How old is your LO?: 5 months
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going?: Nursing on demand at home, pumping 3x a day at work
4-8 mo If you’ve introduced solids, how is LO doing?: We've let DS3 taste a few things. He really likes sucking on clementine segments. If you haven’t, how do you feel about introducing?: I'm not super-psyched to introduce them bc it's more work... but it does take the pressure off pumping a little bit, and it's fun to watch them eat. I think we'll just be letting him taste things for another month or so until he can sit up well in a high chair.
If you’ve returned to work, how is that transition going?: I've been exhausted and overwhelmed for the last few weeks- we've all been passing around the same horrible cold and I can't seem to recuperate because the baby keeps waking up like 4x a night. ugh.
GTKY: blackout curtains or natural light for bedrooms?: we have blackout curtains AND blackout shades in our bedroom. the kids just have blackout shades with regular curtains. i like it really dark for falling asleep but i wonder if it would be easier for us adults to wake up in the mornings if we did have some natural light coming in.

How old is your LO? 10.5 weeks
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing - it's going well.
0-3 mo Nursing in public: questions, experiences, anecdotes? I feel pretty confident at NIP this time around. Or perhaps I just care less what anyone thinks!
Questions/AW? What would I need to cut out of my diet to prevent excessive gas in my DD?? I had read on Kellymom that what I eat shouldn't cause gas in baby. But I've heard a lot of women say otherwise. And I swear I see a connection in the times that I myself am really gassy and DD will be too. I'm a vegetarian so I eat a lot of beans, tofu and farty veggies! My dairy intake is mostly cheese. I also eat chocolate and have one cup of coffee usually every day. I don't know what I'm going to eat if I cut out all that stuff 😔 Gas drops haven't helped at all that I've noticed. I'm having a lot of night issues and I'm wondering if gas is part of the problem. I'm desperate to get some sleep.
GTKY: blackout curtains or natural light for bedrooms? For myself I have blackout curtains because I like it dark at night. But I have a really hard time waking up in the morning in a dark room, so I wish I had some automatic curtains that would open themselves on a timer in the early AM or something awesome like that! I'm sure this exists somewhere. I'm also sure it's out of my price range - Ha! For the kids I use a thinner curtain.

tbirdlove, traditionally gas-causing foods (beans, cruciferous veg, etc.) don't cause gas in baby-- the gas is produced by the foods as they are sitting in your intestines. gas in your LO could be caused by a milk protein sensitivity. for the first 4 months or so, DS3 was a very cranky and also a very gassy individual, but our pediatrician kept saying that if he had a milk protein allergy, that he would have blood/mucus in his stool. so, i suppose you could try cutting dairy for a week and seeing if it helped... but i personally was never that motivated. circle burping worked pretty well for us to help DS3 pass gas/burp. and i know some people swear by gripe water, although i'm skeptical. is LO just waking a lot at night and seeming uncomfortable?

Hi all! I am new to the check-in but not really new to BFing. I nursed DS2 (2.5 YO) for 18 months when he self weaned. I nursed DS1 (9 YO) for 4 months. With both other boys I had oversupply DS3 and this BFing journey is definitely different so far than either of my other 2 boys though!
How old is your LO? 3 weeks
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing
0-3 mo Nursing in public: questions, experiences, anecdotes? With DS2 I had several encounters with people who saw what I was doing and just avoided me at all costs. One time I was in my parked car and someone pulled up next to me, saw what I was doing, then pulled back out and parked somewhere else!
Questions/AW? I do have a couple questions!
Either my supply regulated very quickly or I may be dealing with a lower supply this time around. I only had about a day if engorgement this time around and now my breasts are generally always soft. DS3 eats like a beast though and nurses from both sides usually every 2-3 hours. I stopped nursing DS2 just before I got PG with this guy. Anyone else had their supply regulate really fast? Or has anyone else had oversupply with other kids then low supply with another?
Second question: DS3 has been having some cluster feeding/evening fussiness where he wants to nurse non stop and fusses and pulls off the boob frequently. My boobs appear empty but I keep latching him on anyway. Anyone else deal with this? It lasts for like 2 hours in the evening and it's so frustrating!

LO will be 11 months this week! Nursing and pumping. Down to 1 pump a day and pulling from freezer. No magic bullet for distracted babies other than a dark quiet room. My NIP anecdotes are that I felt much more comfortable in New Orleans with my first than in Texas with my 2nd. Also I nursed the baby sitting next to me on a theme park ride last month. He was sitting next to me on a kiddie ferris wheel. It was enclosed so actually pretty private. Good thing I'm short Gtky: we just have blinds.

How old is your LO? 3.5 months
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing. It’s going ok. We tried a pumped bottle this past weekend and I tried to pump while he was taking the bottle and the amount that I was able to pump was really discouraging. The pumped milk was from a small stash I built up in his first few weeks of life.
0-3 mo Nursing in public: questions, experiences, anecdotes? I nurse a lot in the car, I feel very uncomfortable NIP. We start a class next month I’m getting nervous about how feeding will go while we are at the class together. I think finding a few nursing shirts will help.
Questions/AW?
GTKY: blackout curtains or natural light for bedrooms? We have blackout curtains in all the bedrooms

It was so frustrating, but like you I just kept putting him to my breast.

