1) how far post partum are you? 2 weeks today! 2) how are you doing recovery wise? Doing pretty well. Still bleeding quite a bit, sore in spots, but otherwise starting to feel like myself again. Also starting to think about what I want to do to start losing some of this weight I gained, because I've got quite a bit to go. 3) how are you doing sleep wise? About what I'd expect for a newborn. Sometimes I can get a 2 hour stretch but not often. J likes to cluster feed in the late evening, so sometimes bedtime doesn't start for me until after midnight. 4) what has been the most challenging so far? Balancing caring for 2 kids. Even with DH here, it feels like quite the juggle. 5) do you feel like you’re handling most stuff on your own w new baby and older child (if not ftm) or are you getting help? DH has been home these past two weeks, but he goes back to work on Monday. Once he's back at work, my mom will start coming over during the day to help with DS1. Greatly appreciating the help through the newborn phase as I figure out how to handle two. 6) what has surprised you as going better than expected? J barely cries compared to my experience with DS1 as a newborn. Nursing is going well too. In general I feel a lot more confident with a newborn than I expected to. I was a hermit for most of my maternity leave with DS1 but I feel like I could get out and not be cooped up with J. DS1 is mostly handling it well too - not super interested in J yet but it makes things manageable. 7)what are you enjoying most about your new baby? He is very alert for a newborn - spends a lot of the morning and evening awake and curious. My heart melts when he looks me in the eyes. I also love it when DS1 asks to kiss J. 8) extra credit - picture! We got our newborn photos back yesterday! They were mostly family shots, but here's one of J from the shoot.

1) how far post partum are you? 1 week, 4 days 2) how are you doing recovery wise? Really well! I just wish I could pick DS1 up and drive, but not yet. I'm a little stir crazy in the house. 3) how are you doing sleep wise? Some nights are beyond easy, he's a great sleeper, but every few nights is a shitshow. Last night, he was wide awake til 1:30 then up multiple times crying. 4) what has been the most challenging so far? Lack of sleep and not being able to physically help DS1. Feeding was also a challenge for DS2 until a few days ago. He gets it now. 5) do you feel like you’re handling most stuff on your own w new baby and older child (if not ftm) or are you getting help? DH helps with wrangling D'S, cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc. I pretty much handle the baby on my own. 6) what has surprised you as going better than expected? DS1's transition and DS2's napping. 7)what are you enjoying most about your new baby? Snuggling and not doing anything besides hanging out with my kiddos. 8) extra credit - picture!

1) how far post partum are you? Almost 3 weeks 2) how are you doing recovery wise? Physically I think I’m pretty much back to almost normal. Hormones still feel all over the place. 3) how are you doing sleep wise? Uhhh... Not fantastic but I didn’t expect long streches or anything as DD1 didn’t give us more than 2 hours at a time till 4+ months. Her grunting and noises have gotten a lot louder and make it harder to sleep and she’s a pretty spitty baby. All of this is exactly like DD1 who is a fantastic sleeper now at 2.5 so I know this too shall pass... 4) what has been the most challenging so far? Sleep for mama 5) do you feel like you’re handling most stuff on your own w new baby and older child (if not ftm) or are you getting help? I feel like my patience is slightly frayed by the time DD1 gets home from school and while she acts like a completely normal toddler, it’s hard to show patience with that sometimes when the baby needs fed or whatnot. H helps when he gets home from coaching but it’s still not always easy. Not sure if it’s going to get better or worse as DD1 approaches 3. 6) what has surprised you as going better than expected? DD1 seems to have adjusted fantastically to having a little sister. Also, while sleep is the most challenging I don’t feel like I’m as tired as I was with DD1 despite having 2. Maybe I knew what to expect or maybe I’ve just gotten use to not having tons of sleep over 2.5 years... either way, I feel like I’m handling it much better! 7)what are you enjoying most about your new baby? The cuddles. I could hold and cuddle her all day. I love newborn snuggles. 8) extra credit - picture!

