Here's a thread for talking drinking alcohol mindfully, less, or not at all.

I've been alcohol free for a total of 6 months of this year and it has been amazing. I will be drinking some during my vacation time next week and I'm ok with that.

Congratulations on an amazing accomplishment! I’m so happy you’re at such a good place in your relationship with alcohol. It’s not an easy place to get to!

I stayed out of the July thread because it was my vacation and I was drinking so didn’t want to share much, but read and followed and cheered you on. I drank during the vacation but only got ‘drunk’ once when I had two drinks at our anniversary dinner. I’m good with that. Had wine with my friends and family but stopped after one glass. I will probably take August off to settle again and see where I go from there, but was pleased.

Hey, I'm here for mindful drinking. H and I stopped drinking for a couple of weeks because he was having some health stuff and we cut out sugar and alcohol to see if it was related. It was not, but we both realized that cutting alcohol was not the big deal we had expected it to be. Which was a nice realization. He still hasn't gone back to it, but I have had a glass of wine a couple of times over the last two weeks. I actually don't think I'm getting much out of it other than the ritual of pouring a glass of wine.

Yeah the ritual of pouring a drink while cooking dinner or after putting DS to bed was the biggest part for me. I didn’t realize that’s what I was hooked on more than what was in the glass. I like to put sparkling water with a splash of cranberry juice and a lime wedge in a wine glass or highball glass to satisfy the ritual feeling.
H and I have also gotten really in to NA beers this summer. It’s funny because a couple of friends who drink have also been getting in to them just to try and cut back on alcohol. Everyone keeps saying it’s so exciting to have more than Odouls as options now. Some of them are really good. It’s nice to have something just hit the spot on a hot day but not have to deal with any hangover stuff.

I had a fully dry January and then life got crazy and I fell off the wagon. I'm trying to jump back on and while I don't plan to give it up completely, I want to be very mindful of how much I am drinking. jaygee , I definitely think the ritual is part of it and I have started to do something similar. I have a fancy elderflower tonic that I enjoy in the evenings and it hits the spot. Is it the Fever Tree tonic? That's exactly what we have been using for the "ritual" and it's great! Good for sipping and there are a few different flavors we enjoy. Their ginger beer is very good.

It's actually the Belvoir Sparkling Elderflower in cans that I buy from Amazon. It's stupid expensive, but I really love it and figuring how much I normally spend on alcohol, it's worth it. I do buy the Fever Tree Tonic's as well and the even the sparkling grapefruit drink. Oo I'll have to try that one. Fever Tree is stupid expensive, too. But worth it!

Today is another Day 1 as I go back to being dry after 5 days of vacation drinks. I had too much on the 2nd night and felt shitty the next day. So hi and I'm glad to be back in here!

Congrats tookie and FlightView for the streaks! I have been still drinking very rarely since 5/3. I think I last posted in July that I would be having two weeks vacation (dh was off two weeks), and would be drinking then. Well week one was end of iuly and I had a drink with lunch two times. Then first week of august we went to dinner outside once and I had two cocktails. It was ok but I didn’t really finish the second because it was just really alcohol tasting if that makes sense, and it just was thick almost with cherry liqueur and blah. But I felt sluggish the next day from the two. So I drank way way less on vacation that I expected which is great for me. I think it will be awhile until I have more. I still haven’t had any alcohol in the house since 5/3. I feel like that’s helping a lot. I never used to drink a lot at all, just weddings parties fancy dinners etc. few times a year maybe. Once I started bringing it home and drinking in the house at night is when it became too much, just grab a drink it’s right there. Lovely to see everyone still here, Pink it’s great to see you as usual. Dh hardy ever drinks so at least I don’t have him drinking here making it harder. Have a wonderful day everyone 💐

Also I’ve been seeing Heinekin 0 on menus lately and it’s nice to see. They taste the same really.
And here in Ma they have the thc seltzer but up on Maine they have a locally brewed beer in no alcohol form and they infuse that with thc. I had one it was just like a beer. No bad news. If anyone is wondering.

I’ve been feeling guilty because I said last month I would give my list of quit lit and I never did. That’s how my brain works. Lol. donnamoss I think you were interested and also wanted to check to see how you were doing. Books: This Naked Mind Sober Diaries (TW: cancer plot line) A Happier Hour Quit Like a Woman I haven’t read but it’s on my list: We are the Luckiest Podcasts: This Naked Mind (particularly the episodes where she interviews newly sober people - I love a good personal story) Home - this is the old podcast of Holly Whitaker (quit like a woman) and Laura McKowen (we are the luckiest). It was old even when I found it a couple years ago, but the content was still really good Melissa Urban’s podcast Do the Thing - this isn’t strictly about alcohol free but Melissa stopped drinking awhile back and kind of weaves it in a lot of her content. She has a couple episodes specifically about not drinking and she interviews Holly in one. It’a funny you mention specifically the personal stories on the This Naked Mind podcast. Those are my least favorite. I really especially love her earlier episodes that were talking about how she approached being alcohol free. Just goes to show that there is really something out there for everyone and different things hit us all in different ways!

I finally tried some different NA beers. Lagunitas IPNA and Upside Dawn from Athletic Brewing Company. I thought the Lagunitas was gross but the upside dawn is pretty good! I think I’ll try their “IPA” next.

We got fresh herbs like basil, mint and rosemary to add to our soda waters.
I have a lemon spindrift with fresh mint and a wedge of lemon over ice. So good.

I think I’ll try their “IPA” next. The liquor store around the corner started carrying the Athletic Brewing ones. I've been keeping them stocked in my fridge for the days when I want to relax with a "beer" after work. I also tried a new brand - Well Being - over the weekend which was also really good.
