Yesterday was weird. Kids had the day off, but I didn't. S did, though, so we had a lazy morning and then he took three girls to a National Park while I had client visits.
Back to normal today. Breakfast was hot coffee + a biscotti, paired with cucumber-cream-cheese-sandwich trimmings.

I’m on cup #2 and about the same on hours of sleep. Scout was up all night sick now too. So now I’m guessing shyla really had viral gastroenteritis and now scout has it. And I anxiety doom spiraled on it all night. But at his age, he can’t afford to get dehydrated. So back to the vet I guess? I guess I will work some day.

I’m just living that awkward & clueless new girl at work lyfe. I’m currently on my second cup of coffee and about to have a Cliff bar for breakfast.
I took the pup to the vet this morning for his third round of puppy shots. Now he’s farting under my desk. 🤢

I'm finishing up my first cup of coffee and contemplating a second. It's just me and C at home right now because despite the fact that I emailed N's preschool about withdrawing her, she's at preschool this morning. They called me yesterday and talked me out of it 🤦♀️
It's overcast and there's a cold wind blowing. I'm putting C down for a nap soon and then I'm going to curl up with my book for an hour.

I had Peet’s French Roast with hazelnut creamer this morning. After the craziness that was last week, I’m looking forward to a quieter one this week. Eliza is recovering from kennel cough and a bacterial infection, so no puppy class tonight. Fortunately, she’s doing much better. M is happy to be back to school after having last week off for fall break.

Moving on to water.
I am cleaning up training files. So employees have references for plan and new employees have training.
I need to balance this with 3 million steps for costumes.
I’m going to sit down and make a list of to-dos for the costumes so that maybe I can delicate to the kids/husband some tasks.

I’m just living that awkward & clueless new girl at work lyfe. When does this end?! I'm almost 2 months in and still feel awkward, clueless, and a little overwhelmed. Granted, we're all virtual and spread out all over the world, I'm really hoping to feel more settled in soon.

Dropped the girls at school, did a few hours of work, cleaned out and reorganized the pantry, and now I'm sitting on the back porch with the dog eating some lunch. E has an eye doctor appt this evening and R horseback riding.

Coffee with oreo creamer lol. And eggs, hash browns, and breakfast meat because hubby got them and wants them for breakfast every day XD I went last night and got a bunch of stuff at the dollar store to make Halloween bags for some of my friends kids. I'm probably more excited to give it to them than they'll be to receive them lol. Just work and working on costumes this week. I have to go back to the fabric store to get some more tulle for my tutu, and make Ws tutu, dye Ws shirt, and cut out and iron on the "m" to all of our shirts. The tutus are the most work, and really not necessary except that I wanted them lol

I drank some real yuck coffee that mh brewed. It wasn't his fault, or was just a new bag of something that came from his coffee subscriptions. I had a dentist appt this morning to fix a chipped front tooth. I had M with me, so after we kept driving north to our nearest target (45 min away 😩) and got stuff we needed for Halloween. And as usual, lots more. Then we got lunch and ate it at the library park before going in to swap our books. It was a lovely day.
My house is being overtaken by fruit flies and I'm very upset about it. I've murdered at least a hundred already.

Life is just so weird right now isn’t it. I rambled about it for a long time to my neighbour last night while I had a 6pm coffee and then fell asleep by 9.
We had a lot planned for this week but B still has a cough-COVID negative though.

