I've mentioned briefly before that I have had a lot of issues with super heavy bleeding during my periods. I've tried multiple birth controls that gave me bad side effects (e.g., full on rage, depression, and the like) and the one that worked is no longer covered by my insurance (fuck insurance). Our last attempt to control this was Lysteda, which is a non-hormonal pill that reduces bleeding. My bleeding was indeed better, but it gives me HORRENDOUS cramps.
So, I've been messaging with my NP And we think it's time to talk ablation. MH and I are 100% done having kids and he's had a vasectomy. The only reason for birth control is my crazy bleeding. I have a long and well documented history with my provider about all the issues so we *think* we can get the procedure covered by insurance.
I'm calling tomorrow to schedule a surgical consult and I'd love to hear from others who have had an ablation. Did it work well for you? What was recovery like (I had a uterine biopsy because my lining is abnormally thick and they told me it would be "like period cramps" and I was on my ass for 2 days so I want to know, like, really what should I expect)? How long was your recovery? Also, I'd like to do it in the doctor's office versus going to the hospital...is that a mistake?
Anything you can share would be appreciated as I start this process! TIA!

You can try a search on the board. I’m pretty sure there’s been a recent thread about this. I had an ablation in 2016, I think? My gyn wanted me to go under for it, so I did. Minimal pain after. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. My periods get lighter the further away I get from the surgery. They didn’t disappear like I hoped, but I now have a normal period instead of my previous bloodbath.

I had one in 2019. Very simple outpatient procedure for me. I had some discomfort that afternoon and took the next day off of work, but I could've gone to work (desk job). I don't do well with anesthesia, but that's just me and was really my only side effect. My periods are definitely lighter, but they aren't gone like I was hoping for!

I'm so glad recovery was quick and easy for you. Did you have to do anything to prepare for the procedure?

I am 5 months out from having had surgery. I took the day after off as well and needed it but that was more because of being put under, like pp, I don't do well coming out from being under.
I have not a period since having it done and the cramps I used to have are almost nonexistent now. Before the cramps would knock me on my ass for a few days. Now I have maybe an hour of discomfort and then it's gone.

I got one right before the pan de queso and it's the best thing I ever did, health care wise.
I took a day off for the procedure and the day after but then was fine. I'm one of the lucky ones who hasn't had a period since and I only cramp very occasionally now. Before it was the movie Carrie and feeling like someone was running over my lower half with their car.
And I think I've probably been in every thread since I did it because I'm so happy I did 😂

I got mine in 2019 and I haven't had a period since. I had mine in an outpatient facility and went under. I wore a pantyliner for a day or two, and just took it easy. Had mine on a Friday and was back at work on Monday. It was pretty easy peasy.

Lurker here...I had mine done about 3 years ago and it has been a godsend. The procedure was easy and I was back to normal life the next day. Just a little tired after the procedure. No bleeding at all, which is great! I do have cramps/bloating once or twice a year, but overall it's been fantastic.

I’m about 3 months out from mine. I’m glad I did it and would do it again. For me, the procedure was painful, but I have a wonky sensitive uterus that has been through a lot. NovaSure was the one we used and, so far, it had done exactly what I hoped for - minimal or no bleeding, no cramping, and less migraines around my bleeding time.

I was just diagnosed with adenomyosis and am waiting for a referral to talk about treatment, but I see ablation as one of the options. I’m thankful for this thread and those who shared their experiences! I am also overwhelmed by how many different techniques there are to perform an ablation. I had no idea.

If it makes you feel better, I have no idea what kind of ablation technique I had. I gather it's what the provider is most comfortable with so you probably don't need to make that decision on your own.

I had mine done at the end of May. I had some serious blood pressure issues in recovery otherwise it would have been simple. Intense cramping after but nothing unmanageable. The next day I was fine and didn't even need a pad. I haven't had a period since. Good luck
