Preemie question

Is it just a thing for them to be super noisy? Like grunty and noisy breathing? He doesn't seem to be in distress. Just always noisy? Like when we stretch and groan, he does it all the time. Sometimes his breathing seems to be off to me, but he has always breathed rapidly. So none of this is new. Just a random curiosity.

Fwiw - born 34.4. Currently 38.3

Baby girl is super noisy like that too. She grunts, groans, squeaks and makes all kinds of noises. Pediatrician said it could be reflux or just a baby thing in general.

Neither DS1 or DS2 were preemie, but they were/are super noisy. DS2 has been squeaking when he stretches and just randomly as well, both awake and asleep. He also grunts in his sleep. I remember DS2 being a noisy sleeper the first few weeks.

I have a noisy/grunty breather, too. The NICU team was all concerned when he was making these noises, but the pediatricians we've seen since don't seem too concerned. I'm still paranoid. Because NICU.

DD wasn’t a nicu baby but she was definitely a noisy sleeper... she still is sometimes too

Yes, it's common for preemie babies to be noisy. I remember being told that with DD (34+2) and the same is true for DS (35+6).

I don't remember the reasoning, but it shouldn't be alarming.

DS2 isn't, but my nephew is 12 days older and the noisiest freakin baby I've ever heard. He's not a premie but...goodness.

I will say DS2 has some crazy breathing patterns when he's snoozing, fast, slow, fast, slow. He was 34+2.

Both my boys are noisy sleepers as babies. Hubs said they sound like baby velociraptors 🤣😅 I had trouble sleeping at first with big fella in our room but with lil fella I expected it and had gotten used to all the grunts and squeks and gutteral sounds. They make a lot of noise for being so little 😆
