Has anyone done sleep training for naps?
J is a horrible napper - especially at home. I swear he has FOMO. He needs to see everything going on. He used to be a good napper at daycare but now that is hit or miss. If we couldn’t get him to nap in his crib at home, we could at least get a short nap in the swing. He hates the swing now.
He is so cranky most of the day because he is so tired.
HELP!

I’ve used the Ferber method 4 times now. For varying reasons. Night and naps. So as much as cry it out sucks, that’s what works for us (except for DD3, nothing, NOTHING, could get that kid to sleep).

We did sleep training for naps! For DS1, I didn’t nap sleep train until he was like 17 months and that was so dumb. It took like 3 days to work and then I had all this me time I’d never had before. I majorly regretted not doing it at the same time we sleep-trained at night.
So with baby, we did it at the same time, although I don’t follow the “rules.” I nurse/rock him for about 10 minutes and then put him in his crib before he’s totally asleep. If he cries, I just leave him be. He cries about 1/2 the time but never more than 2-3 minutes now. When initially sleep training, he’d sometimes cry for 10 mins or so. He was wayyyy easier to sleep train than DS1.

Liv actually does great at night now. I guess we passed whatever was going on. I started letting her fuss for up to 10 minutes on her own and most of the time she just goes back to sleep. She's up around midnight to eat, thats 5 hours or so, and then again around 230 or so and again around 5/530. I struggle with the 5-530 feeding because it's so close to wake time. I want to get to a place where i feel comfortable stretching the second feeding to like 3/330 so that I can feed her in the morning before we go to school/work. Maybe when we start solids.

J goes to daycare - I assume I need to work with them on getting him on a schedule. I am not sure if they are able to help with sleep train? Babies in daycare is new to me (DD didn’t start daycare until 2.5 years old)

But I do rock her to sleep. I love that time with her at night because I don't get her all day - especially more so now since she's in daycare full time - when I went back to work with DD1 I wfh part time and she stayed with me. so.

yellow711 I didn't intentionally sleep train for naps because I didn't know that what I was doing was sleep training, lol, but I did! He still sleeps in the Snoo at night so I knew it was really important to get him to start taking naps in the crib so he is used to the crib. So about a month ago we just started putting him down in the crib for naps after rocking him for a bit and singing to him, and then putting the crib soother on and leaving. He would cry for sometimes 20 minutes in the beginning and we would let him cry until he fell asleep. If it went longer than that I would go get him but he only cried that long once or twice...now he still cries occasionally but it's usually only for 5 minutes or less.

I do have a question on nighttime sleep training. I know DS can put himself to sleep now because he does it for all his naps, and in the middle of the night he puts himself back to sleep sometimes too.
But, for going to bed, DH typically gives him a bottle and then DS falls asleep just a few minutes later in the Dock a Tot next to him, so he is basically eating and falling asleep. Then I do a dream feed...and he falls asleep nursing for his 6 am feeding.
At what point do I have to worry about nursing to sleep (or do I?)

I guess I have two questions! He is still in the Snoo in our room at night but we will have to transition him soon since he is going to outgrow it. (SOB) We'll move him to his crib in his nursery. I am soooo nervous about the switch because he has been sleeping pretty great lately and I don't want to mess it up! I also love having him in our room still and I'm really sad about moving him. Does anyone have any success stories of the crib transition being easier than they thought? He does sleep in his crib for naps so he's used to it but he's never slept overnight in it.

With G, the first night in her crib was the first night she STTN. Her crib transition was super easy.

pinkcat we had no issues ditching the snoo. We went out of town and he slept in n a pnp and it went fine. Same wake ups as in the snoo so you may be worrying for nothing. Also with ds1 nursing to sleep turned into a mess about 6.5 months. He would fall asleep on the boob and then wake up as soon as I put him down. Probably object permanence.

pinkcat our RnP to crib transition hasn’t produced any more wake-ups, the hard part is just getting her to fall asleep initially. So it might not be as bad as you think it is.

We did not use the weaning feature because he had started to suck his thumb to self soothe so the sac wasn't helping anymore. It was at 4-5 months.

I still nurse my 2 year old before bedtime, although of course not to sleep. I love nursing and rocking before naps and bedtime, so I’ll never cut that out intentionally. I just try now to put Baby down after nursing but before he’s totally asleep, but if he does totally fall asleep, I don’t worry about it. He’s sleeping great so it’s working fine.

I moved baby at 3.5 months, and he sleeps better in his crib than he did in our room!!! Since yours already sleeps in his crib for naps, I bet it’ll be super smooth. It’s not like a foreign place he has to adjust to.

That doesn’t sound like “nursing to sleep.” Does he literally fall asleep with bottle in mouth or does he fall asleep on his own in the DAT? If he is falling asleep while eating and you’re having to do a transfer without waking him up, then I’d try to stop doing that but otherwise it sounds fine to me. MOTN feedings don’t count in my opinion bc baby is supposed to be asleep anyway lol. I try to make those as quiet as possible & if he falls right back to sleep nursing then I’m happy.

Our crib transition was never even a thing. For both my kids, they went right from RNP or PNP into their crib with no issues. The only thing DS struggled with this time was because we waited so long (just moved him last month), he was rolling all over the place in the PNP and when he got to the crib he didn’t like when he would roll into the rails on the crib. But with DD she was 2mo when we moved her and she just laid there lol. But ya overall no issues!

dragonflyinn ajetter helloerrbody Thank you for all of the positive stories of the crib transition- sounds like I am worrying about it more than I should! Hopefully he does it with no issues just like your LOs did

pinkcat I’d call that more of a drowsy but awake. DD3 needed to fall asleep with a boob in her mouth and be 1000% dead asleep before I put her down or she’d scream like I was killing her. Whether I put her down drowsy, completely alert, didn’t matter. That is a bad sleep association. Drowsy but awake is good. 👍🏻

She transitioned flawlessly. We had zero issues whatsoever!

I don’t want to jinx it, but we have started no extra rocking at all before and after the bedtime feeding. So far she fusses around a bit and has put herself to sleep without any crying.
Overnight wake ups have been a lot but only because of teething or to eat. I won’t try to cut overnight feedings until a year as needed.

Can I resurrect this thread?
After a failed attempt at CIO a couple weeks ago (H can't handle it and lost his shit in the middle of the night), I was planning on trying again next week when H is on a business trip. The failed attempt has led into a sleep backslide and DD is now co-sleeping again.
I've figured out that she has a combo of object permanence and nurse to sleep issues. Which is increasingly problematic when she's full, so won't eat, but can't fall asleep without a boob in her mouth.
So. To my actual question. I got the alert that she's entering Leap 6 today. Am I setting myself up for failure for trying to ST during a leap?

Am I setting myself up for failure for trying to ST during a leap? I don’t get alerts for leaps and such and just sleep train when it feels right. The only 100% rule with sleep training is that you have to commit to it no matter how miserable it may be. If you think you can’t do it with YH home, sleep train when he is not. It’s sucks for a little while but it will be life changing. I don’t know anyone that regrets it when it’s done.
