I'm super curious now as to what my practice does re NT scan & NIPT testing. I guess I'll find out when I have my first appointment. Doesn’t the NT scan also look for things the NIPT can’t? I could be wrong I think the NT scan can sometimes cause unnecessary worry over things like possible Trisomy 21, etc, and then end up being nothing. I think some practices are moving toward just doing the NIPT and skipping the NT scan.

This article has a good explanation of why both tests in combination will give a more comprehensive view of potential issues. www.harmonytestusa.com/healthcare-professionals/resources/the-role-of-ultrasound-in-non-invasive-prenatal-testing/

Also, I had both this time. First 2 pregnancies I only had the NT but I was under 35.

I would prefer to have both. Give me all the info available please! I think everyone would, but some of the testing is only covered by insurance for AMA or other high risk categories.

So, is every one getting the NT scan? I don't think I've ever been offered/talked to about it in any of my pregnancies. My OB sends you to the local MFM (small town, there's just one) for both the bloodwork and the NT scan in the 11-13 week range, and then back there for the anatomy scan. I think if you get one of the blood tests (Harmony, etc.) they might skip it completely. This is what my OB does too. The NT scan, genetic test and anatomy scan are all done by MFM at the hospital.

Also, notmoose, my OB does the NT scan for everyone but offers the genetic testing if you're AMA or are at a higher risk.

When is your due date? How far along are you? 8/16, 6w today
How big is baby? Maine blueberry/chocolate chip/lentil
Any upcoming appointments? 1/11 at 9w
Any new symptoms or changes? Nausea has ramped up over the last few days. TMI-- I have had some light spotting that started Sunday but has had no rhyme or reason. Not consistent, very light, off pink/brown color. I think it's related to all the physical activity at work and straining to poop. I'm interested to see if I have any on days off. I also have a transverse uterus, so it leans back towards my rectum. Unsure if that might aggravate anything.
Rants/Raves/AW/Questions? See above. I POAS this morning and I probably will each week til my appointment. I'm trying to be chill about the spotting. It's never been red or accompanied by pain or cramping.
GTKY: What is the best gift you ever received? Not holiday related, but both sets of parents let us live with them for a year each rent free. It allowed us to save up enough for our down payment for our house. We wouldn't be in a house yet if not for that.

When is your due date? How far along are you? 8/23 - 5 weeks today
How big is baby? Peppercorn
Any upcoming appointments? 1/11
Any new symptoms or changes? Not really except that now I get sharp pains in my uterus if I sneeze, cough, or clear my throat.
Rants/Raves/AW/Questions? I was carrying a box yesterday and accidentally ran into a chair. It wasn't super hard but hard enough that I started cramping. Freaked me out but I didn't have any spotting.
GTKY: What is the best gift you ever received? DH had our kitchen cabinets re-done as a Christmas present while we were gone on a week long vacation in Jamaica. I had no idea and was so happy/surprised when we walked in the door.

notmoose I didn't have an NT Scan. My OB didn't even offer it with DD and the insurance we have now was really cagey about genetic testing coverage (my interpretation is for AMA or other high risks, but they gave me a weird non answer when I asked for clarification). I had a dating u/s and the only other u/s is supposed to be the anatomy scan With DD they had an u/s machine in office and the OBs loved using it. There is an u/s machine in my current office too, but since I'm new, I'm not sure if there's any chance they'll use it "for fun"

When is your due date? How far along are you? 6/21, 14w
How big is baby? Field mouse
Any upcoming appointments? 1/8, I alsp need to do a blood draw before that
Any new symptoms or changes? Constipation
Rants/Raves/AW/Questions? My OB's office charged me a copay for my first appt, which I ended up not owing, and they already cut me a check for reimbursement
GTKY: What is the best gift you ever received? I have the memory of a goldfish right now and feel awful that nothing is coming to mind

When is your due date? How far along are you? July 27, 8w6d
How big is baby? Peanut M&M
Any upcoming appointments? 1/11, just routine.
Any new symptoms or changes? Nope
Rants/Raves/AW/Questions? We had our u/s today. She put my EDD as July 27 rather than the 29th, so I’m going to just go by that from now on so I don’t get confused. Not that it matters at all. Baby did not want to cooperate at all. My midwife had to fish around down there for awhile to get a measurement and a heartbeat. Which was oh so fun. Not. But I’m glad she did, because I was starting to panic that there wasn’t a heartbeat when it was taking so long. We finally got a reading of 166 though!
GTKY: What is the best gift you ever received? DH got me a Kitchen Aid stand mixer a couple of years ago for my birthday. I love to bake and was so happy. I also think it was partly for him though, since he enjoys eating what I bake 😂
