I know for most of us, this isn't our first rodeo, but I thought it might be helpful to share some items that are helping us through these first days!
What Baby product do you want to RAVE about?
(I'll comment below with mine!)

1) Milkies Milk Saver (http://www.mymilkies.com/node/24) - I've had issues with oversupply in the past, so I'm trying to avoid pumping for as long as possible. However, I just tuck this in to the non-baby side when nursing, and it collects any leaking I do. I only feed baby from one side each feeding (helps with oversupply), and I collect from the other for about half my feedings each day. I manage to get about 3oz a day, so I'm already freezing some 3oz servings. Win!
2) Love to Dream swaddle (https://lovetodream.com) - J LOVES this swaddle, and he loves sleeping with his hands by his face! This swaddle is seriously the best I've tried, and I feel like I've tried every swaddle out there. It's super easy with the zipper, and it zips up or down for easy diaper changes. I've already purchased the next size up to be ready. When he's a little older, there's a transitional swaddle that will help transition out of the swaddle and into a sleep sack.

Earth Mama Angel Baby nipple butter. I put it on after every feed and I think it has been helping my nips survive these early days with minimal damage.
The auto rocking RnP has also given us some great naps, upwards of 3 hours without needing to soothe.

I love my Owlet. For those with high anxiety it is a lifesaver and it works really well. Minimal false alarms. It monitors her blood oxygen levels and heart rate.

I love my stretchy wrap. I wore him to church and while lots of people looked, nobody asked to/tried to touch or hold him.

I’ll echo what arimaythea said about the nipple butter cream. I don’t need it now but it was invaluable the first week or so. And i just discovered the love to dream swaddle versed! DD1 lived in the miracle blanket but this LO wanted her hands by her face and when I tried not swaddling them no one got sleep. We’ve only had this two night but sleep stretched from 1.5 hr stretches to 2.5-3.5! I love the silky soft swaddle blankets from Aden and Anais. I had the regular swaddles with DD1 but these take the softness to a whole new level and we use them for everything. These may be my new go to shower gift.

+1 For the Rock N Play and the Aden & Anais swaddles.
When DS1 was a baby, he was all about the Sleep Sack. DS2 is still too tiny for the ones we own, but once he's bigger, in he goes.

rebeccabunch I just bought the project nursery video monitor and LOVE it. It can do 4 cameras and it’s digital (didn’t want wireless for safety reasons) zero complaints so far.

This seems as good of a place as any since we mentioned R&Ps.
Baby can nap in the rock and play, yes? Not overnight sleep but supervised Naps?
What about a bouncer?
I got the lecture about sleeping in a carseat yesterday at discharge and now I'm paranoid about her sleeping at an angle, even small ones.

(I'd prob choose that over the bouncer). The R&P is a good angle, unlike the car seat. Some ladies use the R&P for night sleeping, but it was too low from my bed to use comfortably.

Yes to napping in RnPs! I am too paranoid to keep baby in one overnight but that's just because I have a weird fear of him rolling and smooshing his face into the sides-also the strap situation. But I am in the minority and lots of people use them overnight with no issues. I would ikmagine it's good for reflux babies.

DD slept in the RNP from 6 weeks to about 6 months. Ped didn't have any problem with her sleeping in it. She was constantly congested and the angle helped clear her head. DS is currently sleeping in a Fisher Price bassinet. We rotate naps between the RNP, bouncer, Boppy Pod, and on his tummy (either on someone's chest or supervised on a blanket). +1 for the Owlet monitor. rebeccabunch we use the Motorola video monitors. We had one for DD and picked up another package with two for a total of three. The monitor support up to 4 cameras.

Love this thread! I just ordered the Love to Dream swaddle thanks to y'all! DD was a stomach sleeper from day one so the newborn startle reflex was never an issue. DS is a definite back sleeper so I've had trouble getting him to sleep on a flat surface (only in his swing or RNP for a good stretch. Stupid question for those who have used this swaddle...do you get them asleep and then put them in the swaddle or put them in the swaddle and then get them to sleep? I assume the latter? versed danvers

We love the FP kick and play piano mat. I've been putting him on it for about a week and a half and it keeps him occupied for a good while. My toddler also loves playing with it so there's that haha

The RNP is my favorite. We didn't have one with DS, he just slept in a bassinet, but I'd heard so many good things about the RNP that I thought we'd try it this time around (especially since it was 50% off on Amazon when I got it). She sleeps great in it for both naps, and night time. It's also a nice place to lay her when I need to do something or attend to DS quick. We've also been using a SwaddleMe Sleep pod at night, and will soon switch to a SwaddleMe wrap.

The dockatot is amazing and life changing for me! LO sleeps so well in it - I wish it had been around for when DS was a baby. Soooooo worth the $$. +1 to auto R&P, A&A swaddles Other favs include: -Dr.Newman's APNO for sore nip treatment -woombie swaddles (similar to the love to dream Also - cythe DS slept in the R&P until he was 6 mos, both for naps and overnight. Our pedi in the USA and out here had zero qualms with it.

Taitai I have been considering a dock a cot....are you using yours in your bed or in baby's crib or both? Are you using it now or is it the next step after bassinet? We've got a Halo bassinet from DD that we plan on using but once we outgrow that, I'm wondering what to do bc we did not have good luck transitioning to a crib with DD and she spent the next almost 2 years in our bed.

I nurse to sleep (fully acknowledging this is a bad habit we’ll have to break down the road) and I’ve found nursing kind of difficult in the swaddle. For some reason nursing middle of the night isn’t as bad in it but it might be cause LO is still mostly asleep. Even if she does wake up when I’m putting her in it, she’s usually back to sleep quickly. The two way zipper is nice too for diaper changes and not having to get LO out of the swaddle.

Oh I forgot! For sore/chapped nipples: coconut oil. It's a life saver. Soothing and you don't have to wipe it off before feeding.

I assume the latter? versed danversYay for the love to dream swaddle! I put it on him during the last diaper change before I go to sleep - so he's awake. I then nurse him to sleep in the swaddle. danvers - dont worry about nursing baby to sleep - that's what the boobs are there for! And baby will eventually stop needing that at some point before going off to college. I nursed my first two to sleep, and they both quit needing it before age two. Random note: the pink size medium was $7 cheaper than the blue medium and like $2 cheaper than the white. So, my boy has pink size Mediums. I don't see it as a problem - DH teases me that I'm not over the fact that I have no girls. Oh well - only we see him in it!

moonandback141, the Dock A Tot instructions say not to use it in the crib. (We used the Dock a Tot Grand for our toddler in our bed but I don't have advice for using one for little LOs.)

I couldn't stand the smell of the Earth mama angel w/e nips balm. I was desperate back when with DS and read about coconut oil and begun using it and never looked back. The other nip balm ended going on my feet 🤣

Taitai, I was going to ask you about the DAT. Glad to hear it's a winner. During our stay in the hospital, we had an incredible nurse that i swear was a baby whisperer of some sort and she would fashion a cocoon thing from swaddles around lil fella to keep him calm so I can totally see how the design of DAT being effective.

RNP FTW here too! I actually put in a snuzzler and plop Lil fella in it and instant quiet and calm! Totally magical. Love my Boba wrap has also been totally amazing just like with big bro. I'm able to get stuff done around the house since lil fella refuses to be put down during the day plus I get all the snuggles too 😬👍
