Back in the day I was big into Twilight fanfic. These two are under the "twilight fanfic" category but I wouldn't really classify them as such because they don't even operate in the same universe, they pretty much just borrow character names. Some great writing, thogh. The Consequence of Miracles (Trigger warnings for this one, it's super dark subject matter) Cotton Belt (no real TWs here that I can remember) If you like the first one, the author has a self-published book on Amazon called Failure to Navigate, which is pretty good.

I LOVE FANFIC
I'm currently taking a stroll down memory lane in Angel fanfic, specifically Cangel. I love AO3 and how easy it is to download, but unfortunately a lot of the older fandoms I like I still have to peruse livejournal which makes me irrationally angry.

I just reread a fantastic HP fanfic. Debt of Time. Hermione, Sirius, Remus. SOOOOOOO amazing and well written. Like an entire book. And it fixed a lot of issues I had with the originals. As far as I am concerned it is canon. www.fanfiction.net/s/10772496/1/The-Debt-of-Time

Gotta love when a fanfic is so good that it becomes head-canon I'll try and make a list of my faves to share this weekend

Sometimes I start new shows just to see what the fandom has to offer. I've read a ton of Veronica Mars fic, a lot of it is really excellent, and I've only watched 2 episodes of the show.
I should really watch the series.

Oh gosh I wish I didn't rage-delete my ff account. So many well written stories that I'd saved over the years.
I like HP, Sherlock, Sherlock/HP crossovers (there is not enough shermione in the world), and Narnia.

For my Tamora Pierce ladies Lady Knight VolantThis is an excellent continuation of Protector of the Small. It starts just before the end of Lady Knight and really does the characters justice. I like it for head cannon, for all that Pierce has described Kel as asexual in the past.

My bookmarks list is way too long, but I guess I'll throw a few out there: Doctor Who: Time Will Tell - one of my favorite Rose/Ten fics still posted. If you're in this fic fandom and remember Rointheta's works, I finally got my hands on copies of her fics, one of which is my very favorite Rose/Ten. Mass Effect: Sense and Flexibility - my favorite Garrus/FemShep fic. Basically my new headcanon. Across Darkspace - in the Andromeda verse, Jaal/Fem Ryder. I have a soft spot for Soulmate AUs. Avengers (MCU): Winterheart - I think this is actually my favorite fanfic of all time. I didn't even ship FrostIron or generally frequent the Avengers fandom, but this fic <3 Sherlock: Walking Together - Speaking of Soulmate AUs...I'm mostly using this JohnLock as a placeholder to recommend this author. She has a number of Sherlock, Supernatural, and Avengers fics, though some of her more recent ones are pretty quirky AUs. I have a lot more in these fandoms in particular, if anyone's looking for more recs in particular. I'm in a phase where I'm reading more fanfic than I am actual books, haha.

I was so into Twilight fic too (looking at you radiantfate). I really love historical fiction so here's 2 of my fave fics: www.annex-files.com/annex/annex/stories/katherineofireland.txt Katherine of Ireland, X-files fic. Summary: The King is dead. Long Live the Queen. m.fanfiction.net/s/5115662/1/Volition Volition, Twilight fic. Summary: It's Belfast, Ireland and the year is 1972. Bella's worried about her brother and his best friend, Edward, and their dangerous involvement in the Irish Republican Army. Is it really wise to fall in love with a rebel?

I have never read fanfic (other than 50 Shades)
How do you know what's good and what's not? I can imagine there's a lot of really crappy stuff floating around

I have never read fanfic (other than 50 Shades) How do you know what's good and what's not? I can imagine there's a lot of really crappy stuff floating around First rule of thumb is to look at their summary. Is it eye catching? Engaging? Does it tell you anything about the story? etc. Bad summary or no summary and I skip over it. Then read a chapter or two. This weeds out the really bad writers. Like glaring grammatical errors or poor structure. Sometimes the writer is a decent writer and I get about 5-6 chapters in and they jump the shark. Like all of a sudden they want to add too much and it makes the plot all muddled. After I find some I like, I look at who they like. Usually good writers like fics by other good writers. Some sites are better than others too. You can find some good stuff on fanfiction.net, but there's a lot of not so great mixed in. archiveofourown.org has a lot more good stuff, though there are still some awful ones.

chad, One thing I do is look at the last time it was updated and how frequently they update. There's nothing worse than loving a story and seeing that it hasn't been updated for years. Most sites also have a search for ones that are already completed.

The Mellon Chronicles were extremely popular back when they were created. They're based on the idea of Legolas and Aragorn being friends (not slash) before Lord of the Rings. ** I will warn that most are rated R due to violence; there are tags at the top of the stories**This site has the links in reading order.

I know a massive amount of amazing HP fan fiction, all kinds of ships. I also know a few good Phantom of the Opera ones.
For HP, I ship Snape/Hermione pretty hard, but have read some amazing other pairings.

I've shared this one with people before. Favorite Dramione fic ever: Broken by inadaze22: This is noncomplaint with the epilogue. Starts several years after the final battle. Hermione has just moved back to London after living several years in Italy. There's a lot of TW stuff in it, and it makes me cry everytime I reread. So if you're in a bad place emotionally, it may be best to skip it.
