It was definitely not a good year to be a Rangers fan. Oof. I will support my #2, the Astros, during this playoff season.

did y'all forget what the Astros did?? why is everyone jumping on that wagon?? Meh. I was very disappointed in them when the scandal broke but the more I read the more it seems like they were scapegoats. There was lots of cheating going on everywhere. They definitely played in very hostile environments all season and paid their dues. Also it’s a totally different team! There are only 5 players left from 2017 (soon to be 4 I’m sure). But only the Astros got booed. Not George Springer. Not Alex Cora. Not anyone else on the 2017 team. I am over it. But there is no bandwagon here! I’ve been an Astros fan since 1986. Edited to put in right year.

I'm a traditional ballpark snack fan. I love nachos with jalapenos and so much cheese they're basically soggy by the time I get back to my seat. Angel stadium does nachos in a helmet. So much nacho-y goodness. They do these at our minor league stadium and DS was so excited. And then somehow it fell off his head into a port a potty hole. 😱 So we of course had to get another one.

I don’t necessarily think he’s some baseball genius. It’s a lot of factors. I do think he’s the right guy for this group of players at this time. Going into the season the Giants were projected to have 70-80 wins. They ended up at 106. So a lot of things that weren’t expected to happen happened. I do think he had a part of that. I don’t know how he was in Philly because I honestly didn’t know who he was when we hired him (and was not very happy with the choice), but listening to him in his interviews here, he seems to be a very good match to the personalities on this team and a good leader for them in the moment. The front office and the 3 veterans (Belt, Crawford, and Posey) having out of their mind seasons definitely are huge factors. Kapler was liked in Philly initially but the team had issues. When he was let go, the players complained of him being more of a friend than coach. He wouldn’t get tough on players when they needed to hear tough things. Hence, the follow up choice of Girardi. And yes! Sometimes a group gets together and there’s synergy that is much more than the parts of the whole. Phils haven’t had that magic since Charlie Manuel, Howard, Rollins, Utley. It’s awesome when it happens! This leads me to my annoyance with the Phils’ love affair with Bryce so I’ll be quiet. I think Gabe's analytics-based approach is better suited to what was established in SF. 2008 was magic. You could just feel it.

My guess is he’s matured a little and also he probably doesn’t need to be the tough guy coach as much because he’s got Posey and Crawford as team leaders and they kind of run the show in the clubhouse. I also don’t get the Harper love. He just doesn’t seem like a team player. My DS thinks he’s super cool but whatever.

Our front office is analytics to the max since Farhan (Mr MIT) took the reigns. Some of Gabe’s moves are like 😱 in real time, but man, the numbers do their thing.

I'm a Twins fan which means if we sneak into the post-season, we immediately lose to the Yankees or A's. This means I usually end up cheering for whatever AL team that is not NY/Boston/Houston. This year it's the White Sox. This pains me to the core because it is so so true

Oh yeeees. I forgot about the analytics that Kapler lived and died by.
I will not go on a Bryce Harper/Phillies rant. I will not go on a Bryce Harper/Phillies rant. I will not go on a Bryce Harper/Phillies rant.

Alright so a little game talk for tonight. Interesting strategy and scares me because Buehler is good against the Giants.

did y'all forget what the Astros did?? why is everyone jumping on that wagon?? I also big yawn this. If you follow the league, former and current players, coaches, staff, etc. What the Astros did was not particularly novel, it was just more high tech…and they got caught. Lord knows I was pissed, bc overall our city teams are known as good guys and our fans show up no matter the record. I was very, very disappointed. But I’m also very “keep the same energy” about Cole and all the other pitchers (for example) this year who saw their production TANK after they could no longer get away with using the sticky stuff. Plus their record wasn’t overwhelmingly dominant when they were cheating so they weren’t very good at it. 🤣

Ok, but Carlos Correa using Jose Altuve’s “bad tattoo” as a reason why he was super careful about not ripping his Jersey off was ridiculous.

There was no buzzer but it was handled poorly. I think Correa was joking and trying to take the focus off his friend but it didn’t come off that way. That said the revisit of that moment this year against the Yankees was amazing.

YES the eagles would have lost anyway. YES he is the best quarterback ever. BUT WE ARE STILL UPSET ABOUT IT. it's just what we do here.

Who is your regular season team? Red Sox but I grew up in the Bay Area so Giants originally.
Who are you rooting for if your team is not one of the elite 10 to make it to the post season? If the Red Sox don’t make it past Tampa, I’ll cheer for SF
Which team do you hope gets punted into the sun? The Yankees already did!
What ballpark food do you definitely get in a World Series situation? Ice cold lemonade and nachos
Which MLB hottie do you want to see four more weeks of? Bonus points for a pic. Xander Bogaerts

I didn’t open this thread for a couple of days because I’m a petulant Phils fan and am exhausted after a decade of nonsense. BUT I’m glad I did and see I’m not alone lol.
I’ll root against Atlanta and the Giants (see: above) but don’t really care who wins beyond that. I’m sure I’ll find someone to cheer for somewhere along the way.

I don’t really hate the Astros too much because I’m sure they weren’t alone in their shenanigans. But I really, really enjoyed when the Dodgers’ organist played “I Saw the Sign” when they were in town. 😂
