My 13 month old starts preschool next week and they want everything labeled. I keep getting IG ads for different companies that sell custom labels but are they worth it? Am I better off labeling things with a Sharpie? How do you label tagless clothes? When she was in the NICU I had to draw directly on the inside neck part of her onesies with Sharpie and it seemed like there should be a better way. I've never been asked to label my son's stuff because he's in a 3-6yo room and they can keep track of their own stuff.

I bought label daddy labels and they are adorable. I never used them (yet) though because our daycare didn't need them and then kinder was virtual. They had a variety of types for clothes or other surfaces. But they seem very well made even though I've never actually stuck them to anything.

I bought a pack of labels from an IG ad. They came with iron on labels for clothes and washed well all year. I thought they were worth it and I still have plenty to use for another school year.

I use a combo of sharpie, iron on labels, and sticky labels depending on the surface. I order personalized ones from here www.lovablelabels.ca/

I get our labels from sticky monkey labels. I use those on non clothes items and sharpie initials in clothes. Daycare wants every separate piece of each item labeled, so we use a lot.
I did last name only until another family of no relation started at our daycare and their kid was in my kid’s room. I switched to initials then lol

Love namebubbles.
We have the dishwasher safe ones for bottles and food containers and the slick on clothing ones too. Those labels last years and still come off easily when you need them to.

Namebubbles. They’ve held up fantastically over the years and only fall off cause my kids pick at them.

Mabel’s labels stickers, and I’m getting a stamp after a doing a trial run last year with stickers that said “Lastname Family” instead of the kid’s individual name. It’s great for items like lunch containers, hats, mitts, etc that the kids share. Also means I’ll have to do less sticker replacement as they hand down clothes to each other.

I use the name bubbles ones and put them on the care tag of clothing. The items I’ve put them on that go through the dishwasher last for years.

I love the idea of doing the last name! Ours is very uncommon so I have no worries about same-name families.

I use stickers because our kids pass down clothes or they go to cousins/friends/donations. We use these (French brand so not linking) I’ve been labeling the twins’ stuff since birth because it also helped their daycare.

Thanks for the recommendations! I just made a Mabel's order. I ended up also getting some of the preschool shoe labels for DS- he still mixes up the right and left shoe a lot so hopefully those help.

One time one of the sheets in my order was not cut all the way through and they replaced it with no questions asked and let me keep the messed up sheet (which I could use half of with no issues).

Mabels labels I’m about to order new ones in fact with just our last name on them for lunch boxes, etc. The last name only is great, we started doing that this summer too. Grab a water bottle, any water bottle will do! To answer OP’s question we do a combo of name bubble small round clothing label stickers (I use them for water bottles, bento boxes, pool towels, and jackets - they stay on in the dishwasher even though they say clothing in the description), and a sharpie paint pen. I try to use stickers only in items that can be passed down. For daycare, I put extra outfits in ziplock bags and wrote my kid’s name on the bag and not the individual items.
