My anxiety is increasing the closer we get to surgery. I know I can't be fully prepared but I need some help brainstorming food ideas. I'll list somethings below and let me know if you have any add ons.
ice cream yogurt pudding applesauce mashed potatoes mac n cheese cooked small pasta with alfredo sauce (i feel like red sauce might bother his incisions) steamed carrots refried beans avocado bananas smoothies peas jello scrambled eggs rice? I need to check on this. i think i read somewhere that the rice could get stuck in his stitches
Things to avoid: bread - it can get stuck on the roof of his mouth peanut butter soft cheeses chips or anything sharp or crunchy nothing spicy no citrus

my girlfriend made those little pastina noodle things, I'm not sure if that's what they are called, but you know what I mean? Her daughter had those with a little melted butter before she was able to have much solid food. I'd be careful with the mac and cheese and alfredo sauce at first - those are both thick sauces that might be hard. Other that that she lived on those yogurt smoothie things, soup, and smoothies.
I would avoid rice, I don't know why but I feel like it would be hard on him.
you have mashed potatoes on there, but what about mashed sweet potatoes?
Will he still eat a pouch? That's probably an easy way to get some nutrients in.
Freeze smoothies into popsicles (or just buy popsicles lol) - that'll probably feel good on his throat
When he is able to start incorporating slightly more food, maybe soft pancakes?
I think you have a good amount of options on here.

jewels I know what pastina noodles are, but are you talking about like a premade thing or something? Or she would just buy that pasta and put butter in it?

Just bought that pasta and put butter on it. I forgot to tell you that I did speak with her about her daughter's surgery - she had a bunch more stuff at the same time than H will - so her recovery might have been different. But at first, when it was really nothing solid, a full pasta noddle was just too hard, she only had those little pastinas they were easier for her to swallow. eventually she "graduated" to regular noodles, but still just butter and parmesan cheese, no real sauce for a little longer.

You've got a great list. Initially, I'd probably just start with smoothies, pouches, soup, ice cream, applesauce--that kind of stuff. Maybe have some protein shakes on hand if he'd eat those. Or drinks like Gatorade. I think Pedialyte might make a whole array of that stuff now and not just their nasty "juice" stuff.
Different surgery obviously, but I had jaw surgery when I was a teen and could only eat soft foods for a while. Initially the more liquid-based ones like mentioned above were all I could eat. By the second week after surgery I moved onto the thicker solids like pastas. He may not be that hungry at first either or feel a bit nauseous for a few days due to the meds.
I totally understand your anxiety. You are a rock star mom. Your boy is such a sweetie and I know this will be hard an both of you but I'm hoping and praying it makes a substantial difference in his life.

Will sucking on something like pouches be ok? I know with tooth removal you need to avoid straws/suction so I didn’t know if it was similar. How about creamed spinach, grits, softened Cheerios maybe? Peas, boiled carrots, cooked apples with cinnamon and sugar like a pie filling.

As someone who just had a soft foods diet I would also recommend the mini ravioli from chef boyardi(spelling is really off I know). They virtually disintegrated in my mouth was needed for chewing. It at least gave me the sensation of real food.
