It'll come back! But as someone who lost their sense of smell when I was 5, it's really weird and sometimes sad but it will be okay!!! I really think you'll get it back though. Aww I didn't know that! What caused that to happen? I fell off my bike and hit my head (no helmet). Knocked something loose in there and have never smelled anything again! It's always my interesting fact about myself so all you covid people better not steal my thunder 😂. But seriously, that sucks. I was so young I don't really remember ever smelling anything so it's just normal for me.

kim22 What did the mom say when you told her? Was she surprised? Lol- kids man. So good to hear your oldest is doing well! She started laughing right away so that was a relief. Then she called the kid over (it was a virtual meeting) and I asked him what happened to his uncle and he hid his face so he knew he was caught. TW I do have another child whose father did actually die this summer (it was a homicide) but it is not something we ever discussed in class so unless that child said something to this one that I’m not aware of, I don’t know why he said it.

mamabear how are you guys surviving quarantine? We're okay. Feeling better so now juggling working from home with 2 kids and a baby. And realizing there is a lot of variation in quarantine rules between schools and even doc offices, which is frustrating. I'm actually really sad guys bc I have absolutely no sense of smell and I'm scared it won't come back. I know statistically it should but I keep hearing stories about people who can barely smell months later...all I can think of is smelling my baby and it makes me tear up. Hope it comes back. Mine was only totally gone for like 2 days but now, 3 months later, I still can’t smell poop diapers in my classroom so good thing for my assistants.

I was so young I don't really remember ever smelling anything so it's just normal for me. Wow, I didn’t know that. Does it affect taste too? My neurologist said if you don't have a sense of smell you can usually only taste about 10% but I feel like I taste more? I remember after it happened being at my grandma's and wondering why I couldn't smell her flowers but I don't ever remember thinking that about taste. It was weird because I honestly thought I was just doing it wrong and didn't know how to smell! I guess I mentioned it to my parents but they brushed it off. Finally in 7th grade I brought it up again and my mom took me to the neurologist who thought it was likely a brain tumor, luckily not! I do eat some strange combinations of food though I've been told haha. And things like Skittles or star bursts most of the colors all taste the same to me.

There was a high school shooting here today. Not in my city but close to my parents house. So far a few students died. Makes me sick how common these things are, which obviously I know you all are in the same boat with those feelings. 😔 I saw the headline earlier. Scary to be so close. It makes me so mad that there isn’t even any outrage about guns, but yet people can be outraged about masks in schools, books in school, etc etc.

I’m sorry and hope it comes back sooner rather than later. Did her PCR ever come back positive? Glad to hear the house is relatively well.

On a TKD group I follow the other day someone asked about advice about confidence. He has several years experience with TKD, but got nervous in a recent incident with someone bullying him. What was one of the pieces of advice someone gave him? Start carrying a gun. 🙄🙄🤨 Wtf America? Because of course the answer with someone nervous, lacking self confidence, and untrained is to carry a weapon to flash in someone's face when he feels threatened.

Fingers crossed your sense of smell comes back mamabear. wineallthetime I wonder if you were young enough your brain compensated with your sense of taste and it didn't impact that as much. Interesting.

Mrs Claus gift delivered, after a frantic hunt I found our elf, Snowflake(not where I thought she was), got the advent calendar filled, and then as I was setting up said elf I broke this year's Christmas ornament for Cadence. 😠So I have ordered a new one and Snowflake will just give it to her a different day. 🤦

Our elf doesn’t come until the Christmas tree comes, which isn’t until mid December usually. We have Sinterklaas December 5th, and I need a little bit of a break between holidays.

I forgot to mention it here, but MH called me Monday mid morning to tell me that his coworker’s wife got a call (his son is in the same grade, different class at M’s school) that their son(T) was in speech class when another classmate tells him that he had a gun in his backpack. T walked over to the teacher and told her what he said and they went through all the protocols. At first we thought the whole school had to be drilled out, but later that afternoon we found out it was just T’s class. The kid lied and he didn’t have a gun, but holy moly. WTF. I don’t know if anyone else in that class was alerted or just T’s mom because he was directly involved. I’m just glad it wasn’t true.
We were asking M what he would do in that situation just to make sure he remembers our conversations and M2 is listening and blurts out- HIDE! Lol We’ve never discussed this with M2, but hide is not the worst answer. We did tell him what to do, though, so hopefully it sticks.

I can’t even phantom having to have that conversation with my kids. I’m so sorry. That must be terrifying for you as parents and it soo shouldn’t be that way. Schools are supposed to be a safe place. Period. It’s bad enough that some children will have to endure being bullied or left out… but this 😕.
