Oh and I showed up to aftercare today to pick up P and they were having snack about 6 inches apart. Like zero distance. As if they bunched them together. I don’t even know the teacher but blah. I suppose I should send an email.

Dangit, A was running a low fever tonight. Was totally fine all day and most of the evening, and then just snuggled hard on the couch and looked tired. It was close to bedtime, so we thought she was just a little extra tired, but I decided to take her temp, and sure enough, it was like 100.6°F. and then she passed out in like 2 min, which is unusual for her. So she prob has a virus of sorts.
We'll recheck her temp in the morning and use an at-home rapid test, but ugh I hate cold & flu season, especially during a stupid pandemic 😤

Is there a random non-COVID virus going around?? I just need to know there's a chance it's NOT COVID, and prob maybe just some normal, school-spread virus.
Just checked on her and she was awake and randomly giggling 😳 Checked her temp and one ear register at 102° and the other registered 100.8° 😭
Obvs not going to school tomorrow, but I'm super stressing over here

Absolutely! Everything is going around Bc we have all been separate for so long. Rsv, rhino/enterovirus, adenovirus, and strep throat are all going around right here. My kids have both had what appeared to be just the common cold since school started, twice. Just low grade fever, coughs and sniffles and sneezes. Chances are it is totally fine and normal non-covid school germs. You know all the things. You can alternate Tylenol and Motrin, you can give Zyrtec for congestion. You can give delsum for cough. Humidifier, throat pops, fluids, rest. If she gets a rash, scary high fever, blisters on hands, feet, or mouth, or is lethargic, call the doc ASAP. Take a breath.

Fingers crossed for her rugger that its just a quick virus. Definitely many other non-covid viruses going around! Hf&m is rampant here.

Fx for you, rugger! I was told by one of my doctors how bad RSV and similar, non-covid, viruses are right now. Hope she feels better quickly.

Thanks guys ❤️
No fever for A this morning, and a negative rapid test. Fingers crossed the fever doesn't come back this afternoon/evening. I forgot she has lacrosse today, so I guess that's not happening, either.

Well, we have decided to avoid all non-school indoor activities, indefinitely (not that we were doing many anyway). Not only do I not want my kids getting Covid, I don't want them having to do the quarantine thing after an exposure either because it is a nightmare. My friend's kids are going to end up missing 2+ weeks of school each, and neither have even tested positive - and they have been isolated from their sick mom. It doesn't make sense.

A and N both came home with runny noses yesterday. They either have to wait 10 days to go back or produce a negative pcr test. Guess we are going today to get tested. I assume they will catch every single cold bug around since they’ve always been home with me.

rhymeswithdisco I definitely support the school being cautious! But regarding a runny nose… neither of my kids would ever be able to attend in that case. 😅 I’d have to PCR them daily ha.

I’m getting so discouraged trying to connect with other homeschool families. Most are anti-mask and anti-vax. Someone posted in a local group about having a mask free hike and there was so much support for it. Im not surprised, just disappointed.

I am in full support of the way they are handling things and how cautious they are, etc. And this is more than just a little runny nose - it's a full on snot fest over here. Though I am sure they GOT this at school. It's just HARD figuring out how to do all of this as a single parent with a job. I have a flexible job, thankfully, but I am so behind now I can't afford to take a day off due to my workload.

Everyone was going through it and dealing with it. This year society is all, "eh, everyone who wants a vaccine has one and everyone else is an asshole." And parents are just left holding the bag. I'm so angry that the emergency pay for employees who have to quarantine is ending. And no one seems to care.

And last year everyone was remote or in masks, so there was little to no colds/etc going around. But at schools with no mask requirements kids are going to be subject to the same onslaught of viruses but now have to quarantine for every single one. And I'm just now realizing that Vermont's free and abundant testing for any reason is unusual in this country. I cannot imagine being a low income parent and having to choose between 10 days of no work and $160+ for a PCR (or doctor's appointment to administer the PCR). And then if you have multiple kids... It's all just a losing proposition for parents.

Last year, there were hardly any precautions. I’m noticing this year there are many more precautions and I feel like people aren’t as angry about them.

And a big ol' eff you to the conservatives who are all about "family values" and do nothing to actually support families. Because parents are too exhausted to actually advocate for themselves. Parents are one of the least politically active demographics, because when in the heck would we actually do that?
I'm sorry, I'm apparently feeling very ranty about people who talk out of their ass about things that don't actually affect them but make other people's struggle harder.

snowmoon I've been disappointed with the numbers of anti-maskers, especially in the homeschool community as well. It's like more people pulled their kids out of school to avoid wearing masks than pulled them out to avoid Covid for being or living with someone of high risk. That’s definitely the case here too, it seems.

It's like more people pulled their kids out of school to avoid wearing masks than pulled them out to avoid Covid for being or living with someone of high risk. I think this is absolutely true. At least down here it is. They made all this ruckus being so mad about having to wear masks, so the governor made it illegal to mandate masks. So everyone got sick and it ruined everything and they were mad about it. So they made it to where masks were “required” but you could opt out with religious exemptions. So they all said God and the constitution will protect them from covid, not a mask and they didn’t wear masks. And then they were in the minority. And then they were mad about it. So they quit public school and went to homeschool so they could not wear masks and they are still mad about it.

My (vaccinated) BIL went to a wedding in rural WA and apparently there was a COVID outbreak at the wedding. And then he and his wife felt like crap all week, so they're waiting on PCR results. 😣

And it spurred a second outbreak because one infected attendee worked at a daycare where the kids got it right before heading to school. Which caused a bunch of classrooms to have to quarantine right at the beginning of the year. And then I just heard that the bride’s family are trying to sue her (I don’t know on what grounds). It’s a hot mess.

I wrote and the lady wrote back something along the lines of "we had just come inside and the little kids were all very hot and hungry and thirsty so we didn't get the tables moved". And went on to explain that they will have assigned eating seats moving forward and utilize an empty classroom. I thanked her for all her hard work cuz I probably wasn't very understanding in my initial email. Mostly I'm doing the pointy eye thing at them. Cuz that's not really a reason. Kids can eat on the rug, floor, outside at all the picnic tables...and these aren't toddlers. They can wait a moment. Pointy eye.

It took 4 weeks of teaching at a "masks recommended" school for me to get breakthrough covid. I got a really faint positive on a rapid test last night, so I camped out in the far bedroom and everyone left me alone and I got the best sleep I've had in a long time. I got a much stronger positive this morning. As a precaution, my husband went to the library to get more rapid tests so we could test everyone and everyone except N was negative. He got a faint positive, so now I'm trapped in the room with my 7 year old. Boo.
But seriously, if this is the worst thing I have to deal with, we're good. Neither of us really have symptoms aside from me having a headache, but I had one already from the teaching. My sinuses are burning, but that's also par for the allergy course. We have easy access to rapid tests here so I test weekly because of the school environment I'm in. I wouldn't have suspected otherwise. I'm glad we have access to tests. N and I are isolating as much as we can, and everyone will stay home from everything until we all test negative. I'm just drinking various things throughout the day to make sure I still have a sense of taste.

I’m sorry you got the ‘vid violajack but great job catching it early and isolating ASAP! I’ve had it twice myself and I also work in children’s covid research. If you have any questions let me know. Take it easy (it can take a long time to fully get over) rest up and feel better soon.
