Tlex, I hope the test results are negative but if it’s positive you have a large group of BTDT moms to rely on for support. Either way it’s a sucky situation. Pistol, I am so sorry you aunt continues to decline. Your family is in my prayers. cnf, the mental burn out from the past 17 (?) months is real. Most of my mom friends who have been juggling it all* since March 2020 are flaming out big time, me included. I don’t know what the answer is but I hope knowing you aren’t alone helps. *even with supportive partners who help share the logistics of managing kids during this whole thing, the unseen mental loads on the primary parent, who is trying to keep their children safe and educated while maintaining or advancing in their own career (or restarting for those who have been out of the work force voluntarily or involuntarily) is a form of cruel and unusual punishment the patriarchal society we live in will never recognize.

Thanks friends the commiseration is exactly what I needed. I feel like my mental health is nosediving and I’m trying so hard to do all the right things - go for walks, take vitamin D, take my meds on time, reach out to friends, ask my partner for extra support, blah blah blah. The pressure at work right now is a lot and I am resentful of how often I have to take off work because of having the kids at home. I don’t want to feel this way - I want to be loving and soothing to my sick kids. I feel short fused around everyone, including myself. Can you husband not take off? I say this non snarky as a wife who has a husband who does not have this flexibility so I get it. And I know easier said than done but you are WFH still right? Is there a way to still work or get some things done throughout the day so you still "work"

I didn't update but my aunt only made it a couple of days off the vent before they had to put her back on. She's on dialysis full time as well right now. MRI shows she has a slight brain bleed that they think is from a stroke but the bleed isn't getting worse so they are calling that a good sign. I don't know what's going to happen at this point. They wanted to do a tracheostomy but she can't go long enough without the vent for the procedure. The doctors tried to talk to my uncle about what measures he wants them to take if she codes and he said he's not ready for that talk yet. I'm scared he's in absolute denial and what crash may come from it. I am so sorry to hear this. I really thought she was going to make a turn for the better.

All of you guys not being able to go back until doctors notes or symptoms gone even with negative tests would make me mad. I get schools being safe, but that seems a bit much if tests are negative and there is no known exposure.
Technically at my work (college campus) vaccinated people who have an exposure are still supposed to work unless they are showing symptoms and/or test positive. My boss let my co-worker work at home though until day 5 when he could test, but then of course it took a day to get his negative so he was WFH all week.

I am letting DS stay home. He has a head cold. MH started with it. Covid negative but he was sent out of town by New job and he has bronchitis.
I might get DS tested later.
He has Student Council speeches tomorrow so I'm letting his rest today.

I think I have residual COVID affects. I had it while I was pregnant in January, and since then my asthma has been harder to manage. I used to carry a pump and only use it once a year, tops. Now, I wheeze if there’s even a slight chill in the air, and my allergies have been so much worse. I made an appt to see if there’s any way to improve my breathing, but I think this is my new normal

I've complained about my smell being not great since December, but it wasn't until someone mentioned that their mom was winded a lot still after a long time that it is possible that is why even walking to my car some days is bad. I hope your doctor can help you with this!

Is there a way to still work or get some things done throughout the day so you still "work" Yeah we’re splitting it up as best we can, his old role there was next to 0 flexibility, so I have baggage around having been doing it all for so long, even though I’m not anymore. I get my back up easily with him on this issue. He still has things with time sensitive deadlines whereas for me that’s much rarer. With that said, he has lots more flexibility than most people and he needs to wrap his head around that and use it. He is still reprogramming his brain from his last job where his schedule and availability was so rigid. I get it, I had to go through that too. On my side, I have lots of meetings and presentations to Sr Leadership type folks who are hard to get an audience with let alone reschedule, and having kids home when I’m doing those is uh, not ideal. We’re butting heads a bit today about who’s afternoon meetings are more important and it sucks we have this stress on our relationship, both our jobs are important.

Nonniedee angelashly H had covid in March 2020. He ended up with an albuterol inhaler (no history of asthma or anything prior). He was able to stop using it in March 2021, and now is like 99% back to the capacity he was before covid. I was discussing this with a friend in med tech research (his projects currently largely revolve around long haul covid imaging) and he said that that is pretty consistent with the research they’re seeing from pulmonologists and cardiologists. They don’t really know much about long term until symptoms have lasted around 12 months. A considerable number of people improve rapidly after that point. I don’t know that “give it more time before you worry too much” is actually helpful though 😕

I noticed the other day when I walked into the restaurant we went out to dinner Saturday that even though we walked past the kitchen quickly to go to the patio I was able to smell some of the food. I am hoping you are correct and soon I'll be smelling better and feeling better.

I wonder about how much they are really doing the contact tracing around here. Just something in my gut based on some of the positive cases at DS's school.

My co-worker's kid tested positive yesterday. My boss is requiring her to work from home until the kid goes back to school even though the co-worker is vaccinated. At this point I have been instructed to take my laptop home daily because I won't be allowed in the building with a positive kid. There have a been a lot of positive kids in the school district but my kids' school has not had a case this year yet, I feel that it is just a matter of time. We are "mask optional", but my kids know that it is NOT an option for them.

Thanks all. I wonder how long after a positive we would have to wait for a booster. And if there are recs for how long a child should wait after a positive before getting vaxxed. Thinking that a 5-11 vax will be available in the near future and we wanted to get them as soon as they are available, but I dont know if there has been much studied in the way of el ed age kids getting the shot after covid.

I asked this question last month when my son and I were sick and some lovely ladies here who are far more educated on the subject than me were in agreement that once you are out of isolation period/symptoms had improved you can get vaccinated or boosted. The 11YO will get vax’d once it’s approved and I will schedule a few ‘down days’ for him on the chance he has some lingering effects. I will get a booster after guidance comes out for otherwise healthy people who got Moderna.
