I need help deciding on appetizers. Main course is BBQ with Mac & cheese, green beans, potato salad. Dessert is cake.
For appetizers so far, people are bringing: - Chips & queso & salsa - Veggie tray
I have about 4 more people who are willing to bring apps/party snacks but I need to tell them what to bring. Preferably something not too terribly work-intensive, as I don’t want to impose. Suggestions have been meatballs or potato chips w/a cream dip. A watermelon tray maybe?
Please hit me with some yummy app/party snack ideas I can assign. I appreciate it!
*disclaimer attendees are vaccinated and it will be outdoors.

So I like to think about the folks with dietary issues once we get to apps. We always do a veg tray and also a fruit tray. We usually try to do 2 different types of chips. So tortilla chips with salsa and potato chips with onion dip are pretty popular. While I know the meatballs are popular, with bbq already, that seems superfluous (to me.) So if doing a meat app, I would do something that isn’t beef. So like Buffalo chicken dip, chicken satay, shrimp cocktail, etc. But personally, I’d be doing a charcuterie board. Or at the very least, crackers with a couple cheeses and a couple meats. We also like to do that thing where you pour like jalapeno jelly over softened cream cheese. We’ve had deviled eggs go over variably at parties. But with potato salad, that is too much yellow pickle goop in my opinion.
I guess my invite got lost in the mail?

Thank you tj! Haha it’s not my party, I’m just helping the planner. I had the same thoughts about the meatballs so I’m glad you agree! Great ideas 🙌🏻

I second veggies, cheese (a soft cheese, a hard cheese, and a semi soft), dried fruit and olives. You can mix in salami and ham. And you can offer a variety of crackers or breads. Plus you can ask your guests to bring a couple things to add in.
This is usually my favorite appetizer because people can grab and eat as they want and with a variety you can usually please everyone.