We have a lot of outside babies and I want to see how everyone’s doing in one spot. No pressure to answer all the questions!
1) how far post partum are you? 9 days
2) how are you doing recovery wise? I feel really really good. Bleeding is slowing and otherwise I am doing really well actually
3) how are you doing sleep wise? DS is a pretty good sleeper (one 4ish hour stretch usually and 2-3 hrs otherwise) except that he won’t sleep in any of the places we have for him at night. Daytime naps he’ll sleep anywhere but we are cosleeping at night. We did with DD too so not really a big deal
4) what has been the most challenging so far? Trying not to overdo it. Also I had supply issues when BF DD so that is always in the back of my mind even though things are going so much better this time
5) do you feel like you’re handling most stuff on your own w new baby and older child (if not ftm) or are you getting help?
We are lucky and have lots of family around willing to help with whatever we need. BetwEen family/friends/church there has only been 1 night where we didn’t have dinner brought over or leftovers. I try to make sure to give DD one on one time either while DS sleeps or when DH is home. Or read while I’m nursing
6) what has surprised you as going better than expected? DS is 100000x more chill of a baby so everything seems simpler. My recovery has been easier, nursing/sleeping is better. It’s like night and day
7)what are you enjoying most about your new baby? Snuggles and his cute little face
8) extra credit - picture! No pictures sorry, we don’t post online pics of our kids 😬

1) how far post partum are you? 3 days
2) how are you doing recovery wise? Pretty well! Just a little soreness but nothing out of the ordinary.
3) how are you doing sleep wise? Last night was our first night home and it was awesome. I think we took home a magic baby because he never cries.
4) what has been the most challenging so far? My milk came in and these bowling balls on my chest are so uncomfortable. I hope it levels out soon because I cannot be seen in public like this.
5) do you feel like you’re handling most stuff on your own w new baby and older child (if not ftm) or are you getting help? We just came home yesterday evening, but so far H has taken on the 4 year old all on his own. And the dogs. 😉
6) what has surprised you as going better than expected? Sleep at home! First night he slept 3.5 hour stretches at a time, waking to nurse for 20-30 min and then right back down again. I'm so confused because our first was nothing like this.
7)what are you enjoying most about your new baby? Just staring at him. He's so peaceful and snuggly. And DS1 loves to come and peek in at him every so often.
8) extra credit - picture!

1) how far post partum are you? 6 days 2) how are you doing recovery wise? I'm not sure. I think I'm doing too much, pulling at stitches. Also, is it normal to feel like your insides are still getting back to their original position? Like, I have side pain that I can't identify. 3) how are you doing sleep wise? I've never been a napper so "sleep when baby sleeps" is hard. Last night was hourly wake ups for the first part, but we finished strong with 2, 3 hour stretches. 4) what has been the most challenging so far? When she's upset for poop/gas issues. I want to help but don't know how. 5) do you feel like you’re handling most stuff on your own w new baby and older child (if not ftm) or are you getting help? I'm rotten at asking for help so I'm trying to do a lot of it myself. H did get up and rub my feet motn, for lack of anything else to do. It felt amazing. 6) what has surprised you as going better than expected? Getting into a loose routine. Clearly it's not perfect or anything but I'm surprised how much remains the same day to day. 7)what are you enjoying most about your new baby? Seeing her expressive face and seeing her with my husband. He didn't have too many good father figures in his life, but he's nailing being a dad. 8) I'm between poop faces

1) how far post partum are you? * 3w 2d 2) how are you doing recovery wise? * I'm doing pretty good - haven't taken any pain relief in a few days. Waiting for my steri-strips to fall off still. 3) how are you doing sleep wise? * Not too bad. Little guy wakes up only 2-3x/night, which is awesome compared to my previous 90min sleepers. 4) what has been the most challenging so far? * Keeping an eye on DS2 who is raising hell anytime my hands are full. Baby is actually really easy. 5) do you feel like you’re handling most stuff on your own w new baby and older child (if not ftm) or are you getting help? * I had help the first two weeks since I couldn't drive DS1 to/from school. I just completed my first week alone, and we all survived, so I consider that a win. 6) what has surprised you as going better than expected? * I know that it's super early, but he's an easy baby so far! 7)what are you enjoying most about your new baby? * the cuddles and sleeping together 8) extra credit - picture! * OOTD for today - we just moved into Gymboree 6m clothes and size 1 Moccasins (eek!) 1) how far post partum are you? 10 days
2) how are you doing recovery wise? Good! Bleeding has stopped, pain is mostly gone without meds. Steri strips still in place.
3) how are you doing sleep wise? Some nights are really good and she only wakes up 2 or 3 times. Other nights (like last night) are horrible and she's up all night long. She is sleeping most of the day.
4) what has been the most challenging so far? Trying to keep DD1 in a routine and not to get really upset with her for being a 2 year old. She's been testing our patience. It's also really hard not being able to pick her up or really play with her a ton. We have been snuggling at night watching movies.
5) do you feel like you’re handling most stuff on your own w new baby and older child (if not ftm) or are you getting help? DH has been a ton of help. He has been making all of our meals, doing pick up and drop off of DD1 at daycare, most of the cleaning.
6) what has surprised you as going better than expected?DD1's adjustment to the baby has been fantastic for the most part, she loves her. DD2 is also way more chill than DD1 was- she sleeps most of the day and barely cries, lets us put her in the RNP or bouncer. 100% the opposite of DD1!
7)what are you enjoying most about your new baby? She is such a snuggly baby. I also love those moments where she is actually alert and looking at me like she knows I'm her mom.

