I wanted to post this yesterday but worried that people would find it triangulating and creepy but I've decided this is important enough that we can all participate without giving specifics bc we all live on stolen Indigenous land. So, share what you are comfortable with (please be mindful of your own security and do not share easily identifiable location info). It's a simple statement: I live on stolen Indigenous land.

I live on stolen Indigenous land. As a resident of the mid Atlantic region, in VA, I likely live on land belonging to the Powhatan or Mannahoac people.

I live on stolen Northern Paiute land.
I didnt tell you about the District post about honoring CC and 'Italian Heritage' right after a post where they 'honored' Indigenous People by giving a nod to CC. 95% of responses were calling out the district. the other were people losing there mind. It was mildly encouraging that the majority was willing to call out the post

I live on stolen land. This land was promised to the Haudenosaunee people and is within the traditional territories of the Neutral, Anishinaabe, and Haudenosaunee peoples.

I grew up and now live on stolen land. I grew up on land that historically changed hands between the Muh-he-con-neok (Algonquin) and Kanien’kehá:ka (Haudenosaunee). I now live on land that belonged to the Powhatan in Eastern Virginia.

I live on stolen Anishinaabe land. Our house actually sits on land that MH’s ancestors thrived on post contact, before being separated and sent to different Reservations. Some of the stores in our small town have historical signs that say the Natives just “decided to leave.” 🙃 Here’s a list of some Indigenous authors if anyones interested in reading material. http://instagram.com/p/CU8KHqqLV2B Also, Columbus landed in Taino/Arawak territory. They are usually excluded from this conversation, which I find odd. Black/Afro-Indigenous erasure is real. http://instagram.com/p/CU6Fj0sLbVc The comments have Indigenous content creators, businesses and educators tagged. In case anyone wants to follow, shop and/or donate.

I was born and raised and currently live on land belonging to the Cowlitz, lower Chinook, and confederated tribes of the Grand Ronde.
While the land was stolen, the Cowlitz still live on and steward this area. I pay rent to the Chinook as they try to gain federal recognition which is just another way for the US gov to continue to deligitimize and erase the first people of Turtle Island.

I live on stolen land at an interesting intersection that was probably inhabited and used by several peoples, that I’ll forgo sharing as it’s quite triangulating!
I grew up on stolen Miwok land.
I lived for 9 years on stolen Wiyot land. They have an honor payment system set up which is convenient.
I have pilgrim ancestors who were documented militia members that did awful things to the indigenous people in their region, and I have Spanish missionary ancestors who traveled the De Anza trail from Mexico City and helped establish the Monterey and San Jose missions.
I’ve got a lot of work to do!
Currently reading An Indigenous People’s History of the US and watched Native America with DS a couple nights ago - recommend both!

I grew up and live on the stolen land of the Ohlone people. I’m grateful that my son is learning about this in 3rd grade as I was never taught this truth. Here is a picture of the wrap up of their community unit.
