Yeah, I took my mask off at Target this summer. I walked in with a mask and it was dead empty. I was like, fuck this, I’m getting a coffee and walking slow AF up and down every aisle. It was wonderful.

What is this sorcery that is an uncrowded Target? They're always full parking lots, waiting in lines to check out. Ours have been dead also. Like two lanes open to checkout. Honestly I’ve felt very comfortable up until recently because nowhere is crowded and Delta wasn’t bending us over That's crazy. Minnesotans love their Targets. I go many times each week.

Are you guys going into stores that are very crowded? When I run into Target, it's usually pretty empty and no one is getting within 6 feet of us. Maybe for 1 second if I happen to pass someone in an aisle but I try to avoid doing that. I also don't take my kids a lot of places so I'm not running into it a lot. Of course with Delta, everything is going to be changing I feel, so I'll be back to not really taking them in anywhere again. The stores I frequent are always crowded no matter when I go. I can’t win. Lol

The Pfizer CEO was on Andy Slavitt's podcast recently and when asked directly about ages 5-11, he said they thought they'd have data "after summer." I've read elsewhere they said they said having data in "late September" in some shareholder reports. It's taken about a month for FDA EUA approval after having the data. I'm hoping for somewhere between late Sept-late Oct to actually be able to walk in and get a first Pfizer shot for that age range. But we shall see. There was an article in the past day or two that echoed that but said there is a chance due to the heart issues in kids, it may be pushed out another month or two. In which case, under 5 would be early 2022. I will see if I can find it. These statements were both made after the news about the expanded requirements from the FDA. So fingers crossed.

Now Texas people let’s talk about places that gave me a panic attack recently:
Bucee’s in Madisonville.
Holy shit. I would have felt safer on Main Street in Disney World on NYE,

I was going to the gym for half of the year wearing two masks because at one point we were told one mask wasn’t enough to protect us from Covid. Like, what happened to that? I’m laughing/crying upon rereading, because Dr. Cox and I both used “genuinely confused” to describe our opposite stances. It turns out pandemics are nothing if not confusing.

I really miss Target (read: browsing the aisles at Target and buying 75% items I had no intention of getting when I entered the store). But yeah, the ones in my 50-mile radius are always packed to the gills.

Preschool is only doing masks when the kids leave their classroom because the kids get the masks wet, constant touching so it’s “not working anyway” I’m thinking of sending ds3 in his mask anyway. My kids' preschool did this. They work masks outside of the classroom and when they were playing outside. I will say that the 5 year old's mask was covered in spit and disgusting every day so there were times I questioned was it even doing anything for him. He’s 3 and his masks get damp like 5 seconds into wearing it

I swear I was reading something about the expanded trials for kids and that it's really the 2-5 that's taking more time than the 5-11.
And that heart issues will pop up in the first few days post-vaccine, so at least in the trials, they should know sooner than the full duration of the trial if the heart issues are an increased worry across the larger population.

That’s the timeline my Pfizer rep guy has told me, and he’s been generally spot on with his info so far. He said he went from hoping he’d be vaxxing my kids in July originally (before they were asked for a broader study for kids) to early October.

Our pediatrician said today that she heard some unofficial news that we could see vaccines for the younger kids at the end of August. She knows the trial doctors at our hospital so I'm going to lean into this info I have a source that is hinting at the same thing here. I am afraid to be hopeful but holy fuck, so hopeful.

I did a Twin Cities tour last night trying to get a BinaxNow test. Mpls to Bloomington to West St. Paul and back home again. I should've stopped at the IGH Target!

Yeah, that tracks. Pfizer is saying data by late September and then we wait for the FDA to approve. They've been taking about a month but it's possible they take longer and it's into November. Not to say that Pfizer isn't being conservative in their public statements and couldn't finish up data slightly earlier. But for shots in arms to happen in late August, they'd have to have the data like now.

Last spring when people were booking all their plans cause they would be vaccinated, I would say "but the kids are not?"
I was told I was doing too much and it didn't affect kids as much.
I always was in the "but they can still get it." Now a variant came and people are "omg my kids." I don't say anything. I just sit silent.
I'm talking about people I know local to me. Not anyone here.