) how far post partum are you? 6 weeks today!! 2) how are you doing recovery wise? All my day to day surgery pain is gone, but if I overdo it I have some residual pain. I have my 6 week follow up on Thursday and should get the all clear for my remaining restrictions. The biggest thing is because I was so inactive for the third tri, I have lost some serious stamina. My back hurts a lot. Even just doing things like cooking in the kitchen. Changing the kids, etc. Definitely need to start building the core up again as I know that's what's seriously lacking right now. 3) how are you doing sleep wise? Doing ok. A 3 hour stretch here or there, but mostly 2-2.5 hours. 4) what has been the most challenging so far? Like I said above, the stamina. 5) do you feel like you’re handling most stuff on your own w new baby and older child (if not ftm) or are you getting help? I think things are going well. Next week will be my first week solo with the kids, so that will be the true test. 6) what has surprised you as going better than expected? How laid back DS is. DD was a really fussy and unpredictable baby, so I prepared for that and have been pleasantly surprised. 7)what are you enjoying most about your new baby? The snuggles. He's also less floppy and starting to get animated. 8) extra credit - picture! I've got two from last night. Super shocked face and looks like he's dancing.

cythe you can rub her belly. Starting at the top of her belly button in a clockwise motion around her belly button. That's the direction your bowels move, so it helps push things around. You can also bicycle her legs which will help move things along. DD had major gas issues and we resorted to gas drops in her bottles for close to 6 months. You may look in to those as well. They come with a dropper, so I imagine you can drop a few right in her mouth since you BF. Check with your ped first.

cythe our midwife recommended fennel tea for baby for tummy upset (or gripe water if you can’t find fennel tea). We steeped a cup of tea, froze it in small portions in a silicone ice cube tray and defrost one a day. Give baby a little bit with each feeding prior to the time of day they get fussy. We have a little medicine dispensing bottle and he figured it out after a short confusion. Or a bit on a spoon she said was good too

1) how far post partum are you? 8 days 2) how are you doing recovery wise? I'm doing well. My stitches don't seem to be hurting as much. My feet are still really swollen, though. 3) how are you doing sleep wise? Eh, ok. I can usually get a good nap in during the day. At night it feels like after I get him settled and then do my bathroom and nipple maintenance, he's up again. 4) what has been the most challenging so far? Much to my dismay, breastfeeding. I was so sure after dealing with the poor latch bullshit with DS1 that we'd have an easier time. Nope. It's awful and I'm dying. 5) do you feel like you’re handling most stuff on your own w new baby and older child (if not ftm) or are you getting help? He's attending daycare during the week, so that helps. He's been a handful at night and today. DH gets so frustrated so easily, so that's not really helpful. I could call my parent's to come help and we may do that tomorrow. 6) what has surprised you as going better than expected? The breastfeeding schedule. In addition to DS1's poor latch he was a very sleepy nurser and it was so hard to get good, frequent feedings in. DS2 does at least eat every 1-3 hours like expected. 7)what are you enjoying most about your new baby? The snuggles. He loves to sleep on my chest. 8) extra credit- picture!

1) how far post partum are you? 8 days
2) how are you doing recovery wise? Doing okay. I lost a lot of strength and muscle tone being on strict and modified bedrest for 6 months during pregnancy, so my entire body is basically sore after every day and when I get up in the morning. It's not used to moving around so much!
Bleeding also had stopped for the past 2 days, which really surprised me, but then today it picked up again. Bummer.
3) how are you doing sleep wise? I am okay - wish I had more of course, but I know things will get better as LO gets bigger.
4) what has been the most challenging so far? Just dealing with cluster feeding and all that goes with that (sore nips, feeling like I am not spending as much time as I should with DS, lack of sleep...)
5) do you feel like you’re handling most stuff on your own w new baby and older child (if not ftm) or are you getting help? DH is awesome and basically is taking charge of DS, plus we have our nanny who is great and helps with everything. I do most of the baby stuff, but that's okay. I think it's a fair division of labor.
6) what has surprised you as going better than expected? DS loves LO and has been very interested in holding him, playing with him (kick n play piano), singing to him, and helping with diaper changes. No signs of jealousy yet, but I am sure we will run into that eventually.
7)what are you enjoying most about your new baby? Watching him explore and observe all the new things around him. It's so cute! Plus - the snuggles 😊
8) extra credit - picture!

