Does recall mean the RNP cannot be used even to set down while they are supervised? Or just not for sleeping? I thought it was just for sleeping. I think it’s fine to use with supervision. Just not for sleep. Out of the 32 deaths only 10 were from not being strapped in and the other 22 were from other causes including positional asphyxiation. Positional asphyxiation can happen in 1 min while you are looking right at baby. I'd get rid of it altogether. I loved my rnp. 😠Eames

Yogurt, thank you, I saw that as well and we are sending the pieces back to be part of the recall. This whole positional asphyxiation thing has been huge on my mind in recent days. I knew about it before, but reading up on it is really anxiety-provoking. I had to take a break from spiraling on it and just take comfort in the fact that we are doing what we know to prevent risks. Babies have been sleeping and napping on their own pack and plays. It's probably better that they get used to it earlier anyway.

Eames I've been tripping out on it too. Like we know carseats aren't safe for babies to hang out in (not clipped in their bases), so when we go out to eat and he's in his carseat I'm worried that that is dangerous. Or like one of the mons in the safe sleep group lost her daughter because she asphyxiated when daycare had her propped up in a boppy. There is just so much to worry about. And I know these things aren't common but they are reality for some families out there.

Yogurt, I know. I can't imagine what it's like for those families. It's just so terrible to think about.

I haven’t taken DD out yet really because she was too young. She’s 4 weeks old now, and flu season is dwindling. I’m nervous about taking her out say to lunch/dinner somewhere because I don’t want her to be hanging out in her car seat due to the risk of positional asphyxiation. So how do I take her out? Obviously she is in her car seat in the car. What do I do with her when we’re out of the car? Do I take her out of the car seat and wear her? Something else?

I was trying to post a pic in the check in thread and it's just such a pain from my phone. Also I don't love posting pics on the internet where randoms can see/ save them. But if anyone is interested in being facebook friends please PM me! I put a lot more pics up there.

orangehibiscus, i'm not sure of the answer. You can wear them but they still need to be positioned correctly. I'm honestly not sure what we'll do.

orangehibiscus do you have a stroller the bucket seat can clip into? You can bring the stroller inside. Honestly, I leave him in the bucket seat and sit him in it in the booth next to me. Our bucket seat has a line on the side of it though to determine a level when installing without a base in a car, so I make sure it's level to the floor when sitting on the booth too. I know it's not recommended but it's what we do. I've worn him a few times too but I don't like to while I'm eating, I feel like he's in the way, lol.

We didn’t use the RNP for sleep but used it any time we needed to be hands free with DD so supervised but not staring at her constantly. I love how portable it is and how it’s taller. We got a mamaroo as a gift and I can’t even put him in there because I’m worried about asphyxiation. But can’t return because it’s from in laws and they will ask about it. Does any one know if there has been anything about the mamaroo and asphyxiation? We keep moving his bassinet around the house for now, but that is annoying. What is everyone doing?

I bought a swing so I'd have something higher to put him in while I cook or we eat, but he doesn't like it.
Right now I have a pack n play in my living room that I deposit him in if I have to leave the room (laundry, etc).
I'm actually going to put together the mini crib in my bedroom so I can drag the arms reach cosleeper into the living room (in bassinet mode) because the pnp is big.

Like the bouncers or swings? Like what’s the suggestion out their now for when we need to shower and cook? Just a pack n play or something? We won’t be using our RNP anymore but when we went and looked at a replacement type gear for those times everything seems just as inclined. Eta once I posted that I realized it seems like I’m expecting you to have answers or something... I guess I’m talking through my holy crap what should I do feelings thru that post lol.

Thanks Yogurt. I may have to get out the pack and play I just hate it because it’s so big but feel like I need a flat surface in the family room.

I’ve been putting dd in her bouncer if I’m downstairs. We have a mamaroo and I have the infant insert in it. We use it sometimes but it does make me nervous. Sometimes I have her lay on her play mat too. We also have the boppy newborn lounger and she will chill in that beside me.

N was up crying and fussy most of the night last night. I finally woke H up at 3 to take over and was able to get a decent chunk of sleep this morning. Now she’s happily dozing in the pack n play. Why can’t she sleep like this at night? ðŸ˜

He is mostly sleeping 1.5 hours at a time with a few 2 hour stretches.

M was so good the first month at night with sleeping 3 hour stretches and going right back to sleep after eating. Since Saturday it’s been a totally different story, fussing all night and only sleeping for about an hour and a half at a time. I also made him a doctor appointment for tomorrow as I think he may be colicky. I don’t have much experience with babies so I really don’t know what’s normal as far as crying and I kind of feel silly going but it just seems like he’s screaming most of the time he’s awake unless he’s eating and I’ll feel better ruling out that there’s not anything else going on.

Definitely in a newborn haze here. I got a small bowl of cheez-it’s out earlier to put next to my feeding spot for a snack once I was stuck under a baby. Went to eat them a bit later and they weren’t there. Next time I get up, I look all over the kitchen. No where. I asked my mom if she had put them away. Nope. Now she’s also looking for the missing bowl.
We have searched the house. No cheez-it bowl. What the heck...

@bex15, our pediatrician said babies start to get colicky around 2 to 4 weeks and it may last up to 8 weeks (I think). She said all babies get fussy around those weeks, some more than others, and many cry for absolutely no reason except they may need to get some energy out. Since she phrased it that way it feels more manageable.
But even if it's just colic it never hurts to check in with the pediatrician, to rule out anything else, especially since they are still so little!

Eames, have you tried the twin carrier yet? Yes, on short walks and I wore them to parent child night at DD's school. Also one day around the house when they only wanted to be held. It's great but man they get heavy. It reminds me of being pregnant again! 😂 My H wore them to walk up and get ice cream and he didn't mind the weight though.

The doctor didn’t think it’s colic but most likely gas so we’re trying out drops. He’s Only gained a pound over the past few weeks and is at 6.15 now which she wasn’t happy with so I’m going to add some formula and do more pumping/bottle feeding for now so I can see how much he’s eating.

You might be able to do a weighted feed too, if you're curious about milk transfer. I've thought about it but haven't yet, my little guys are not the best nursers still. I'm pretty much exclusively pumping now, with some practice feeds here and there. It's working so we're sticking with that for now. Either way, topping up with pumped milk/formula should help do the trick with weight gain! Is he pretty sleepy still? With DD we had to wake her up to force her to eat, it was the worst waking a sleeping baby!

He is still pretty sleepy, especially at night so it does seem like he’s eating quite a bit more through the bottle than he had been previously.
