I just spent 45 min trying to get A to latch. I know she was/is hungry but she would not latch. I'm trying not to be frustrated. I'm so ready to ditch the pump. I finally gave up and gave her a bottle while I pumped. The other day she latched right away and nursed like a champ. Today it was like she had no idea what to do. I think maybe a visit to the LC is needed and possibly a TT revision.

I am fighting off mastitis. I stayed in bed all day yesterday and most of today. I feel much better, but still not great. I am frustrated because I feel like I was barely hanging on before being totally out of commission and I am worried it is going to come back.

tngrl3 I’m so sorry! I hope she gets it soon. I really want to start pumping so MH can help but I’m worried for him to get confused. wildflowers how awful! Feel better!! How much spit up is too much spit up? Sometimes I feel like more is coming out than staying in but we’ve had lots of pee and poo diapers today so maybe it isn’t as much as it looks like. Is there anything I can do to keep him from spitting up so much?

tngrl3 Hopefully you’re able to get in to see a LC soon! Hang in there! wildflowers Oh no! I’m so sorry you’re dealing with that and I hope you’re feeling better asap and it doesn’t come back! I was wondering yesterday if I have a large clogged duct or the onset of mastitis. I never got it with DD1 so it’s hard for me to tell but I felt extremely run down, had a headache and some chills and my right breast (that has the large lump) is extra sensitive when she nurses. I have a bit of an over supply so I didn’t pump all the milk out for fear I’d signal my body to make that much more and A doesn’t even get close to emptying me so both breasts were rock hard for 48 hours. I ended up pumping last night and got 3oz from that breast and A nursed on it for 10 min. Hoping I can avoid it as I can’t even imagine having to deal with mastitis while caring for a NB and toddler. Especially with no help until my husband is off work at 5 tomorrow. I feel for you. Hugs.

wildflowers ugh! That sounds awful! So sorry. Are you on antibiotics? tngrl3 I highly recommend getting to a LC ASAP, I struggled for a week with so much pain and an awful latch. Yesterday the LC helped fix a few things, and now it’s like I have a new baby! It’s crazy! cch my midwife recommended sunflower Lecithin to help prevent and break up clogged ducts! Sorry you’re dealing with that!

TashaLa, that's encouraging to hear. My pediatrician 's office has an OF and she is amazing. I need to call her today.

If you are having some symptoms I would do NOTHING more than you have to today. Fx it is nothing.

wildflowers ugh! That sounds awful! So sorry. Are you on antibiotics? So far I have been able to avoid antibiotics with rest and hydration. My midwife says catching it early and getting straight to bed makes all the difference. I feel much better today so fx I am over the worst of it.

I’m thinking since I have no fever last night was a mixture of the headache I had last night plus [extreme] exhaustion plus the large clogged duct. As if it’s not painful enough nursing with a TT. Thankfully I didn’t have to co-sleep with A last night for the first 2 hour stretch. First time she slept in the bassinet and it was wonderful. Thankfully DD1 is about to have a play date at the neighbors house 🙌🏻 I normally go with her- this will be the first time she’s gone by herself so FX she does well. I’m a bit OCD about keeping our home nice and tidy and have spent the morning doing dishes and tidying up but I really need to listen to everyone saying rest. I will shower and rest when she goes to play. How are you feeling?

Just popping in sending good vibes to everyone! We saw our pedi this morning and Finn has gained weight and she said his jaundice is so improved it isn’t a worry anymore! I’m so happy. And I never used any formula! 🙌🏻

I think it was an 8x11 piece of paper size spit up is only 1 oz. my first was a big spitter. i later found out it was probably reflux and from his food allergies. But if baby is a happy spitter and gaining well it’s not a problem. my second would spit up if he nursed from both sides. other things you can try or burping and keeping him upright for awhile after nursing.

Yet on my third kid I still find myself being like “did you keep ANY of what I just fed you down??” V so far seems to be in no distress when he spits up and he is gaining weight like crazy, so I’m trying not to worry!

I meant to tell you guys that V is porking up nicely and it makes me so happy. I love a good fat baby, but being a little bit early he was much smaller at birth than my other babies (6 lb 14 oz) so I figured he might just be a peanut. Nope! I steped on the scale with him at the OB on Wednesday and at 5 weeks old he is 11 lbs even 😳
Not that exciting really but I figured you guys would understand why this is exciting to me lol

B is over 10 pounds and 1s are getting snug. I should probably exchange my other box of 1s.

We’re using up the last 1’s but I think he’s ready for 2’s soon because his thighs are getting pretty round so the 1’s feel tight when I close them.

@amc I've been transitioning some this week. Yesterday was a good day and she nursed all her daytime feeds. I still pump afterwards as she also doesn't eat near what I make. Overnight I've still been doing bottles to cut down on time up since I can get bottle feed and pump at the same time. Not sure on our weight over here, but she still isn't filling out preemie stuff. I put on something newborn the other day and it was still crazy big.

k I had my first glass of wine the other day! It was so bizarre after such a long time! Sorry I have so many FTM questions but I was wondering about introducing a bottle while BF’ing. MH is anxious to be able to help but I’m nervous to confuse him when BF’ing is going so well. He’s only a week and a half old and I was planning to wait much longer to introduce a bottle.

Every baby is different but I have never had an issue with any of my 3 kids going back and forth between breast and bottles. They all have had bottles at a few days old. I nursed my oldest until 18 months and DD1 until 2.25. The whole nipple confusion thing has pretty much been disproved. I would say if you do choose to do a bottle, make sure you get a slow flow nipple.

strawberrykiki I agree, introduce the bottle without too much worry about nipple confusion. Do a paced feeding with a slow flow nipple and you should be fine.

@amc how did the transition go?
As for bottles, S took her first one at 2 weeks. I was taking what I was getting in the haakaa and feeding her that to top her off MOTN. She took a random bottle, from me, no problem. DD1 was soooo high maintenance! We tried 10 bottles, I couldn’t give it to her, and she needed it warmed to 152 degrees lol She was so particular and made it a challenge. But that’s her personality lol

So B slept all night (don’t hate me). I didn’t wake up super engorged so now I’m worrying about my supply, but she’s gaining well and has plenty of diapers so I’m just being crazy right?

But now I’m like...is she sick?! why is she sleeping so much? It’s uncharacteristic for my kids ha. I need to chill TF out.

Re: bottles - we had a similar experience to TashaLa with DS1, but not until 8 weeks. We’d been giving him one bottle every day since he was 2 weeks old with no issues, then he suddenly went on bottle strike and refused all nipples that weren’t attached to me. So in a nutshell, we had problems, but they didn’t impact BFing. (My phone changed “nutshell” to “it’s hell,” which is the most apropos autocorrect I’ve seen yet.) k You have a unicorn baby! Could she please have a chat with mine and let him know that sleep is actually a wonderful thing?
