W was born on 10/9 at 2:06 pm. She was 6lbs 11oz, same exact weight as her big sister!! She was born at 36+5 via RCS. Neither of those parts were planned, but ended up being necessary. Despite that, I had an even better C-section experience than with my first. A scheduled C-section in the middle of the day is so much nicer than one in the middle of the night! We spent three nights in the hospital and narrowly avoided a nicu stay. Been home for six days now and life is good.

C was born on 10/13/17 at 4:51pm, Friday the 13th baby. He was 7 lbs 1 oz, 19" (though the pediatrician measured him at 19.75" at his appointment this week) at 36w 5d. He was monitored for blood sugar issues for 24+ hours and we were able to get it stabilized. No complications from being preterm other than issues stabilizing blood sugar. Pediatricians at the hospital stated that he is likely more mature than 36w 5d when born. My OB did a cervical check at my 36w appointment. I was 3cm and 80% effaced. He suggested that I may be having a baby soon. My water sprung a leak two days later on 10/12. I got stuck at 6cm, 80% effaced, 0 station for many hours until baby turned from sunny side up to face down when labor started immediately. Rocking my hips and using a yoga ball helped get kiddo into position. After getting pitocin for 12+ hours (ultimately hit 18 on the pitocin drip), active labor for 15 minutes, pushing for 3 minutes, C was born sans pain medication. I held my own legs, pushed when I felt I needed, and the doctor showed me my placenta (it was REALLY cool looking). Overall, it was an empowering experience and very different than my first labor & delivery with DS1. We are both doing well. Breastfeeding is going well and he is starting to gain weight. DS1 is slowly adjusting and just started asking questions about C tonight. I'm hopeful they will be buddies soon-ish. The long account of DS' birth, full of unnecessary detail: We came in at 9 am for Cervidil, went home until 9 pm. Went back in and found out I had gone from 1-2 go 3-4, so they were going to try breaking my water... but the anesthesiologist was busy with an emergency, so we waited a bit to get started. I stayed in triage on the monitors with the nurse checking on me every hour to make sure baby and I were handling things fine.
I was moved to a delivery room around 12:30 and started an IV, had bloodwork sent off, etc. By 1:30, my nurse still hadn't heard from the anesthesiologist so we decided to go ahead with breaking my water and I would try the laughing gas to get to the epidural. I said I was concerned we wouldn't have time for an epidural based on DD's induction and she said not to worry about it, that wouldn't happen.
The doc came at 1:55 to check my cervix (nothing had changed) and while she was doing so, my water broke on its own. She could tell the baby wasn't very far down, so they started a pitocin drip at the same time to try and get him into place. They knew my history from DD's birth and that I react strongly to oxytocin, but I'm not sure they believed me.
The nurse left it in my hands for when I wanted to try the gas. It took maybe 10 minutes for me to decide I needed to try it. It never worked for pain management, it just made me hazy and loud because my inhibitions were gone. But sucking on the tube was a good distraction, so I kept trying it. Afterward, the nurse told me it likely just wasn't able to keep up because the contractions were on top of each other.
10 more minutes, and my nurse was calling someone to track down the anesthesiologist because I was ramping up fast. She checked and I was at 8cm, because of course I was, and asked if I still wanted the epidural. I said yes knowing that there probably wasn't time. It took him a while to get there and I was in a lot of pain by the time he arrived. I was shaking and couldn't open my eyes. They kept trying to get me to use the gas but it wasn't doing anything so I abandoned it.
The anesthesiologist arrived around 3 am and started prepping his stuff and going through consent forms (LOL, I would have agreed to anything at that point). I was sitting up leaning on the nurse and shaking, trying to stay still. He had my back draped, washed, and was centimetres from putting the needle in (just waiting out a contraction) when I said there was too much pressure.
I could tell he was mildly annoyed that he got right to the point of jabbing me and I was bailing, buuuuut... there was no holding that baby in. He got out of the way, leaving the drape on and everything, my nurse called the doc and another nurse to help, and thankfully both of them came in right away. They were both a little stunned because it was all so fast.
The pain was crazy. I was... Doing a lot of yelling, but the nurse was good about reminding me that yelling was using all my energy and I should be pushing instead. I got three or four pushes in and started to say I couldn't do it any more because it hurt too much, but the nurse told me one more push and I'd have my baby. I assumed she was just trying to make me feel better.
Nope. Just that last push for the head, one push for the shoulders, and there he was! DH says 5 or 6 total.
I got to do actual skin to skin right after birth this time, which I didn't get with DD, and it was awesome. He was born at 3:34 am, 8lbs 6oz, and he is a lovely quiet baby just like his sister... for now.

misskilljoy I apologized to everyone for yelling so much. No one seemed upset lol. Epidural free childbirth hurts, man.

