Maybe a UO: Split bedroom ranches are the best floor plan. I'm not a fan of two story homes (because I'm lazy and don't want to go up and down stairs). Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk What is a split bedroom?

DH wants a vacuum sealer. He can put it in the basement, next to his wok, the rice cooker, the espresso machine, and the pasta maker.

i know it's super practical with having kids, etc. but i am just not a fan of open floor plans. guessing this is an uo based on hgtv shows I like the look, but it really isn't practical for small kids. My house does NOT have an open floor plan, and we want to make it more open eventually. But now after having kids I appreciate that we only have one baby gate in the whole house to keep them contained in the living room. We don't have an open floor plan in our 1928 home, and my MIL jokes we live in a gated community. We have the kid and 4 dogs, two of which need to be separated, so practically every doorway in our home has a gate, including at the top and bottom of the staircase.

I think there are too many small appliances now. Who has space for them all? Do we really need a machine for some of these? Looking at you, breakfast sandwich machine. Yes. We subscribe to Alton Brown's unitasker idea. If it can only do one thing, I don't have room for it in my kitchen. I mean, the avocado scooper thing? Use a spoon. I would usually agree with this but there are some exceptions. For example, I use my zester and peeler a lot (two separate items). I did buy that damn grape slicer because of some peer pressure here. I have used it maybe three times. It squishes the grapes if they aren't perfectly crisp. And does not save time. lol.

Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk I really like that layout too. It's not what I have but if I ever buy another house, I would look hard for one. I had a split ranch before and the kids bedrooms were on the opposite side of the house and it was heaven. Now we have a regular ranch style and all the bedrooms are together and it's a pain. We plan on finishing our basement and putting our master bedroom down there, but that is many many years down the road.

One home feature I particularly dislike, though, is the vaulted/two story living rooms that open up to the second floor. They're very inefficient for energy consumption and noise travels more than I like. Cosign.

i know it's super practical with having kids, etc. but i am just not a fan of open floor plans. guessing this is an uo based on hgtv shows I'm with you, I have an old house with doors everywhere and I love it. So easy to baby proof, or block off areas when we have visitors. Plus, half our doors are actually french doors, so when we leave them open we have a nice wide door way and good flow, best of both worlds. Save

I know everyone raves about them but I can't stand 360 cups. I have a bunch and with every single one if DD drops, throws, or bangs the cup, the contents go everywhere. Yes - the impact totally pops the seal. My toddler thinks it's hilarious.🙄 We also use the weighted straw cups. But those leak too. I JUST WANT SOME TRULY LEAK PROOF CUPS. WHY IS THAT SO HARD? We love the 360 cups, but also use the Tommy Tippee straw cups, and those have been really good with not leaking. I think we have the 9oz ones.

I love the open floor plan in our house, but i agree it's a pain for baby proofing. There was no containing DS to one room, and to this day, I follow him every where. I would need like 10 super tall, super wide gates, which I don't think even exist.

Honestly we still use the cheap as shit Take and Toss sippy cups. They are mostly leak proof as long as they are upright. We use a Camelbak or Contigo water bottle for on the go.

Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk I guess our house fits this because of the way they did the addition. The addition is master bed + bath + second family room, the other 3 bedrooms are on the other side. But originally it was just the 3 bedrooms 1 bath all clustered together.

I don't think most comedies out lately are funny at all. Example: fist fight. We watched it recently and I never once lold. I might have a different sense of humor but really I just think that I don't find stupid shit funny. Cursing and sex does not automatically equal funny in my book.

They're very inefficient for energy consumption and noise travels more than I like. Our condo was like this. We lost so much money heating and cooling empty space. Not to mention having to climb a 20ft ladder to change light bulbs. No thank you.

Apparently my UO is that I love a wide open floor plan
Having a front sunroom and a back sunroom sounds like the house equivalent of single-purpose appliances!

I also don't like when bedrooms dump directly into common areas (instead of being offset by a hallway) but I doubt that is unpopular. I almost bought a house with that layout and now I'm glad I didn't. I have a lot of floor plan hangups.

My wine bottle opener is pretty much a unitasker, but you're going to have to pry that bad boy out of my cold, dead hands.

I didn't grow up in one, but because my parents bedroom was an addition it was at the back of the house and my bedroom was at the front next to the front door. I pretty much came and went as I pleased. 😬

I could see this with super young kids, but DD was never one to try to leave her room so I guess we got lucky. We have the monitor in her room mostly because it is on the other side of the house. The only time this will be a pain, I anticipate, is when I am BFing at all hours. But we will have a twin day bed in the office at that point and I plan to crash there if needed.

The smaller the house/condo/apt the more I appreciate an open floor plan.
I guess since I always talk smack about my house, I will say that the main area we live in (kitchen and family room) are open floor since the family room was added on. Everything else is original 1940s distinct rooms. Having the combo is nice.
