Well fuck. I hope it was an error. I got Pfizer in March/April. I'm wondering if when it's booster time for me in December if I should ask for Moderna. If that's allowed? Pfizer is still considered the best vaccine out there ATM (not that the others are awful or you shouldn't get them). And there are always individuals who have poor immune responses to certain vaccines. A friend of mine has had one of the hepatitis vaccines 4 times and still shows no antibodies for it. In other words, just bc your friend doesn't have antibodies doesn't mean you have to worry. Maybe ask your Dr to check for your reassurance? Agreed. DH cannot retain immunity for measles. He was revaccinated when in 2019 and needs another now. He had and still has immunity to mumps and rubella 🤷🏼♀️

I have to admit I have mixed feelings about this. Good for them for taking a stand and making a point, but denying someone a Covid test (especially if she's symptomatic) seems... ethically iffy?

I've told this story on these boards many times but, if it helps: the vaccines work for the vast majority of the population. "Vast majority " means that some people will not develop the appropriate antibodies. This happened to my son, and he repeated a bunch of his childhood vaccinescand then showed appropriate titers. It was a fluke. Him being a statistical outlier did not indicate a flaw in the vaccines, it just indicated that his immune system acted weird for a little while. Your friend was most likely a statistical outlier. You should feel just as confident in your vaccine as you did yesterday. Yeah, I KNOW that logically. I was just shocked to find out that was the case for her. They did tell her she was the first patient they have had like that. Which was reassuring for me but not probably not helpful for her. I’m sorry that happened to your DS and hope everything took when he redid it. ETA: I reread that and it sounds snotty on my part. I appreciate your anecdote. I’m calmer now. I was just freaked out when I heard because it’s not a possibility that I had thought about it. Stories like your friend's hit differently when it's someone you know, I get it. And yeah DS is all good now but I plan to have him tested for antibodies after his covid vaccine just to be sure, ha.

If that's the case, then I'm fine with it, but there's no information one way or another in that tweet or email.

Communication and planning from the SI has been terrible, but it sounds like there will be random testing at schools in our district to be implemented in the next few weeks, FX. The testing is optional (hopefully most will opt in!) and I have some questions (like if a kid is sick at school, giving them a rapid test before they are sent home or they can stay if it's negative is the plan- I'm assuming this would be for like minor stuffy nose symptoms?? then why would they be sent home?? rapids aren't always reliable??) but I like the way the asymptotic group testing sounds. Better than nothing.

Quoting myself to say I guess kids are getting sent home for runny noses (news to me!) and no other symptoms, which surprises me because we have to fill out a daily health screener and runny/stuffy nose is not included. A rapid test makes more sense in that case I guess, but again, only partially reliable and we know symptoms in kids can be minor.

I'm fairly certain she doesn't live in Colorado and travels frequently for appearances, so it was my first thought.

Talked to our pediatrician yesterday (appt) and he mentioned they're expected vaccine approval in the next couple of weeks for kids age 9-12. That was new to me! I tried to research but the only thing I could find was from June (which seems so long ago especially with this always changing so quickly), and it mentioned Dr. Fauci talking about de-escalation for children vaccines in different age groups, 15-12, 12-9, 9-6, 6-3, 3-6 months. Anyone else hear something similar? Maybe doc was going off older info?? Since I have a 10 year old I would absolutely love this to be true but I also don't buy it. I don't think anyone has any idea when to expect kid vaccines and this has turned into the worst game of telephone ever.

Ugh, my 8MO would never be allowed at daycare if clear runny nose wasn't allowed. But also I did see a chart showing runny nose as a common symptom in kids now (I don't know if it is usually accompanied by other symptoms or not). UGH.

My toddler got sent home from daycare with a clear runny nose and no other symptoms on Friday last week. Of course I rushed him to the pediatrician and she said, It's a cold. Send him back on Monday. It's a weird time to be alive right now.

A lot of kids were sent home for headaches at DS’s school over the past two weeks. Which, it was 95 degrees and pollen season is in full force, so kids will have headaches this time of year. Basically, if a kid is feeling unwell enough to complain a lot or ask to be sent to the nurse, they are being sent home and need to get tested to return. I assume the school is just trying to be extra careful to avoid outbreaks since Delta is such a sneaky bastard.

I’m still really hoping soon rather than later for vaccines in the 5-12 group. However I was contacted today for additional openings in the Pfizer study. I’m not sure how far along they are or if they’re getting more kids in the study per the FDA request but I feel like I’m getting my hopes up.

My kid is home for the third day because of allergies 🥴
Literally tested him three days in a row, but because he’s coughing (not a dry cough) he’s out.
On the one hand it’s annoying, but at the same time I’d rather they err on the side of safety

DD2's PCR test finally came back and it was negative. Of course she's still home because her fever came back. But at least DD1 is back at school.

During our PreK orientation they said our district is requesting kids stay home if they frequently have to remove their masks to blow or wipe their nose. Which makes sense when I think about it, but could make for a long year. It's also a lot of the reason my middle DD will probably stay home again tomorrow.

OMG a lady just posted on my local FB page a rant about the local grocery store... she said she ordered pick up since she just testes positive for covid. But they didn't have everything she wanted so she parked and went in and got it all. Even though she knows she is covid positive. What the hell is wrong with people 😡 I've been going in to get groceries alone now that my kids are in school but I think I'm going to go back to pick up now. Freaking assholes.

I mean I just assume half the people in the grocery store have covid and act accordingly. Also why I went back to kn95s at the grocery store. I just couldn’t

And I get it but also…we have three negative tests, no fever and no known exposure!! And yes everyone is masked. He’s missed his best friend’s birthday (they do cupcakes) and his first piano lesson and drama class.

Also the school is just really not fucking around in general.
There were 4 sixth graders who tested positive the first week and they quarantined the entire grade because they all eat and have recess at the same time.

At some point we have to stop saving them from their stupidity and let natural selection take its course.

Our lovely governor finally had a press conference today and when asked if she would recommend masks for school children since cases are skyrocketing she replied that "it doesn't really matter" because the mask mandate ban is a law.
And now she posted on her Facebook page an opinion piece article about the dangers of children wearing masks. This woman is a menace.
My favorite local Qamom is all up in the comments about just wait and see, if they mandate masks then they will mandate vaccines! Soon they will be invading our schools and force vaccinating our kids without our knowledge or permission! And her BFF is running for school board which is horrifying.

That garbage piece by Vinay Prasad? I can't believe the Atlantic published that shit. He blocked me on Twitter. I literally asked him two normal questions Getting blocked by him is a thing. I didn't actually harass him.
