Bernie did this last year too apparently. I didn’t notice then. Does anyone recall if he did it at the same time as Joe Kennedy? I read he is planning to do it at the same time as Abrams. It would be pretty messed up if last year he waited till Kennedy was done and this year decided to compete with Abrams.

Are you fucking kidding me? I know he's not a Dem but.. He likes hearing the sound of his voice more than anyone else does.

I am very, very upset about the Fairfax allegations I believe her I absolutely believe her as well. This is awful and heartbreaking. He needs to resign too, and he can take his comments about lawsuits and timing and a smear campaign and just, I don’t know. I don’t have the words but this is so wrong. It feels like he’s throwing his weight and political power around and it feels very icky. There are too many parallels to the Kavanaugh situation. She had absolutely nothing to gain by speaking out and everything to lose by being on the national stage.

I am very, very upset about the Fairfax allegations I believe her All of his comments are rubbing me the wrong way but I am not sure what I would find acceptable from a man who feels wrongly accused since I am so inclined to believe the women. I will feel more certain if another woman emerges or if there is a pattern of boorish behavior. With Kavanaugh there was a lot that pointed to a pattern of behavior. That’s not the case here yet. However, our social circles are very tightly knit (I looked up the woman and have friends in common with her on FB) and lobbing a false complaint about this within it would be tough to do socially.

Welp, she has hired Christine Blasey Ford’s legal team. Virginia will be a mess for a while.

Welp, she has hired Christine Blasey Ford’s legal team. Virginia will be a mess for a while. Oye. From all the voices I have heard from Virginia, this is a terrible time for this to happen. I feel for the people of Virginia. I haven't been able to find the facts on what was accused, but most links I find are from men saying that they don't believe her because she waited so long. :eyeroll: NPR did a story about it this morning saying that the accuser hasn't come forward to say anything yet. Not sure if they are behind. Either way Virginia has to finish legislative business and finish a budget. At this point they both need to step down because the scandal will overshadow everything. Which make me ask you all this question. Since so many have resigned or been accused of similar situations and had to leave for a while now, what is to stop both sides from bringing up fake or misleading accusations to spin up people to have them removed and get an edge for their side. I heard NPR saying that a member of policy for the DNC said that they are proud to denounce both Ds & Rs of these kind of accusations and charges making the point that that is what separates them from the GOP as the GOP has just been giving a pass or forgiving people like Trump and Roy Moore for the same thing. The GOP has said they are more than happy to use this strategy as a tool to further their agenda. It seems to me that whether true or false when someone sends something to the press and they report it like this its the end of that person. It seems like an easy way to remove people that could make real change against the system. Also have we also talked about Mitch McTurtle and him taking a picture with someone in front of a confederate flag? CSPAN posted that yesterday.

I’m sitting here laughing my ass off that Trump’s guest tonight at the SOTU is that Joshua Trump kid, who was bullied for his last name. Like how many people has POTUS made fun of and mocked their names in the process?
Lyin’ Ted, Crooked Hillary, Little Marco.....to name a few
Be best guys.

JukEboX the thing is, the women who bring these kinds of allegations often face awful consequences. Blasey Ford couldn't live with her family and had death threats. It's a hard sell to tell some woman to go through that for a false accusation.

It's a hard sell to tell some woman to go through that for a false accusation. Oh I totally agree. The fact that Dr. Ford still is being threatened is disgusting. And I am not saying that either side would have to find someone to go through the role of victim. I am saying that someone could Photoshop or deepfake a video or fake a story to send to a news outlet calling out said person and then chaos ensues and because of that distraction leads to ineffectiveness and out they go. It seems to me in the current state of the Internet and climate it is easy to feed the sharks to remove someone you don't want in their current position. I wouldn't put it past the GOP to do it but more and more the Dems are starting to show a darker side of not playing fair either. Its starting to creep me out. There is no honor anymore.

I am reading the Washington Post article, dismayed. I read the statement from the Lt Gov's office yesterday morning and assumed the accusations were a false flag; I regret that.

Know what I'm tired of? EVERY SINGLE TIME a woman comes forward with an accusation, the IMMEDIATE response is 'well what about all the false allegations, what if someone is falsely accused, imagine the damage a false accusation could do to this poor mans career'.
ENOUGH
Allegations need to be investigated. Full stop. But I think by this time we have learned that women dont come forward for shits and giggles. So the whole maybe its a false allegation attached to every accusation needs to go away. MAYBE men need to realize women are through with their shit and its time to bring it out of the dark because this just didnt start happening in the last two years. Its been the last two years that women have become fed up and had enough and are now saying stop.

RBG was out and about for the first time since her surgery, to see her DIL in "The Notorious RBG in Song":
She is not expected to attend the SOTU, but she hasn't attended any of Trump's so far so she wasn't really expected to be there. SOTU attendance is not mandatory for SCOTUS justices.

And yes I realize this country is founded on innocent until proven guilty, unless you are a black man walking down the street minding your own business or a women who has been assaulted or any other disenfranchised person, because you are obviously 'unreliable'.
It happens enough we should start from a point of believing the victim.

Spoiler alert: it’s not really about the racism. The GOP only pretend to care about racism or sexual assault when it’s politicaly expedient for them.

I am reading the Washington Post article, dismayed. I read the statement from the Lt Gov's office yesterday morning and assumed the accusations were a false flag; I regret that. I did too because of how he framed it that no reputable media outlet would run the story because it was unsubstantiated. He definitely spun that to make us think there was almost evidence of it being false.

It happens enough we should start from a point of believing the victim. I understand that feeling - however, I cannot disagree strongly enough with the guilty until proven innocent concept.
