I still can’t get vaxxed and we are in lockdown because of delta. Yep. Still worries for sure.

If the location is not asking for birth certificate to prove age of a 12 year old, the whole location is at fault, not just the person giving the shot following their locations protocols That's not how it works, per the lady who knows how it works. I am so tired lately and I can't stop laughing at this.

Our hospitals are full without COVID, we've had 30 patients on ED hold each day I've worked waiting 48+ hours for a room. I'm not mentally stable enough to handle another COVID surge, it will break me. The COVID denial all around me is just wearing me down. Hi friend, I know we’ve talked about this before but if you aren’t already talking to a counselor/therapist please don’t wait. I didn’t take enough action before things got really bad for me mentally and physically, I don’t want anyone to experience that if it’s avoidable. And please reach out to me anytime if you want to vent/cuss/cry whatever. That goes for anyone

Nonniedee that school situation sounds amazing and safe. I wish more could be like that! I read NYC has committed to ensuring every school has 2 air filters (?) by August, my jealousy knows no bounds

So many “unknown” risks yet so many actual and known risks of COVID. Such a hard choice.

Nonniedee that school situation sounds amazing and safe. I wish more could be like that! I read NYC has committed to ensuring every school has 2 air filters (?) by August, my jealousy knows no bounds We’re the suburbs of NYC but we follow the city for most things. We put in a crazy filtration system during the school year. Legit, we opted to do all of our normal fundraisers but the money went to the filtration system. We have a similar daily screening as Nonnie, it’s attached to a badge that our kid uses to swipe into school. If you don’t do the daily screening, your kid is pulled aside and screened before they can enter. We also do regular testing in-school, temp checks, etc. My kids were in-school from September to June without a single in-class positive and they didn’t spend a day in quarantine. They were aggressive with their measures and I never worried a minute about my kids in-school. They announced back in the spring that kids would wear masks this upcoming year. I haven’t heard differently but if they did change it, I would feel comfortable because I think all of their decisions have been well thought out, so far. There have been a number of questionable things in how NY handled Covid, but our response to schools should really be a benchmark for other states.

I am not in a good head place at all. H is much more risk taking as I am so he’s okay with anything but large indoor events or outdoor ones where we can’t distance. I’d like to keep our bubble and activities small since I don’t know everyone’s vax status. I know DS1 will br full time in the fall, it’s just a matter of if he’ll be required to mask. I have to keep yelling at him though for improperly wearing it because everyone around him wears it wrong he says at school. And that he hates breathing on himself. Sensory issues with this suck. They really do. I'm essentially a mouth-breather (haha I know), especially since gaining 50 COVID lbs. I tend to breathe whatever kind of mask I am wearing straight into my mouth, which is unpleasant. I obviously wore a mask wherever required before the mandate was lifted, but I was never one of those people who was like "I don't get what the issue is, I don't even notice it, it literally has no effect on your life!". I definitely noticed it, but I was also someone who ripped the oxygen mask off during childbirth because I HATE having my face covered.

How are you guys dealing with travel right now? We have a 9 Day trip to Chicago and NYC planned for end of September, which I know is forever away in Covid time, but I am starting to get nervous. It is our 15th anniversary and we already changed from Europe to staying state-side.
What do you even do if you get Covid while on vacation? We are vaxed, but seems to me a lot of vaxed people are getting the Delta variant and I worry about being stuck somewhere :/

If it’s any reassurance, I am getting tested weekly, multiple times a week sometimes, because of the fertility stuff. They told me they haven’t seen positives in forever. So, while we’re hearing about an uptick and breakthrough cases, the numbers (in most places) are still relatively low compared to what we have seen for the past year. I just need you to keep sending me reassuring messages and anecdotes like these so I don’t spiral. And if someone could tell my sister’s MIL to get fucking vaccinated, that’d be great!! are y'all in the same area?

I will be bummed if I have to teach in a mask this coming year. If medical professionals and my workplace tell me it is necessary to keep the kids safe, I’ll do it. But then the CDC says no, and the AAP says yes… sigh. And I was looking forward to releasing the five year old from the mask once they can get vaccinated.

We still mask up even though TX and no one else seems to be. My kids will be in person next year, but we’ve already talked to both about how they have to wear masks. DD1 (5th grade) has already said she wants to wear a mask anyway. DD1 (Kinder) will be a bit more of a challenge but she’s a good mask wearer overall.
Delta scares me.

We stayed in hotels, ate out at restaurants during non peak times and visited tourist attractions masked (mostly national park visitor centers where outside we were distances and unmasked). We’ve been very cautious this entire time and felt pretty good almost every where we went, Chicago included.

You have the added layer of being vaxed. The variant is more contagious but most vaxxed people haven't gotten severely ill or hospitalized.
G forbid you get sick, I assume you would have to shelter in place. With you being vaxed it shouldn't be that severe or that long.
Only you can decide your risk/reward factors.

Call me silly but goal for me was and is, not to get COVID-19. I just need that to be clear. I read otherwise and feel 😳 The universal goal was that, esp the vaccine’s goal. Of course many people’s goal was to avoid it completely. Mine is. But realistically at some point the majority of the world will have it. Just hopefully it won’t be so deadly.

But that wasn’t the goal of the vaccine. That’s what I was referring to. A number of people reminded me the other day that the goal of the vax wasn’t to not get Covid, it was to avoid death/hospitalization. So when I was in a panic about breakthrough cases, they reminded me to focus on that.

We definitely are still worried and continue to mask and socially distance while fully vaccinated. My kids are too young still and I'm dreading the fall when I'm sure they'll be in the minority wearing masks. Any time I go into a store, I just look around at all the unmasked people and think, now I know not all you assholes are fully vaccinated.

Y'all is plural. It doesn't just me y'all in this thread. It could mean it's us and y'all. I speak for us and what we are doing. Outside of that is y'all. I posted what it feels to me. I didn't speak to what anyone in this thread is doing or not.

Call me silly but goal for me was and is, not to get COVID-19. I just need that to be clear. I read otherwise and feel 😳 Same here. MH and I are still masking everywhere we go indoors and outdoors (and more and more are rare unicorns in that regard as masks went out the window when the mandate was lifted). We still do almost exclusively curbside or carry out. Along with grocery pick up. On the two occasions post-Covid where we have traveled, we stayed in a cabin completely separate from others. We scope out a store or restaurant before setting foot in it. Too many people? We opt out. It’s not worth it. Because not dying or not being hospitalized or not getting “that sick” from this isn’t the goal for me either. Not getting it PERIOD is the goal for me and mine. Because none of us knows nor will we know for many, many years, the full ramifications of COVID. For even “mild” asymptotic cases. Every person I know personally who has had this are still feeling the effects, more than a year later, even though none of them felt that awful. And numbers and % don’t mean all that much to me. Not if the person standing next to me is unvaccinated and has it.

When you read the covid vaccine submission from Pfizer and moderna, the goal was "to prevent covid-19 in individuals 16 years of age or older." verbatim J&J's goal was to prevent hospitalization and death on their paper work. I know you may just be speaking in broad theory here. I just need to say for my peace of mind Pfizer and Moderna according to their paper work was going for prevention.
