I mean, like what though? Bomb every cave in Kunar and Nuristan again? Financial ops? Because that worked so well for us in recent years? I just. We are supposed to be leaving - and we are leaving knowing Afghanistan will be a tolerant environment for international terror groups. We are leaving knowing Afghanistan will not be a safe place for so many we promised to help. Sorry, I’m spamming negativity in here today. Biden is saying what he can say, and is saying the things a commander in chief should say. I am glad for small mercies that I don’t have to hear trump’s voice today. My old work friends from AFG and I have a group chat. Someone in there said that today felt like they finally lost their voice after screaming warnings for years. The only thing that stood out to me is that when Biden said that we have an obligation to gold star families, I actually believed him. Unlike Trump. Otherwise, yeah.

Afghanistan is a perfect storm of bullshit lke rona. There are no good answers. Everything has a downside. You make decisions knowing there will be a price for everything.
I told MH maybe it's because of all the domestic stuff the last few years, if I'd been paying attention perhaps this wouldn't be such a shock? I just didn't realize how this would end. Watching Afghanistan fall to the Taliban feels really traumatic. I mean this is just plain tragic. And it's all the the context of the generational trauma that was 9/11. Again, as we've said before, what even was the point of the last 20 years of conflict to have this be the end?
What a mess.

Watching Erin Burnett, the death toll of US troops is up to 13 now. CNN posted a video of the area just after the explosion and it is devastating. Thankfully, they are putting and verbalizing graphic content warnings over with some time to react.

So… We’re at war again? (But not really of course, just bombing “precision targets”). I don’t get it. I honestly can’t take in another national crisis. Wtf, man. Just wtf.

MVP canceled her trip here to stump for Gavin’s recall. I’m sure it’s all hands on deck right now but that also makes me nervous.

Again, as we've said before, what even was the point of the last 20 years of conflict to have this be the end? What a mess. There is a deeply, deeply entrenched belief in this town that America can solve all the world's problems if we just throw enough money and artillery at it. A lot of it is arrogance, but a lot of it is also the fact that people make billions of dollars off of this belief and the policy it drives. I wouldn't have expected a politician of Biden's generation to take the contradictory position but I'm glad he did. We have to stop playing democracy cowboy. That does not, of course, mean turning a blind eye to human rights abuses or terrorism.

Woof. At least it wasn't Russia? The German publisher is of a conservative leaning nature. I always thought Springer as more left-leaning? They've got tons of sub-publishers in various areas, though, do maybe it also depends on that.

They're not left but they're not like Fox News Right. *Their flagship newspaper "Die Welt" is about as liberal as a moderate American Democrat. They've gotten heat for having an "American Bias" but Americans shouldn't have a problem with that. They tend to be a bit more conservative but that's for German sensibilities where things like dispossession of property are brought up by mainstream politicians. I don't think the deal deserves a "woof". *Obviously you know this crimsonandclover, just for the Americans who don't.

Axel Springer's main newspaper is considered conservative in Germany but Germany and the German press is overall very liberal. Axel Springer also has tons of random magazines and newspapers that aren't really political. I personally wouldn't worry about this business deal.

I saw a video of a little girl who got separated from her parents and I just can't stop thinking about it. So many innocent kids, babies...😭😭 My heart just hurts for them. I wish I could just magically help them all.

I wish I could just magically help them all. It’s really hard. I’ve had to kind of put blinders on and I feel bad about that but it’s very difficult to see it all and feel so very helpless. Protect your peace, friend.
