.@jillwinebanks: You could #impeach Pence first. The problem is #DonaldTrump then has to name his replacement. I think maybe a deal could be struck where he is told if you don't make a replacement then #NancyPelosi does become president. #AMJoy t.co/ahijhCcpnQ

I was on the bench of, "Just hold the vote in the full House to shut them up, Nancy" but I changed my mind over the past few days. This GOP move goalposts like they breathe. Congress is a separate and coequal branch of government and POTUS does NOT get to tell the Speaker of the House how to do her job. If she gives him an inch he will take a light year.

Same bench A formal impeachment inquiry would pass the House. It’s a delay tactic Although It was said this am that if a vote is taken then the president counsel has the right to be in the depos? I don’t know how true that is Also this isn’t criminal proceedings the same rules don’t apply so I don’t know

I checked out from the news for one day to go to the pumpkin patch and binge watch some Sherlock and now I feel like I’m running a marathon trying to catch up on everything that happened on Saturday.

His personal counsel or WH Counsel? I think wh but my dog was whining so I’m not 💯 positive Well highly regarded legal mind Kevin McCarthy seems to think it does. I question anything the Minority Leader says but I would *think* he ran this letter by Minority Counsel before sending it

Also for an administration who is all about breaking political norms I think they need to stop trying to play it to their advantage now

Also for an administration who is all about breaking political norms I think they need to stop trying to play it to their advantage now But Impeachment isn't a legal process it's a political one. The rules are different. The House functions as the prosecutorial role but the evidentiary standards are entirely different. The WH gets to speak their peace during the trial. I mean if they want to say this should operate like a criminal trial, he is basically suggesting here that all the cops have to vote on investigating and the suspect's lawyers get to shout at them about how they conduct their investigation and sit in on witness interviews. That nuts.

That whole reasoning doesn't exist in our criminal justice system and is exactly why grand jury materials are kept 100% confidential (and we know how dedicated the Republicans are to closely guarding 6(e) materials, right Attorney general Barr?)

I can explain the fec rule til I’m blue but it doesn’t get to them

So essentially he ( Barr) wants a conservative Christian version of Sharia law. Great. I know I reference the Handmaid's Tale a lot, but this is very much The Handmaid's Tale.

So essentially he ( Barr) wants a conservative Christian version of Sharia law. Great. I know I reference the Handmaid's Tale a lot, but this is very much The Handmaid's Tale. I think an important distinction is that Sharia Law is not intended to be imposed on anyone who is not Muslim. It's like a Jewish person demanding that the whole world keep kosher. That would be crazy. It's a system internal to the religion, like codified religious dogma and some rules for how to be a good Muslim. If that's all the conservative Christian political creeps like Barr and Pence wanted, a better-documented internal rulebook for how to be the best Christian, then fine! It wouldn't affect most of us! Handmaid's Tale level conservative Christian version is the one where that white straight Christian male vision of how everyone should live their lives IS actually imposed on everyone, forcibly, and codified into secular law. It's fucking way more terrifying.