1) how far post partum are you? 8 days 2) how are you doing recovery wise? Physically about back to normal 3) how are you doing sleep wise? I think I've slept a grand total of 10 hours since he's been born. 4) what has been the most challenging so far? Everything regarding the baby. All he wants to do is nurse and scream. It's miserable. 5) do you feel like you’re handling most stuff on your own w new baby and older child (if not ftm) or are you getting help? My husband has been a big help. He heads back to work tomorrow though. 6) what has surprised you as going better than expected? My bigger kids have adjusted well. 7)what are you enjoying most about your new baby? Honestly? Not much. He's so fussy all day and all night. It feels like all he does is scream. 8) extra credit - picture!

mommabakes I'm so sorry the new one has been so challenging. He sounds like our first who cried any time he wasn't eating. I have no advice, just commiseration. 😕

mommabakes that sounds so hard! I feel like third should be required to the easiest baby. DS1 was like this. He was unhappy all day long and just screamed and screamed. Everyday. His reprieve was that he slept at night. I can’t imagine a never ending 24 cycle! Plus 2 older kids. I know this is your third so you probably are trying all the tricks but I’d consider a super tight swaddle if you aren’t swaddling or even switching up diet if you are nursing or getting a new formula if you are FF. Eliminating foods is a slippery slope. One at a time. My DS1 did get slightly better when I went obvious dairy free but it’s such a guessing game and is not foolproof. Hugs. ❤️

Thanks ladies. My first was like this also, for the first few months. I'm hoping it's much shorter lived for Samuel. Trying to continue reminding myself that it won't last forever.

1) how far post partum are you? 3 weeks 4 days
2) how are you doing recovery wise? Really well! Besides sore boobs, I feel back to my old self again. I even started going to Zumba again last week, it felt great.
3) how are you doing sleep wise? Pretty well, waking every 2-3 hours for feedings/diaper change. We've had a couple rougher nights, but overall I'm feeling mostly rested...after 4 cups of coffee in the morning.
4) what has been the most challenging so far? Balancing time with the toddler and baby. It's getting better, but we definitely went through some jealousy issues for a while in the second week.
5) do you feel like you’re handling most stuff on your own w new baby and older child (if not ftm) or are you getting help? During the day it's all me, but H helps with the toddler when he gets home from work. He helps as much as he can with the baby too, but since she loves to nurse in the evening (up to bed time), he's more help with DS.
6) what has surprised you as going better than expected? Breastfeeding. I wasn't sure how it was going to go, since it was a struggle in the beginning with DS. I also wasn't sure how DS would react to it, but once I told him that's how baby sister eats, he didn't question it. NIP has been going really well too. I was so nervous to do it with DS, and now it just feels natural (helps not dealing with a nipple shield this time).
7)what are you enjoying most about your new baby? Snuggles. <3

1) how far post partum are you? 6 weeks and 1 day!
2) how are you doing recovery wise? I'm feeling pretty much 100%. I have my PP check this Wednesday and am otherwise just biding time until I feel comfortable enough to take DS2 to the gym during the week. Theyll watch em after 6 weeks but...gah. He's so little lol.
3) how are you doing sleep wise? Eh. We're getting 2 to 3 hour stretches, sometimes 4+ if his gas stays at bay 😕
4) what has been the most challenging so far? The gas dammit. LO is so stinking uncomfortable at times! And breastfeeding but we're definitely back on track now that I don't have to pump and measure calories and whatnot.
5) do you feel like you’re handling most stuff on your own w new baby and older child (if not ftm) or are you getting help? Well H went back to work a few days after we were home since he was off the whole week we were hospitalized so...yea, I'm pretty much on my own lol. BUT, DS1 is in K so it's just me and DS2 from 8:30 til after 4 during the week. H has been doing a lot of one on one stuff with DS1 on the weekends though so that's been nice that he's had some time focused solely on him without this new baby in his way.
6) what has surprised you as going better than expected? I think just my attitude and expectations. I set the bar low this time so I don't feel nearly as overwhelmed and hopeless as I did with DS1. 7)what are you enjoying most about your new baby? he's just a cool little guy. And I love seeing DS1 interact with him.❤