DD was born at 7:31pm on 10/30 at 39+2 via planned induction. She was 7lbs3oz and 20” long. howeverithappened.proboards.com/thread/8251/bethkate-baby-thread. Full birth story: On Sunday, 10/29, I was admitted to the hospital around 8pm to begin my induction. They got me into a room in the antepartum unit, started an IV, and hooked me up to the monitor right away, but then we had to wait for one of the doctors to order misoprostol and insert the foley balloon catheter. Around 11pm, I was brought to an exam room to insert the catheter and I was given the miso pill to start to soften my cervix. I got crampy and started having painful contractions pretty quickly and was told I could take morphine. That was given to me around 12:30, and I was able to doze off for a bit.
At 3:30am on 10/30, the nurse came to check the balloon, and she was able to pull it out (not fun!), so she notified the doctor that my cervix was ready to be checked. At 4:30, the doctor came in, and I was 4cm dilated and 50% effaced. I was told that I could go straight to L&D to start pitocin or I could try to get a few hours of uninterrupted sleep without being hooked up to monitors or anything. I opted for the sleep hoping that maybe my cervix would be even more dilated by the time I woke up.
Around 6:30am, I called the nurse and said we were ready to head to L&D. I was brought to a room there right around 7:00, and they started the pitocin right away. Things were slow to start, so they upped the pitocin a few times over the next few hours. By 10:30am, I was having contractions every 1-2 minutes, but they weren’t painful at all. Around noon, they checked my cervix again, and I was only 5cm, so the contractions weren’t being super effective. They upped the pitocin again and broke my water.
By 1pm, the contractions had intensified quite a bit and were happening every minute or so, so I was struggling. I asked for an epidural at that point, and that was inserted a few minutes later. I immediately felt a million times better. I had full mobility in my legs, but I was having zero pain with the contractions, so I labored easily really just hanging out for the next few hours.
At 4pm, they checked my cervix again, and I was 10cm, so the doctor said it was time to start trying to push. The baby was still pretty high, so the nurse was trying to advocate for some positions to encourage a passive descent before pushing, but the doctors were concerned with the baby’s heart rate decelerations with my contractions, so they wanted me to start pushing. I was working really hard, and the nurse said I was doing everything right with my pushes, but the baby was hardly moving through the canal. We tried several positions (on my back, on each side, pulling on handles while my feet were on stirrups, squatting with a bar at the end of the bed), but were making very little progress. My H was awesome throughout all of it helping me move into all of the different positions and encouraging me the best he could. There was some disagreement between the attending doctor and residents about the direction she was facing and whether she was at a +2 or +3 station, but either way, it didn’t seem like she was going to come out on her own.
After pushing for three hours, at 7pm, the doctor booked an OR to prepare for a c-section, but he wanted to try one big push with the forceps first. They struggled to insert the forceps, and my epidural was starting to wear off, so things got intense really quickly. By 7:20, the forceps were in, and with my next contraction, we got her head out. Another push (and pull), and she was born at 7:31pm. The cord was wrapped around her neck twice, but she coughed and cried immediately.
I ended up with a third degree tear, and I needed another dose of local anesthesia to make it through about 30 minutes of stitching, but by then, she was on my chest, and I was able to relax. Because I was completely numb and immobile at that point, we were stuck in the delivery room for another five hours before being moved to the maternity floor.

With this pregnancy, I had a lot of random contractions so I was worried about missing it. The Friday before I had an OB appointment and was 3cm. We had things planned that weekend so Monday was my ideal day to get us out of the hospital before Thanksgiving.
Sunday, I started to get more random contractions. Some hurt, but they weren't regular. That evening, I went to sleep with very light contractions. Usually they would go away with some rest. I woke up around 5:30 with more contractions. I tried to stop them with some water, food and rest and they continued. When H woke up, I told him but I was worried about them being false. He called his parents just in case. They continued to get stronger so we got the kids up for the day to get checked out. We drove them over to the hospital and switched cars with H's grandparents. We got there around 7:30.
When we got to triage, I was 5.5 cm so they were definitely real and we were admitted. They told me the anesthesiologist had c sections that morning and if I wanted to wait or squeeze in before. I asked them to do it before.
She was very quick and I got the epidural around 8:15. She did it lighter than normal. The OB came over before appointments and broke my water to encourage things along. We also started a little pictocin. I was about a 6 at this point. We joked about his busy day and I told him I freed up an appointment that afternoon. He told me to wait until then.
Around 10:15 I started to feel more pressure and called the nurse. She called the OB to come over. She was worried about delivering a baby herself. She had me all ready to push. As I pushed, the baby would come down and then go back up. He kept saying the baby had a big head and might be turned. It turns out the baby was sunny side up. After about 5 sets of pushes, the baby was out!
We were team green so the gender was a surprise. Baby was a girl!!! She looked great! Born at 10:55 am, 7 lbs 3 oz and 19.5 inches.
There was a lot of drama after the birth. The lights weren't working well so the doctor couldn't see as well to stitch up the second degree tear. Then, they lost a gauze. I am all exposed still and in comes an army to look for it. The OB checks internally and doesn't feel it is there. They count so many times and look everywhere. The protocol is to do an x-ray so they get one done asap.
They told me I could order lunch. I am starving. As I was eating lunch, the charge nurse comes in and tells me I was supposed to be NPO in case they need to retrieve the gauze. She said she has to take my food away. I scarf down the last of the delicious chocolate cake. She was sympathetic.
We eventually get transferred to the recovery room. A few visits with family and the kids. I order dinner. Then the OB walks in and starts asking how I felt, how I really felt, with a concerned look on his face. He had me worried.
He said that they saw an object on the x-ray. It was high up so he didn't think it was gauze. However, he wanted to do another x-ray and make sure they got a clear shot. If this still showed the object, he said they would give me general anesthesia and try to retrieve it. He has no clue how it could get in there.
My dinner came, but I couldn't eat it. I couldn't drink water. :-( I wasn't overly concerned. It is what it is. I didn't want it sitting in there and get infected. Gross. H took the kids home to sleep and I waited to get the results. The second x-ray didn't show anything so I got to order another dinner at 8:30. It was delicious.
They gave us the option to go home the next day since I had no complications and had previous pregnancies. With two kids at home, H had gone home to be with them. It was lonely. I got poor sleep and I had no one to take care of the baby during her 10-12 party session. We had a lot of tests that morning to get us ready to go.
She is an amazing eater and loves to eat. It is nice to have a kid who actually takes to it well. My other kids had bigger learning curves. She has been sleeping decently. She had issues with her temp so we have been doing lots of skin to skin at home. I am sore, but today has been better. It is not as bad as the other kids.
