Been trying to keep up with the local redistricting shit show that has been going on here. Gerrymandering using literal redline highways to split the metro area and longest undivided, most populated county (60k away from being its own district).
Yesterday, one of the unicameral senators gave up her office to a man who needed an office and they gave him the legally required and privately funded pumping space. Such a disgrace. Somehow, they are also trying to bill the senator $7k as a bill balance, when it never should have been on them to crowdfund in the first place.

We have an Airbnb booked in the mountains next weekend. So I guess the silver lining of a potential government shutdown is we could extend our vacation by a day or two. But really, Manchin and Sinema can go piss off. They are going to extremes just to try to show that they aren’t party pawns. Meanwhile, they’re proving that they are just tools, getting played by the GOP to reinforce the message that government can’t get anything done.

One of these days Jen is gonna stab Peter with her shoe.
I hope I'm watching.
That would be a great last day.

Seriously, let's find someone to primary Sinema. You can be independent and moderate without being an asshole.

Rep Fredrica Wilson is on Tapper
she is appalled that we are deporting Haitians back to Haiti. Says she is working closely with Sec Mayorkas to help them. And you can call her office for ways to help.

The White House is leaning toward releasing information to Congress about what Donald Trump and his aides were doing during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol despite the former president’s objections — a decision that could have significant political and legal ramifications. Trump has said he will cite “executive privilege” to block information requests from the House select committee investigating the events of that day, banking on a legal theory that has successfully allowed presidents and their aides to avoid or delay congressional scrutiny for decades, including during the Trump administration. But President Biden’s White House plans to err on the side of disclosure given the gravity of the events of Jan. 6, according to two people familiar with discussions who, like others, spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the private discussions. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-executive-privilege-subpoenas/2021/09/23/1c163312-1ba7-11ec-8380-5fbadbc43ef8_story.html

Seriously, let's find someone to primary Sinema. You can be independent and moderate without being an asshole. I think that, but then I wonder who could pull it off. Our Dem field is pretty narrow. I'm concerned that she won't keep the seat. She ran against Martha McSally. Then McSally was recycled for the Mark Kelly race. Otherwise, I don't think we'd have 2 Democratic senators. There's a lot of optimism that AZ is turning purple, but I just don't see that. Yet. 🤞

The horses are very helpful like thru the desert washes to find people, take them into custody and hopefully at least get them water before they die in the desert. Changing to ATVs isn't going to fix the people who work for border control who think the poc are less than and can be beaten like dogs

Yeah it's not the horses but it's been made out to be the horses and the idea that they are "rounding them up" ya know, if they get rid of the horses but not the rounding them up part, it's not going to get better. they can still show no humanity and round them up with atvs, helicopters or on foot. We have soooo much to change about our borders, I'm not really sure where to start.

Some really cool science news today. Human footprints in New Mexico were dated to 21,000-24,000 years ago, about 7000 years before last glacial maximum. There are footprints from multiple people, preserved over a long period of time in the same sediment as the footprints prehistoric megafauna like camels, ground sloths, and 🦣.

This is really terrible. Why would they be targeted in Austria though? That seems odd (to me). I get that any enemy could do this to US employees wherever they wanted though.

Those are good questions and I really don't know what the answers could be. There's plenty of speculation that Russia could be directing and causing the syndrome, and he (Putin) hates NATO.

Havana syndrome is so mysterious and scary sounding and it makes me feel like we are living in a James Bond movie.

Oh my God TW gun violence COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — A gunman killed one person and wounded more than a dozen Thursday before apparently turning his weapon on himself at a Kroger market in a suburb of Memphis, police said. Officials said the gunman is dead and described the injuries to victims as “very serious,” as ambulances swarmed a busy shopping area in Collierville. Witnesses and police recounted a scene of terror in a normally peaceful neighborhood, with people scrambling for cover and employees trying desperately to help bleeding co-workers. “We found people hiding in freezers and in locked offices,” said Collierville Police Chief Dale Lane, who called the shooting “the most horrific event” in city history. “They were doing what they have been trained to do: run, hide, fight.” www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2021/09/23/collierville-shooting/

The situation is Collierville is another heartbreaker.
The phrase "run, hide, fight" literally gives me a visceral reaction and makes me tear up. Why do we live this way?

We got a letter home yesterday from kindergarten that they plan their safety drills for the year and it hit home for me. I knew this was going to be a thing once my kid started K but just reading about their safety plan made me so sad. I hate that this is the reality for our kids.
