So much has been happening and I've hardly had a chance to get on! I've been reading your posts and thinking of you all, just no time to post myself. Partly it has been because I often post in the evenings after the DDs are in bed, but the heat wave (and lack of a/c anywhere in the country, basically) has meant that it has been really hard to fall asleep and the DDs have been going to bed later than normal. They're usually in bed between 7-7:30. Last night DD2 was still up and mad and refusing to go to bed at 9pm. Wake-ups haven't changed, though, so I've been dealing with miserable, tired, cranky kiddos. Fun times.
Thankfully it is raining *right now*, though, and the heat wave is supposed to break overnight. This weekend is only supposed to be in the mid 60s for highs! (For lollipop and other Celsius users, that would be 18°C).

tinydancer - now that I'm thinking about it... when the ambulance came to take you and your ds to the hospital, did her have to ride in a car seat?? Or did they let you hold him while you were on the gurney? I'm trying o imagine the logistics here... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk My BIL is a paramedic and he's delivered 2 babies. For transport to the hospital they have mom hold the baby skin to skin on her chest. It's not like ideal, but there really isn't a better alternative. ETA but obviously I don't know what they did for tinydancer. I'm just assuming it would be a common practice.

crimsonandclover 18 is about perfect weather, IMO. It's supposed to get up to 29 or 30 where were going this weekend. So that should be fun. I have no idea what that is in Fahrenheit. S brought home a scrapbook that his teacher made. It's so cute. Tomorrow is his last day.

He's delivered one baby.

Glad to hear the heat wave will break soon crimsonandclover! Any update on the tick situation? I've been keeping my FX for no issues... Miss you ladies with the lack of tapa access. Hope it is resolved soon. DD and I FaceTimed H and DS while they were gone. She blew kisses and had a grand old time talking to them. Never got upset. I tried facetiming them tonight and after about 5 minutes she realized she couldn't get to me and she lost it and we had to stop. I feel so bad. 😪😪😪

I'm still doing laundry. I have about 2 loads left to wash. I have 2 baskets to fold right now. Tomorrow I have to do a load with the kids' swim suits, on top of shopping, packing, cleaning out and loading get up the van, oh, and getting S to and from his last day of school. And keeping M from losing her shit because of us being busy.

We were covered in a bunch of sheets that my H threw on top if us (no pants!). Also because of the snow we had to go on one if those gurneys where like 4 people carry you. Very dramatic.

Glad the heat is breaking crimsonandclover! scorpioscuba - sad that your dd got upset. I'm impressed she recognized you though - I'm not sure my LO understands videochatting yet (we don't do it too often). Re hospitals - there is one about 15 min away. There's a great looking mother baby center that I would love to use but it's about an hour and I'm nervous about making in there!

scorpioscuba , nothing yet on the tick front, thankfully, but the incubation time is between 2-30 days (seriously?), so I'm still watchful for headaches/fever since we're only about 11 days in. I found out yesterday that where I used to work one of the professors (married) is sleeping with one of his PhD students (also married), they have both left their spouses (he has a kid), moved in together, and it is certain that she will be getting a highly, highly coveted position in his department that will be opening up in 2 years. It may sound ridiculous that it's opening up in two years, but this is one of about 5 positions in the entire country in this field at that level. I was interested in it, too, although I pretty much knew I didn't have a chance. She's competent, but I don't get how neither of them sees how disgustingly sleazy that is and how now everyone for all of eternity will question whether she got the job because of her competence or because she slept with him. I hadn't planned on applying for the position, but now I kind of want to so that when I get turned down I can go to the works council and higher-ups to protest.

OMG crimsonandclover that's so gross. I would 100% assume that she got the job because she was sleeping with him. I would also apply and then pitch a fit when she got it over me.

scorpioscuba I'd be beyond pissed. I get that it happens, but honestly, with a small child? You didn't pay a little more attention? And they wonder why we don't trust them with things. Smh. I'm glad your mom came through for you. My kitchen is destroyed. I've chopped and frozen 32lbs of strawberries. I need to do another 18lbs and then dh thinks we'll be set. (He actually did the last 16lbs, but the kitchen mess still exists). We eat a little fruit around here... I have no motivation to do anything. I've decided this week just sucks. Unfortunately next week is total chaos and I need a packing plan. We are staying 4 different places within a week, traveling to two different cities and dh is doing a triathalon. Oh and I work one day, dd1 has camp one day and I'm suppose to attend a coordinator meeting for my mops group. Hahahahaha. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Http://notjustnovels.wordpress.com

OMG the heat wave! I did not pack properly for that. It was HOT. We literally escaped to the mountains the last day. crimsonandclover, we ended up going to Tegelberg, which is practically Füssen. After 5 days the kids are finally warming up to our family here. I'm so happy for everyone to be enjoying each other's company and for a little down time for myself.

