MH and I are looking to go away in late Jan/early Feb. We’re based in southeast Ontario and ideally I would like to keep the same time zone but it’s not a huge deal. I want hot weather also (of course). It seems like there are so many options so any suggestions of where to go or not to go would be very much appreciated!
Our options so far are Florida Keys, Bahamas, Texas, Arizona, maybe even Cabo. It would be just the two of us and we would likely do the AirBnb or VRBO route.

H and I went to Bermuda without the kids a few years ago. There’s not a ton to do, but that’s what we wanted: beach, pool, good food, relaxation. It checked all the boxes for us.

My husband is originally from the west coast and AZ and Texas get some of our west coast transplants so he’s got friends down there which is why these two places are on the list. I’ve never been to either so I would def go although my preference is somewhere in the Caribbean.

While it will be warm compared to Ontario, it won't be swimming warm in TX in February. If you want to visit friends, shop, eat- those would all be great options.
Though- with the pandemic- I wouldn't come to TX if I didn't live here.

I love the Florida Keys but it’s not a straight shot to get to, if that matters to you. You can either transfer or fly into somewhere else and drive a few hours.

But everybody who comes to az want to see grand canyon, and northern az canyon area in feb is pretty cold, maybe even snow.

Shows what I know 😂 thank you for this though, I think Texas and Arizona will wait until later on.

Do you want beach or mostly pool? Cabo and PR are more rocky and heavy waves, not great for swimming. For beach I vote Negril but would prob only do a resort there and not a vrbo

Yeah I wouldn't come to Texas in February. It could be 10 or 90. Or both in the same week. You don't really know which. Also while there are places in the state I love it is absolutely run by an idiot.
Depending on the how pandemic is going we are looking at maybe Jamaica in February for a belated anniversary trip. I would only do resort though.

We’re leaning away from the resort trips lately since we like to do our own cooking and day trips. I’ve been looking at Exuma in the Bahamas lately but I’ve never been so I’m leaning into heavy research. I’m so desperate for a vacation right now, it’s consuming my thoughts.

Thank you all, I really appreciate it! My husband doesn’t know it yet but I’ve narrowed our options to PR, the Keys, and Exuma (this just went way up the list because I realized it’s the site of the failed Fyre Fest 😂… joking but kind of not).

We just went to PR in the spring. The beach was fabulous. If you want beaches in the keys you probably want one of the others besides Key West. I think HilarityEnsued maybe did that recently.

I love the Florida Keys! Key West is where it's at for nightlife/shopping/dining/history but there are lots of places to stay in the keys north of that (marathon, etc.) where you can find a more chill and private place to stay. We did 3 days in marathon and 4 in key west. Bahia Honda state park is amazing and so is Fort Zachary taylor.

Highly recommend Puerto Rico but I’ve only stayed in hotels there. Also love Jamaica but have only done resorts there.
Take me with you!

I don’t think MH has been to Puerto Rico so that’s a plus since he’s been everywhereeee. We were in Jamaica in February 2019 and I remember the flight and airport experience on the way home being so surreal! Jamaica was fantastic though. Edit: Feb 2020, not 2019.

PR still has a lot of damage from Maria, but there’s tons to do there. I haven’t been in Jan/Feb, but that’s whale watching season. I can recommend activities, vendors/boat companies, captains, etc. if you end up choosing PR.

I absolutely love the Bahamas. On our next trip I’d likely stay at the Greycliff - and day trip from there. Hotel website for reference www.graycliff.com

@winomite Canada does require a PCR to return, boo. We’ve actually travelled once, to Turks about a month ago for our honeymoon, and we had to do the whole testing song and dance so that doesn’t phase me. Cabo is really appealing to me but what makes me pause is the 8 hour flight time 😩

We just did an all inclusive in Punta Cana (from the same area as you!). Ambar at Bahia Principe, highly recommend.
