This thread is a whole thing and whoooo I have always wondered about this guy. I didn't know the back story, but he seemed ok. Then his tweets turned into "How many of my friends are vaccinated??" or something else that would get a lot of retweets and quote tweets. It seemed it was more for popularity. That's all his tweets were about so I finally unfollowed him. I didn't know he deactivated.

I missed the poof.... I now have FOMO Same, but given the LTs and how DC is just a rockstar in general, I’m assuming it’s more great news for her.

Doocey wants to know why vaccine mandates are for "safety" if it leads to first responders walking off the job. Jen responds that Covid 19 was the number one cause of death among police officers last year.

Asked about the independence of DOJ Jen says that the WH works with DOJ on policymaking but that the WH does not ask or instruct DOJ to conduct or not conduct investigations because that would be improper

This is good to hear there's work being done. Because it's bad out there. We have a young family member who recently experienced a mental health crisis and spent several days in the ER before being able to access appropriate care. PDQ

I think we discussed this awhile back when the EO was first signed. It's a very good first step, but I could wish that exams by audiologists (or at least a medical provider) were also supported by this initiative. Hearing aids, IMO, are not exactly the same as picking up a pair of readers at the drugstore. I wish they were. A good device is literally life changing for many, but a device that doesn't address the individual's specific needs can be detrimental. Granted this isn't happening tomorrow, but I hope the people who will benefit most by this are also very clear on the benefits and limitations of OTC devices. www.usnews.com/news/health-news/articles/2021-10-19/fda-eases-access-to-cheaper-over-the-counter-hearing-aids

Guess this is the week to keep rewording the same question until the point is DED DED.

I seem to remember he floated hearing and dental in his plans, which did seem pretty Medicare Advantage to me though - sort of HMO where providers are limited, which had its own challenges to me. I don't recall anything about Medicare reimbursement to providers going up substantially, which, again, is its own kettle of worms. To be honest, I didn't think Sanders' plan was ever going to get real traction, even if we were looking at a two trillion bill. Yes, it would be an extremely popular add in - one which many people are shocked to find doesn't exist now, and this OTC step is at least in the right direction. I just worry that people are going to be confused if they just see the headlines and not the actual implementation. Hard to know how to triage expansions when there are so many areas that could truly benefit.

Couldn’t come soon enough. My dads quality of life has taken a hit with hearing loss and finally my sister and I just gave up and decided to split the cost of quality hearing aids. $1500 later and he is way happier now that he can actually hear and participate in convos. Tough financial pill to swallow, but if we hadn’t, idk when he would have been able to afford any.