We are having a good time in Colorado. However, my mother has a long list of complaints about where we are staying (which is beautiful and super convenient). This is what it is like being with her. Nothing is ever good enough. It's why I told her she should stay in a hotel when she comes to visit me, because she complains nonstop about my house as well.🙄
Other than that, the trip is going well. My brother joined us today. He helps me deal with mom. We are getting ready to go to dinner at the restaurant where we had our rehearsal dinner. ❤️

Hi! I am here.... exhausted, the kid is exhausted. 3 more days. Right now she is sleeping totally filthy becasue she fell asleep in the truck on the way back to the hotel and I just didn't have the heart to wake her. She is literally covered in sticky things and dirt head to toe. 😬 I am really hoping she wakes up so I can do a bath.

We got part of our to do list for the day done. I wanted to have most of the stuff in the van tonight, to save time tomorrow morning. Didn't happen. Partly because I didn't get a chance to pack. Now we're putting the kids to bed. I'm going to attempt to pack for H and I after they're down. I can also get M's stuff packed. S's will have to wait until morning.

valiente , we've gone hiking on /from Tegelberg several times, including over to Neuschwanstein. What a beautiful area. I hope it was cooler up there for you, at least. The heat wave has broken now. Today we're wearing jeans and long sleeves because it's barely 70°. I've had every window in the house thrown open to get a good cross-breeze going to chase the heat out of the house. I opened the pantry door earlier and got hit by a blast of hot air that was still in there. DH has been gone so much lately for his firefighter stuff and work. We knew it was going to be a rough 2 weeks, but I am done. I told him he better not even think about working late a ton next week to make up for not getting to this week. Dude, if your priorities are 1) fire fighting, 2) work, and then 3) family we have will be having a come to Jesus talk. ETA: Reading fail, valiente, I didn't realize you're still here. Now at least you can enjoy a few days without melting

We are headed to the children's museum because it finally reopened after 10 months of remodeling. Wish me luck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Http://notjustnovels.wordpress.com

My H got home late from work yesterday. He missed dinner, and I didn't leave anything for him so he made a frozen pizza at 11 after I went to bed. Apparently he didn't shut the freezer drawer-style door all the way and now everything in it is completely thawed out. The real bummer is that I made a Trader Joe's run yesterday! That thing was stocked up and it all just went in the trash. Boo.

nellieoleson I am so sorry all your food was spoiled! My freezer ended up propped open yesterday too, but only for two hours. I'm buying a child lock for it so it can't happen by accident in the future. We survived the museum. I am exhausted. I only lost one child. We ended up going out to eat which is a huge treat and they did amazingly well. We had pitas, grilled veggies, gyros and kabobs. It was incredible! I feel like after this week I earned it, lol. Tonight is date night. We have no plans. :/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Http://notjustnovels.wordpress.com

I'm struggling today with my family and being frustrated. Mom complained and made passive aggressive comments about the restaurant last night. It took away from the nostalgia and enjoyment. We were seated in the same room where we had the rehearsal dinner, the food was amazing, but mom had to make it about her and what she would and wouldn't eat. Also, K would NOT sit in her chair. She kept throwing a fit and wanting yo. She hadn't really napped well, so it was understandable but it sucked. H and I spent most of the meal taking turns walking her around. My brother took over at the end so we could both relax. That's when C needed to use the restroom.
Today has been another day of trying to have fun and relax but struggling with a high maintenance mom and K. We drive into the mountains today and K screamed most of the way, then fell asleep just before our destination. I didn't want to wake her so I said I'd stay in the car with her and trade with someone later. By the time H came out I was just in such a mood about how this has all gone that I said I would just stay in the car. About 30 minutes later k woke up and we walked in. Everyone was sitting around having hot chocolate and having a good time. I know I chose to stay in the car, but man. I feel like I'm missing everything. (Don't flame me--I know I chose it. H has been dealing with k just as much. My mood is sour mostly due to my mim's bad attitude.)
Also, my mom is apparently mad at me because I posted a pic of my dad and C and not her. And, when she was complaining last night, i said, "Well i still think it's a really. Ice place." Cue storm off.
Ugh. Can I get a vacation redo?

I haven't caught up in everything yet. But copperboom I'm so sorry your mom is making your vacation so difficult. No flames here. You are doing the best you can and I know exactly how you feel. It sucks to feel like you are always missing out on the fun because you are putting your kids needs above yours. You are a wonderful mom!!! Big hugs!! ❤️❤️

copperboom so much easier said than done but try to not let her comments affect you. My mil makes similar comments and I just try to ignore. Easier with mil than mother sure. I hope you have a wonderful rest of vacation. We are in route to my parents and going to my annual family reunion. What is everyone up to for the long weekend?!
