Oh gosh tj, here's hoping it's super mild because you've just had enough and you do not need any more. Today was my first day back in the classroom post-covid. I'm going to try to be careful of what I say because I don't want to have to change my username, but let's just say one of my most obnoxious 3rd graders interrupted to let me know that her mom said they're not getting the vaccine because "we have FREEDOM" and some stuff about not having to put anything in their bodies and some misinformation about the vaccine. I can't imagine that apple is particularly far from the tree it fell out of. I've been deconstructing my own religious upbringing for years now and I knew taking this job would put me face to face with things I've left behind, but wow. I'm ashamed to even be remotely associated with some of the things that pass for the majority religion in this country these days. Oh, and another 3rd grader followed up with the information that her aunt has covid and is in the hospital. I had to just shut it down and move on with class. There were so many things I wanted to say but can't. I was hoping that I could just stick to music and pretend that all that other stuff isn't there. But it's there. Right there. And the thing is, I love teaching strings. They were so proud of their program and didn't want to lose it and they were so happy to find a strings teacher. You guys, the kids aren't particularly good. They're actually pretty behind where they should be for the number of years they've been playing. It would take me years to get this program to what it could be. I have such a vision for these kids. I know where I can take them. I want to take them there. But the religious baggage. Oh man, the baggage. Wanna take bets on how long it takes before I get another breakthrough infection? My family was spared this time because I tested regularly as a precaution. Do I want to risk spreading it to the kids next time? This is stupid.

She is doing pretty good. She has a wicked cough. Says her throat and lungs feel like fire. But her O2 is hovering around 95% so that’s pretty good. We have to keep reminding her to sit down and relax Bc she just loves to be up and running around. But the more she moves, the more she coughs. And I’m worried about her moving too much as she’s starting to feel better and causing herself multiple setbacks. Covid can take so damn long to shake! Also struggling with keeping her and P apart! My gosh those two want to be touching at all times. And sharing all food and drink items. And in each other’s faces. It’s sweet but also please stop.

I'm sure it's so hard to not be running around. All the things crossed that P doesn't get it 🤞🤞

tj is E doing any better? DS1 just got out of quarantine a couple of days ago (he was never sick, but was exposed) and …. … drumroll please…. DS2 is home with a fever. On the first day of my new job. 🙃 One of my siblings has 5 children and works a full-time job. Just.. how?? I almost *always* have a child home either sick or quarantining, and there’s only two of them!

Went to an outdoor wedding yesterday. It was careful and safe (masks often, not always, modified hora, etc), and the party favor?
At home Covid tests to take home.
They were available as rapid tests at the wedding, and now for the next few days in case people want to test out of caution.
So smart and thoughtful - truly!

She sounds better than she did over the weekend, but we need a negative test to go back to school. Got one scheduled for 4:15 today - It didn't say PCR or rapid antigen, really hoping it's a rapid. Luckily, A and R are feeling and acting totally fine.

There was a wedding here that was the source of a big outbreak, which spurred a second outbreak at a daycare that spread to 7 or 8 schools right at the beginning of the year (including 4 classes at our school). I heard the some of the attendees are trying to sue the bride. So much WTF. Free tests for guests would have been awesome.

I’m really hoping it wasn’t a bad choice. It was our first big thing since forever.

She still has a bit of a nagging cough and is snotty off and on. But she is def better than before. I however. Ugh. I am struggling. I am still unable to eat. I am living off protein sakes and smoothies, but like only 1 a day because it’s all I can keep down. I am exhausted all the time. And my HR spikes to 180 if I try to do anything, but yet my bp is pretty low at only 106 systolic. What is wrong with me???

Oh my gosh charlotte. That stinks! I swear, we have been in school for 6 weeks, and haven’t had 2 kids in school all week yet. Not once. I don’t know how people with more kids do it, and I don’t know how people who can’t work from home do it. I hope it’s just a random fever and he is better quickly. Any other symptoms? So did you go to your first day? Side note: my kids both had the flu my first week of work. It’s a totally bizarre shift to have your spouse home with your sick kids while you are at work when you’ve been home with them for so long.

tj, have you been to the doctor? I think that your hr is doing that due to dehydration, plus or minus infection. I’m sure some IV fluids would help a lot. I am sure that’s easier said than done, but your symptoms worry me. I hope you feel better soon. I’m glad E is doing better.

tj geez you poor thing! Please get some fluids & consider being seen by a dr. 😞 No other symptoms and he’s relatively perky otherwise. MH was able to work from home today so I could “go” to work. It’s remote, but I have a full day of orientation zoom meetings, etc.

To me, that's the biggest thing that has been better about this summer vs last summer. Last summer everything was unknown and you couldn't even go to empty playgrounds. This summer you can space out, be outside and do whatever you want. It's lovely.