IDK, it feels like we're on the verge of something really big maybe? But I don't know if it's bad or good or anything

milano have you tried leaving out a vinegar/wine mix overnight? I had a terrible fruit fly takeover last year but that method captured a ton! Edit: if not, google it because I’m sure I got the exact ingredients wrong 😹

Edit: if not, google it because I’m sure I got the exact ingredients wrong 😹 I also do ACV, water, and dawn dish soap. The then make a trap over the top, either with a ziplock type bag or press n seal/Saran wrap with holes poked so they can get in but not back out. Again, google. Also keep all good put away and all surfaces wiped down daily so they have nowhere to breed. They will breed 300 overnight in an “empty” soda can. I did a “fun” test last year with a beer/soap mix and a wine/soap mix compared to my acv/soap mix, and then both with and without my trap on top. Wine and acv tied, although beer attracted the most the quickest but then quit. I’m an enormous nerd. Also check to make sure they aren’t drain flies. Or coming from a houseplant. Bc those are different than fruit flies.

It’s been a week. And it’s only tues. there was coffee and tea here today. BM has the cold. Except she gets nosebleeds. So she ended up at the ER yest morning and her nose is now packed full of gauze and such. Gross. She’s wicked uncomfortable and miserable. So I’m solo parenting essentially until Monday when she gets it out. Going back to that ER was also not a fun re-lived experience since the last time I was there was hell.
No updates on the friend who is in a coma. Which I see as likely not a good sign. I saw their kids at soccer Sunday with a grandparent and wanted to just hug them.
And then our new principal cancelled Halloween in the name of inclusion and everyone’s flipping out. Not a good first move lady.

stringy what’s the inclusivity reason behind cancelling Halloween? I’ve heard of evangelical Christians not celebrating Halloween.. not sure if there is a different reasoning?

Also some conservative Jewish groups don’t and honestly I don’t have a clear answer. We have a pretty large Indian population so maybe some of them don’t. She said she knows of a handful of families that don’t send their kids that day and that’s not ok. I’m still trying to figure out how I feel about it.

Our school sends a flier home that parents can sign if they don’t want them to participate.
This year they have conferences so no school Thursday Friday.
I signed them up for day off care so they get a pumpkin farm field trip and a party! Win win here.

When I was a kid, our principal changed the Halloween parade to a "storybook character" parade and you were supposed to bring a book that represented your costume... I'm pretty sure I brought a book on football to go with my football player costume. But, it was a way to find some middle ground with the handful of parents that had an issue with Halloween , and still let kids dress up and show off costumes.

Even as a conservative, I'd question the principal's decision. She's starting a slippery slope to try to make everyone happy IMHO. I hope your girls aren't too upset over it.

I just realized that this is what my DS1’s school is doing next Friday. I’m so frazzled that I’d forgotten. They’re doing spirit week with different themes each day.. Friday they’re doing the book character dress up. I’m just now realizing that my kid’s dinosaur costume is not going to work well for a full day at school. 🤔

Our school doesn't celebrate any remotely religious holiday. Instead of Halloween they celebrate "Pumpkin Day." Kids bring pumpkins in, and classes all study them in a grade appropriate way. They make a big deal about it so it's fun and exciting for the kids. They also celebrate "Day in the Dark" on the shortest day of the year. Lights are turned off/low. Kids bring in flashlights/glowsticks/fake candles and they study the seasons/astronomy/etc. So they do have fun celebrations that don't carry baggage for some people.

Yea, I hope we can get to somewhere like that mapleme, - I love day in the dark and we do something similar at home for winter solstice. Part of the hard part is there are 6 elem schools in our district and no district policy, so some schools are doing fun halloween things. Andalso everyone is super sensitive from covid and wants normalcy. I get that. My kids won't be THAT disappointed for this - but if she goes near valentines day M will flip.

J's school is also doing storybook character day. There is a little golden book for just about every tv character imaginable these days so I feel like this still gives a wide berth without actually calling it "halloween". So I'm good with it. M's private preschool is all-out halloween everything and I love that too.

Regarding the fruit fly invasion, the best recipe I have found for killing the little assholes is 1/2 cup warm water, 2 tbsp acv, 1 tsp sugar (the addition of sugar is v important and makes a huge difference in my capture rate), and a couple drops of dish soap. Then plastic wrap over the top with a few holes. Works great, honestly, but isn't instantaneous.
