This may have been covered already (I don't venture into the daily randoms thread) but is anyone else looking forward to the new Trading Spaces on TLC?
I can't wait to see the old crew and how the show is the same and different at the same time. They are starting to re-air old shows on TLC and it is interesting to see how poorly the show has aged. Hildy always scared me (hay stapled to the walls? cardboard glued to the drywall?) and Frank was always too country. I always like Laurie and Genevieve (spelling?) and at the time Vern was too modern for me but I suspect that I would like his stuff better now.

You cannot mention Hilde without the flower bathroom.
The flowers. Everywhere. In the bathroom. EVERYWHERE.

I never watched the original show, but I’ve heard about all of the worst ones. Were they trying to be horrible on purpose? I just can’t imagine a world where you would think glueing straw to your neighbors walls would make them happy.

There was also that crazy purple living room where they put casts of the neighbors hands and forearms on the mantle.
I can't remember who did that design...maybe the tall blonde? The homeowners were indignant.

I forgot about the sand.
I think I'd cry. You would be cleaning up sand forever.

I loved the original and can’t wait! Hildi was really the worst though.

Hildi was terrible but so was Frank. I actually remember being more embarrassed by his designs.

I remember someone had a phobia of feet so they did a giant mural of a foot in their room. I remember thinking that was kind of mean.

I loved the original and can’t wait! Hildi was really the worst though. She's actually not a bad designer. Yeah, the times she ran wild with ideas stick out, but she did a lot of episodes. So more fun- you never knew which Hildi you might get.

So these are definitely bad on purpose then, right? Nobody answered my question. But what if you don’t have the money to fix it? I would cry. And then maybe murder my neighbors.

I'm here for this!
I watched a bunch of old episodes recently. Doug was also awful. He turned a master bedroom into a prison. It was horrendous.

I used to love when they really messed up a home because you knew how mad the owners would be. I would watch this.

I would definitely be thinking murder thoughts of the person who filled a room in my home with sand.

I hope they get a bigger budget this go around... I hope so too. I also suspect that he rooms will still look cheap most of the time because we are used to huge budgets on Property Brothers and high end staging on all the other HGTV shows. I saw an episode today where Doug got furniture from a thrift shop (not bad in and of itself) that looked like it was discarded from an old Florida beach house. It looked cheap and tacky even back then. I remember one episode where the owners HATED brown and the whole episode was them on camera stating how much they hated brown. I'm pretty sure it was Doug, but the designer painted EVERYTHING brown and the homeowners lost it. Their friends kept trying to talk Doug out of it but it didn't work. I think that was the same couple who insisted that the fireplace not be touched and it was... Part of me would like the adventure, but I would hate to have no say in the design of my room.

I'm here for this. I really miss the old HGTV- designing for the sexes, design on a dime, divine design, decoratibg cents, room by room. it was my Saturday night jam in middle school. It was so much more DIY. I do hope they get a bigger budget but I also hope they revive the diy world and help to counter the perfect pinterst culture.
I have an acquaintance who was a production assistant on the original show and she had nothing but nice things to say about everyone, especially Paige. I love that.

That is a decently healthy budget if the furniture in the room is at all decent.