Howdy ya'll!
How old is your LO? 5.5 months. Holy is time flying!
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing on demand with a few oz of formula when he's still hungry. My LO is still only in the 3rd percentile, but I swear he eats almost non stop!
4-8 mo If you’ve introduced solids, how is LO doing? If you haven’t, how do you feel about introducing?
I've given him some cereal a few times, but he doesn't seem super interested so far. I did mix it with a bit of strawberry puree and he ate a bit more, but he definitely is more interested in the breast than anything else. We're having a dietitian come out to see us next week to talk to us a bit more about introducing and transitioning to solids.
GTKY: blackout curtains or natural light for bedrooms? I just have blinds in my room. DH has his own room for the moment since I'm bed sharing with LO, we sleep different hours, and like our room temperatures different. He has blackout curtains in his room.

How old is your LO? 4 months Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing at home, pumping at work 4-8 mo If you’ve introduced solids, how is LO doing? If you haven’t, how do you feel about introducing? I'm not in a hurry. I don't want to deal with the diapers that come with solids and it just feels like more work for me. If you’ve returned to work, how is that transition going? It's exhausting. Questions/AW? Still dealing with clogged ducts. GTKY: blackout curtains or natural light for bedrooms? We just have blinds in our room. The kids both have blackout curtains

vvvvvfee I remember reading exactly the same info. I figured if it was a milk protein issue then the gas/night issues would be constant. But it comes and goes, so it must be something else. The last time she had horrible nights like this was smack in the middle of Leap 2 (according the WW app and based on her EDD). I first thought gas that time too. I thought it was still a little early for Leap 3, but maybe it's that... She cannot be laid down without waking up crying. She does seem uncomfortable and is scruntching and thrusting her legs, passing a small toot and then crying even more. When she gets like this she'll only sleep with me. And when I finally bring her to bed with me she will pass a lot of gas. I'm just so tired that I'm grasping at straws. And rambling. And now I'm thinking it might be Leap 3 after all... And, oh yeah! I remember trying the circle burping with my DS - I forgot about that. I'll try it with DD too. Thank you for your insight 😊

vvvvvfee FX everyone is healthy soon! sarcaztic10 I had much less engorgement & my supply regulated months earlier with my second child. Remember as long as LO is having 6+ wet diapers in 24 hours, intake is sufficient. And at 3 weeks you’ve likely got a pedi visit or weight check coming up soon that can help ease your mind. Or my pedi always welcomed us to pop by and do a weight check anytime. As for the evening fussies, sounds like you’re doing the right thing. Switch back and forth between breasts as needed. Cluster feeding is both a way for baby to get fatty milk and a way for baby to up your supply. 3 week growth spurt can be intense. I found the evening cluster feed eased up after the fourth trimester. www.becomingmamas.com/life-in-the-fourth-trimester/kellymom.com/hot-topics/newborn-nursing/If you’ve been nursing a while and you need a break, slip your finger in the corner of LO’s mouth between his gums to break suction. Hand him off to another caregiver or put him in a safe place & go to the bathroom, step outside and get some fresh air, do a couple minutes of yoga, then if baby still needs you, settle back into your nursing nest (you’ve got one, right? Comfy place, glass of water, snacks, tv remote, phone charger, etc) and nurse on. It gets better!

lily we have a weight check next Thursday. I am hoping that his constant nursing is translating into good weight gain. I hope the evening fussiness ends soon too since it makes it so hard to do anything, like make dinner, for my other kids!

tbirdlove, hugs, i was doing the same thing for DS3-- trying to find a cause for his seeming discomfort. but i think he was just colicky and has a very sensitive personality. i did a lot of reading of the period of purple crying website ( link if you're not familiar) during the first few months and telling myself that it would pass soon. it's much harder to deal with a fussy baby when you have a toddler to deal with, too! hope it gets easier for you soon.

Even nursing in a baby carrier isn’t that helpful for me at 3 weeks old, though some folks find it a life saver. Wrap naps, yes, but wrap nursing still required my hands. Is there a way you can fix dinner earlier in the day if baby is less needy then? Crockpot? Sandwiches? Soup? Doesn’t help with big kid bedtime, though.. but maybe a baby carrier can?

lily I have just been trying to keep meals as simple as possible lately. We don't eat eggs, dairy, or tree nuts due to allergies so lots of quick easy meals or pre-prepared meals are off limits. I baby wear pretty much all the time to get stuff done. My Ring Slings and Scout carrier are my BFFs right now!

How old is your LO? - 5.5mo
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? - nursing
4-8 mo If you’ve introduced solids, how is LO doing? - we started BLW last week. So far his favorites have been pork roast and (separately, lol) peanut butter.
Questions/AW?
GTKY: blackout curtains or natural light for bedrooms? - I would choose natural light, but DH can’t sleep without blackout shades so that’s what we have.

THEN, around 3.5 months, the engorgement came on strong and my boobs are leaky messes. We also had the exact same cluster feeding/pop off for 2-3 hour journey until she hit 3 months on the dot. Hang in there! My baby is 97% for weight now so I bet all is going well for you.
