My mind kept going to, “What if Mike Pence had followed his instinct to be a spineless dingbat and given in to the pressure?” It is not reassuring at all to hear that he came even closer than we knew.
…thanks, Dan Quayle? What even is this world…

We’re living in an alternate universe where George W. gives good speeches and Dan Quayle is a respected elder statesman.

When do we expect to know the result of the CA recall vote today?

Dan Quayle saving democracy and being the line in the sand. What in the world? I want out of this multiverse.

I'm on a fascinating call with the Brennan Center at NYU Law school about the intersection between the first and second amendments and one of the professors on the panel wisely pointed out that Charlottesville and January 6 represent 2 unique events in just 4 years where police didn't have the firepower to stop violence from armed protesters and that's a huge problem They had plenty of firepower last year during all the peaceful protesting. It's almost as if one group intends to actually kill anyone that gets in their way and the other simply wants basic human rights...

When do we expect to know the result of the CA recall vote today? Depends on how close it is. No votes can be counted until polls close at 8 PST but Mail in ballots can be canvassed up to 7 days before election day which significantly speeds up the process. Nobody on the east coast is likely to know the results before bed tonight unless it's a total blowout

Dan Quayle saving democracy and being the line in the sand. What in the world? I want out of this multiverse. This is definitely the darkest timeline and I want out.

Nobody on the east coast is likely to know the results before bed tonight unless it's a total blowout And the Washington Post has this disclaimer: "California accepts mail-in votes for seven days after the election, as long as they are postmarked by Election Day, and employs a complicated process of verifying those ballots. The full results will not be determined for weeks. "

This is vile. Many of the Afghan refugees are refugees BECAUSE they helped US troops during the occupation. Not that I expect any humanity from the Proud Boys.

It's been a topic since at least the 90s, but there is still no will to address it. www.nytimes.com/2021/05/11/us/police-extremists-state-laws.html

Has anyone heard from RajahMD lately? She has been MIA for quite awhile. I hope things with her dad are going OK Hi. Thank you for thinking of me. I haven’t been able to read about politics lately, just haven’t had the mental capacity for it. I’ve been around other boards, mostly lurking. Unfortunately, this is not a happy update. After scans showed that my dad’s cancer had spread to his liver and omentum, he opted to stop treatment. He moved in with us permanently. Last week, he started declining rapidly. He could no longer even get to the bathroom without help, and was hardly eating. On Thursday afternoon (my daughter’s birthday, to make matters worse), my dad collapsed while we were helping him get to the bathroom. He was still breathing, but was not conscious. We had to call 911, and they had us do CPR while awaiting EMS. He regained consciousness shortly before they arrived. At the ER, we were told he was very dehydrated and had pneumonia. He was admitted for overnight observation, with a plan to consult palliative care in the morning (we had started the hospice process, but it was a bit of a clusterfuck). He finally got a room on the floor around 330 in the morning. We left around 4 to go home and get some sleep. At 9am, shortly after I had woken up, I got a call from the hospital saying that my dad had died. I am absolutely devastated. We thought we had more time. I’m not sleeping well, thanks to nightmares involving him (especially doing CPR). And my husband basically has to remind me to eat, sometimes even forcing me to do so. He was only 70 years old. I am 100% certain that he held off until the morning, because he didn’t want to die on his granddaughter’s birthday. He kept asking me in the ER what time it was. I miss him so much. Everything reminds me of him. We had to close the door to his room. I haven’t been able to go in it. Thank god MH has been willing and able to help with things that require going in there. He didn’t want a full traditional service, but we are going to have a gathering after he’s cremated for people to come visit, share stories, etc. The funeral home my brother works for has been a godsend- they’ve already told my brother that they won’t charge us, and that they will not take any of our money. Sorry for the word vomit.

RajahMD I am so sorry for your loss. I truly believe my dad let go at a time when he thought we would be ok so I totally understand your dad hanging on how he did. You did so much to help him have comfort and love in his final weeks and you should take comfort knowing that he was surrounded by your love and support. You'll be in my prayers.
