I need some help. S's hair is getting out of control. Last week I was able to get 4 cornrows into pigtails but that was a horrific challenge. She HATES me touching her hair. I'm sure to be gentle but she's so damn tender headed. I feel kinda defeated and it's really bothering me that her hair is not done. I took the braids out, washed her hair and now she's back to her wild uneven Afro with a bow. Will this get better? Any tips to get through the hair braiding process? Any easy/quick hairstyles that will cut down on her fussing?

I tend to do most of Reagan's styles while she's asleep. Or watching Elmo. I also was amazed yesterday when she ASKED my sister to do her hair and willingly sat down! So it might be good for a relative or friend to try for a while

@giantpeach DD did not like to sit still, and at 2 she is still a challenge. When she was 1, two cornrows in the front were my go to style. Ex: PDQ

Otherwise I would just do 3 or 4 pom poms:

I would try to put on a show that keeps her attention or give her a toy she likes at that age. I still wasn't able to do much.
Lately I try to keep her hair in braids or twists during the week, since it's easier and she hates detangling. I try to put on a show or give her my phone with the YouTube kids app these days. It is still hard to do much though, because she barley sits still. I was so happy when she let me do this:
POOF
I look at a lot of YouTube videos for ideas, because I am not very creative. There was a period between 1 and 2 when she did sit still, but it ended recently. I have to wash her hair tonight or tomorrow, and I am dreading it.

rayann She is preciousssss!! I've done the 5 puffs and I'm thinking about making that my go to. The back of S's head is not fully grown in like the rest of her hair that's why I felt inclined to do the braids in the back when I do the braids in the front. I'm thinking about doing it when she's knowcked out like ceci suggested.

Her puffs

That being said, like PP said I would get DD comfy with TV or a snack. I would do twists, I think they would be faster to get in there. I would also then grease her scalp with some kera care. It really helped (IMO) with DD's hair growing when she had a bush.

I will try keracare. I like it. I think I use sucky products too. No matter what I put in it, its dry.

I would probably have her rock her afro puffs.

I would probably have her rock her afro puffs. This is what I'm leaning to. It's much easier.

@giantpeach she is so cute!! The puffs look good. My DD had a bald spot in the back of her head, which caused the back not to grow as fast as the front. So that's why I did more than two puffs for a while. Her hair is finally at a point where I do two, if it's not braided or twisted.

DD (age 2) had a bald spot too and it tangles like crazy. I have found that ponytails then braiding them helps the most, especially in the back. I am really lazy with parts and just section as best as I can without getting too fixed on straight parts. It has finally started growing in in the back. I do her hair after bath and before bedtime normally. I put on something she'll watch like zootopia and we redo it about every 3-5 days. Doing it only once a week didn't work as well for us, but as it's finally getting longer we're more able to make it 5 days more often than not.
I tend to use what I use on me and I always do conditioner then some kind of gel to seal the moisture in. (Her hair is like mine and straight oils to seal = crunchy, oily to the touch hair). My go to right now for her is the Silk Elements pure oils gel. She is finally getting used to it, and the end of our routine is going to the full length mirror to check out her new 'do.

This is our go to style at about day 5: This was something that late winter/early spring would not have worked with her length in the back: Really cute style for more special occasions since it lasted like a day and a half:

My middle child is tender-headed and doing her hair has always been a struggle. Five and a half years in, we're still crying and screaming through getting hair combed.
My toddler, on the other hand, is a dream. She loves getting her hair done. That said, she rocks puffs or her little fro pretty regularly. As long as it's combed out and greased, I think it's fine to make it a little easier on yourself.

My oldest is tender headed. At 1-2 the tablet and some snacks let me get her hair done. She wore puffs alot. Every now and then I'd put two strand twists in. At 5, it's still a battle and I have to convince her to be brave. My youngest had a bald spot and I used water and coconut oil to grow it out. I do the L.O.C method on their hair with leave in, coconut oil and whipped mango butter.
She's adorable 🍑.
