probably fifth grade. And I was so delighted when Josie expressed an interest in them just last year because I thought that if she hadn't done it earlier she probably wouldn't but I'd love to watch her play because she's so creative with them.

I may have pushed Evie into keeping the dream house. I always wanted one, but my parents could never afford it, so I was so excited to buy her one. She doesn't seem as interested in them as I was, but I still hold out hope. And yes, I played with mine all through elementary school, and kept all my Barbies for Evie, which she now tells me they're ugly. Because 80s Barbies wear 80s makeup.

I did too! Same with American girl dolls. I also played with my plastic doll house longer than most too, I just loved all that stuff!

I’m at work today and it feels criminal to be this happy to be at a place of work. Lol. I feel like it’s my first day all over again because I haven’t been here in over a month. There is 3 people out today so that’s the only reason I’m here. We’re not too busy. My boss feels bad about not being able to work me as much, but it’s not anything she can control really. Just hoping the numbers bounce back so we can get our patient volume up.
Karate later. That’s all I got.

I feel Barbies have some staying power right… you can do different thing with then once you’re older, fashion shows, make you own clothes etc. That said, we do not have Barbies in our household at the moment. My mom saved my old one and dd plays with them when she’s at my parents.

So I finished some loose ends today for the job I’m taking a leave of absence from. Had a killer headache after and hour, so I think I made the right decision.
Dh and I wrote Sinterklaas poems to put on the presents, one final present to wrap & then we’re done. Currently sitting on the couch very reluctant to move, but I do want coffee or wine… life is hard people (it’s 8 ‘o clock over here btw, so don’t worry 😉).

With the amount of money I've put into Lols, knock-off American Girl dolls, and horses they better play with them until their 27.
I feel like a lot of kids are still interested in playing with most of their toys through middle school age but it's more pressure that they stop sometimes before they want to.
The scene in Pen15 in which the girls are playing with their Sylvanian Family toys is hysterical. But probably not far off from doll/creative play at that age. My sister's doll house family was the Griswold's and mine was Cousin Eddie's family so our dolls did some very interesting things.

inthekitty I played with Sylvanian families until 11-13. I had a doll house for them that I changed throughout the seasons and decorated accordingly. My sisters were not allowed to touch it.

Grr. Last night we got someone to quickly snap a few photos of us for our Christmas card. We didn't have a lot of time, but I should have looked first. They all suck. They stood too far away and our faces are blurry. We'll probably need to make time for retakes Friday but it's a bit of a PITA because we'll have to get out props again.

oh shit wineallthetime, I'm sorry. When is the last time you were with the kids? Tuesday. So Tuesday afternoon I felt a bit achy but thought it was weather. Got the booster and flu shot, dropped the kids off and started feeling really rough middle of the night. No symptoms for them so I hope it stays that way!

Oh no wineallthetime! I hope you're through the worst of it and the kids don't get it. Any idea where you picked it up from? I hate this guessing game of thinking your safe and not hearing anyone has it, then suddenly getting it. The chances of everyone you've been around being asymptomatic are slim.
