I couldn't resist calling the thread Sober October since it sounds so catchy. Come on in and talk about drinking alcohol mindfully, less, or not at all. Anyone doing a Sober October challenge, welcome!

Checking in again after a bit. I’m still in drastic reduction/barely any alcohol mode. Since 5/2. I can’t remember but I think I only had like two occasion in September where I had any drinks, maybe a beer or two at lunch twice. I still can’t get over how good I feel and like why did I used to do this to myself? Sluggish and all that, bad sleep. Ugh. I don’t have plans to drink in October as of now but I don’t know what will happen, having dinner with a friend next week and I likely won’t drink or I’ll have a beer. Not sure. I’m officially down ten pounds with no other changes. I hope everyone is doing well and thanks goldenbird for starting these threads!

canteverremember, I'm jealous of your 10# lost. I drink maybe 1/20th of what I used to and I lost all of nothing.

Checking in for October. I think I mentioned it here, but fall is my favorite beer season. I love Oktoberfests and darker beers. That being said, I'm only drinking 1-2 maybe once or twice a week vs. the 3-4 every day of the week from my past life. I've realized that red wine, as much as I love a glass, doesn't do me any favors. Just a couple of sips and I can already feel the heartburn. #old
I've been doing a lot of thinking about what this journey is going to entail for me. Do I like where I'm at? Is it too much? Do I want to quit forever? I feel like the answers will come to me at some point so I'm not stressing about them, but they are on my mind lately.

I'll check in here! I am 1 year, 3 months, and 13 days sober according to my app. I hardly ever think about drinking, and I made it through my divorce and adjusting to our custody schedule sober. The first time I didn't have them for two weeks in the summer, I was really tempted to go get a bottle of wine and say fuck it. I really didn't anticipate how sad I would be, or how much "being a mom" had become my whole personality. I didn't do it though, and I am really proud.
I don't mind if people drink around me. It doesn't phase me in any way. I think time has helped. I'm also doing EMDR therapy and still working through all of my trauma. Drinking was an escape, and I didn't have to think about things. If I had one glass, I would drink a bottle. Now it reminds me so much of my dad, and I just don't have a desire.

I’m here. 100% drinking very mindfully. Maybe a glass a week, where as I used to be a glass or two of white wine every night.
Same as others, I can’t believe how much better my sleep is. And if I at all have more than two drinks in an evening, my sleep is fucked.
I am not down weight, like at all. So that makes me a little sad, I was hoping that would be a happy by product.

I'm back in here! I haven't been drinking for a couple of weeks now, in preparation for my marathons. I had forgotten how good it feels, and I want to remember that and continue to drink minimally and mindfully post-races and into the holiday season. Sleep is so much better! I have been enjoying some Monday "whiskey" and some Athletic Brewing Company NA beers. I will likely have a celebratory beer on October 10th, and maybe something else that week, but regardless, mindful is the goal.

I never lost weight when I quit drinking. I did start snacking more, so I'm sure that's the culprit.

I started working with a nutritionist earlier this month and have been really tight on tracking my food and drink. So I’ve had to cut back on my experimenting with NA beers. I finally found the Lagunitas Hop Water in a store near me. It’s tasty and zero cal. It’s literally just water. I love it but I found it on sale for almost 50% off and I would not buy it for the full amount unless I wanted to take it with me to a party. It’s $2 per bottle at normal price. No thank you.

I’m here. I’ve really been enjoying all of the Athletic Brewing Company NA beers. I found an Oktoberfest version locally that is my favorite so far (followed closely by the Run Free “IPA”). I normally celebrate my marathons with a finish line beer, but the closer it gets and the longer I go alcohol free the more I think I’ll celebrate with a NA beer this year instead.

Still here!
Still trying to get my sleep figured out, I’m tired all day then wide awake at night. Melatonin is my friend.
I think about being sober for the rest of my life too and get overwhelmed. My sober group calls it “future tripping” it’s not like I want to drink but making such a life long change has so many unanswered questions.
One thing is for sure, I’m not missing out on anything but bad sleep, hangovers and overeating.

For myself, I like not drinking 90% of the time. I will most likely always drink on our yearly beach trip to fall asleep those nights. That's 4-5 nights. Then maybe my anniversary and my birthday, if I want to. That's 2. And some winter beers in November and December. Again, if I want to. Most likely won't have anything until mid November. That seems reasonable for me and a vast huge difference from at twice a week every weeks mixed in with more days when I had extra days off work.

Proud of everyone!
I’m 18 months sober. I feel great and I don’t miss drinking. My husband, who rarely drank before I quit, also gave it up completely when i did. So I feel that is helpful.
I occasionally make a fancy mocktail (I actually haven’t in months) but it’s not because of wanting alcohol. It’s just a different fun thing to do with MH.
I love feeling like it’s just my lifestyle now to not drink. It’s very freeing after years of feeling like I was losing control and I didn’t feel like myself.

sunnysideup that’s exactly how I feel. H and often marvel at how different we feel from before. Like “can you even imagine going out and getting wasted?” No, I can’t anymore.

I frequently think about how I ever had time to just come home from work and sit and drink. I feel like I have no time now lol. I'm always doing chores or little things. And I've been going to bed by 8ish even when I don't work the next day.

I feel the same, what you said about not feeling like your self. All the years I was drinking in excess, nearly every night, and then trying to hide how shitty I felt at work the next day. Always feeling like I was putting on a facade of a respectable, put together person. Now I feel like my true authentic self, and the person I present to the public is the same as the person I am at home. Great job on 18 months!

I’ve been sober since Jan 1, still going strong! I really didn’t think when I was starting this journey that I would still be sober all these months later.
Like everyone else, I am still amazed at how much better I feel. I’ve heard/read before that drinking everyday is like living life in hard mode. I couldn’t agree more and am so thankful that I have found an easier way.

I had a drinking dream last night. In my dream, I decided to casually have a beer, then it turned into having a margarita. But in my dream, H decided to have a beer too and then he didn’t stop. I woke up very confused because it felt so real. And then thankful it didn’t actually happen.

FlightView, I have drinking dreams like once a week, and it gives me so much anxiety. It's usually that I'm out somewhere, have a glass of wine, drink more, and then don't remember anything. And my kids get taken away every time. It's really bizarre.
