So, I tried to wait until 2 to deal with L's lack of words but I started really freaking about it a month ago and called in to EI to get an evaluation. They evaluated him last week and he is on par with everything except expressive speech so he was approved for that. I am waiting for a phone call to get him started. He seems to be doing well other than that. We were dealing with a lot of fits because he couldn't communicate what he wanted but he is getting better about that.
I'm not sure what we will do for his birthday. DS1 turned 5 yesterday and I did nothing for it until Sunday when I got him some presents so I'm not the best planner at times. I am guessing we will have dinner at my ILs with some cake and a few presents. Nothing big.
Not much else going on here. Work has been pretty busy and I've been looking at other jobs a bit but nothing has come to fruition yet.

spacecadet Iām wondering if I should get C evaluated. He has the same issue with throwing tantrums because he canāt express what he wants. Heās got about a dozen words but Iām a bit worried because he doesnāt pronounce them all correctly which is Ds1ās issue too. I know itās not all uncommon for toddlers to say like āDaā for ādogā but it seems like all of his words are kind of like that.

pootsen I live in the camp of evaluate and let them decide. If he needs help, he gets it. If he doesnāt, then there is a record of where he was and if the concern is still there at 2, then they can compare. When DS3 was evaluated at 18mo, lack of sounds and āwordsā mainly just grunting and a lot of H sounds, but he understood SO much. The evaluator decided he was fine and I let it be, kept on doing our thing. The day he turned 2, I called for another eval. His comprehension and expressive speech were so out of alignment, he qualified for help and has blossomed.

I know itās not all uncommon for toddlers to say like āDaā for ādogā but it seems like all of his words are kind of like that. I wondered and worried about it too really. We actually went to our pedi first to do a hearing test and get his opinion on if we should move forward with an eval and he was all for it. His expectation for 2 is 50 words and two word phrases. L didn't really have any words but he can do car noises, animal noises and says choo choo for train. The pedi counted those as words but it seemed like in the eval they weren't counted. I'm not 100% sure on that. He started saying "No" a couple of weeks ago and say "Go" a lot but i'm not sure if he means Go, or sometimes if he is talking about his brother (Grayson) He does seem to be improving with time, but he is still obviously no where near 50 words. The person doing the eval wasn't even sure if he would qualify because he is at age level or advanced for everything else. When the numbers came back it tracked him at a 12 month level though. It doesn't hurt to at least look into it. I don't know about everywhere else but it took about a month to get our evaluation and I am still waiting to get a call back to start services so it isn't a quick process. (I can be a bit impatient about things.)

Definitely get an evaluation if you have concerns. Even if you donāt qualify now doesnāt mean you wonāt in the future. Get the paper trail going now if you have concerns.
DDās speech and developmental interventionist both always tell me that if the receptive language is there then expressive will eventually follow. Also, gross motor development usually precedes speech development so if you have a late walker the speech might come a little later as well. Of course, there are exceptions.
We have really pushed sign language and that has really helped with the frustration. DD has about 15 signs, but only speaks one word. This still ācountsā as expressive language even if theyāre approximations or signs you made up. We watch Baby Signing Time together (thereās a lot on YouTube, but also an app, dvds, etc). It helped us all so much!

Oh yes culinarycanary! We LOVE Signing Time. Our library also carries the DVDs. DS3 had a few signs when they evaluated him. They counted the signs and that is what kept him from qualifying. I immediately stopped teaching him any more, I was pissed. The second person who came out when he was 2, was the best. She was frustrated for me that they counted his signs and a huh sound he would mumble. So we started back up with signs and it was so helpful. Big brothers loved them too and we use them with A now too. DS3ās teachers use it to help him now when he gets stuck or is learning/working on a new sound.

ldubhawksfan the songs are so darn catchy. The Silly Pizza Song absolutely drives me nuts. I sing it for a week if I hear it!

Hi all, I haven't been around much. Work is kicking my ass and I don't have the energy to do much after DD is in bed! I also have a cold now that I'm blaming on my work stress. I was able to work from home this afternoon though which helped. Now DH and DD are just out visiting his dad, but should be home any minute. Apparently she doesn't want to leave! Hopefully dh will do bedtime duty when they get back and I can continue to lay on the couch.

I got up early and went to the gym since my H is off today and could take the kids to daycare. I was surprised at how many people were there! The workout was good but I think I prefer going late at night instead of waking up early lol.
Itās my nieces 4th birthday this weekend so Iāll be making the 4hr drive with the boys this afternoon. Fx they behave!

C was so cute and giggly this morning. I was in the kitchen and he was in the living room and all of a sudden I heard him say āmum-mum!ā (This is what he calls me for āmommaā) and he ran out, gave me a hug around my legs, and then ran back into the living room. So sweet.
I took the morning off work for a couple of appts. I was in and out of my derm appt in like 15 mins so I got a coffee while waiting for my next one. Nice little relaxing morning!

I took DD to the ortho appt today and they said at her age the recovery will be quick but by next week she will feel better. The hard thing will be to make sure she doesnāt re hurt the break. Hopefully she will be out of the sling in a few weeks.

What is everyone up to this weekend? I am working today, but had a good day off yesterday. I got a couple semi important things done, and relaxed a little bit. Today was pretty chill at work, so that was nice. My coworker had a really bad Saturday last week, so I was just hoping for not that, lol.

We're doing nothing and it's awesome. First weekend in over a month we don't have commitments. Finally feels like we're getting back to normal since moving. We really need a couple of weekends in a row of mundane nothingness to make life feel back to basic.

We had my nieces 4th birthday party. It was superhero themed and the kids had a blast.
Currently enjoying some wine with my sister. I wish we lived closer so we could do this more often!

Last night I went to see Hustlers with some friends. This morning we met my parents for breakfast, then my mom came with us to Jojo's first gymnastics class. She loved it and was a surprisingly great student, listened well etc. While she napped I went to visit my friend and her newborn, so that was a nice cuddle time. This afternoon we went downtown so DH could get his haircut by my niece, got a cookie and a car wash and stopped at whole foods. I made dahl for dinner and it was delicious. DD stopped playing in the bath tonight to get out and have a poop, so I'll consider that a win š DH is out tonight so I'm watching Netflix!

Summer was absolute insanity, and then FILās death added another level to that. But now that we have had a couple ānormalā ish weekends (ish because last weekend H was OOT helping MiL, so I had the girls alone), I feel like we are getting into the swing of things. Next month will go back to crazy though because both H and I have work travel. I almost never have work travel though so this is rare. We have one overlapping set of days that MIL is coming to help with and be with the girls.

Aww thatās how I feel about my sister, too. She is 4 hours away which isnāt terrible, but not easy. Especially since we both have young kids. We are planning on yearly sister trips though starting next year, so Iām excited about that!

We had a pretty low-key weekend too. MH went out of town yesterday/last night to hang out with some of his high school friends so the boys and I had dinner with my parents. Today weāre watching football and the Emmys. I made chocolate chip pumpkin bread, salsa, and have chili in the slow cooker. Nice relaxing Sunday!
