So they're discussing McCarthys possible picks for the 1/6 cmte.
I want him to pick GymSock and have Nancy veto it SO BAD. the line up is ridiculous, although how could it not be at this point.

I tried to step back for the weekend because yesterday was my birthday
This was a good speech to get back in the swing
Happy birthday!! And I agree it was a great speech. He really made the case for the AJP.

cakewench Bury the relevant in thousands of pages of irrelevant. It's vile (especially the cartoons), but like jkjacq said, I'm not surprised. ETA: I knew I would screw up that tag.

Hope they are sanctioned for a data dump. This is even more egregious because image files can't be ocr'd, which is a process that allows you to run run search terms over documents to only pull out relevant ones. So they basically made sure the shady hook attorneys would have to review tend of thousands of files unnecessarily that can't be culled through searching. Which means more time and money for plaintiffs. Fuck faces.

I feel for Japan. The Olympics shouldn't be happening, but I also can't blame them for not cancelling/postponing a second time. It was a no-win situation.
And with no foreign spectators (and now none at all), local businesses won't be getting the economic boost they were most likely anticipating when it was announced Japan would be hosting.

lots of questions on voting rights today. As well as Afghanistan. There have been some random ones involving the SEC and a tanked stock, and global tax. One was on a tweet that was issued about covid but I missed some of it.
They are kind of all over the place.

The market hasn't been having a great week, apparently somewhat prompted by Delta variant fears. 'The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped about 350 points, or 1.1%, in early Thursday trading, and the S&P 500 fell 1.3%. ' linkElizabeth Warren has asked for SEC to start looking at cryptocurrency regulation due to the scams seen in that sector. linkAlso, Wells Fargo shut down its personal lines of business accounts segment which is not all that surprising but I'm sure account holders weren't enchanted by their letters. link

Japan doesn't have the ability to postpone. That's on the IOC. They could theoritically cancel it against the wishes of the IOC, but breaching their contract might be a bit embarrassing. Japanese culture makes reneging on an agreement particularly difficult, I suspect. Eta: I don't think it should be anything to be embarrassed about. Just saying that it might be from their perspective. Their position here is horrible. The money is spent and they cannot postpone if the IOC says it's a go. It is very unfair

Ok, but are they going to donate to RNC PACs? Because, it’s a difference without a distinction then. I don’t believe them.

The President is signing a huge antitrust/consumer protection EO today and I. Am. Excited. 'Today President Biden is taking decisive action to reduce the trend of corporate consolidation, increase competition, and deliver concrete benefits to America’s consumers, workers, farmers, and small businesses. Today’s historic Executive Order established a whole-of-government effort to promote competition in the American economy. The Order includes 72 initiatives by more than a dozen federal agencies to promptly tackle some of the most pressing competition problems across our economy. Once implemented, these initiatives will result in concrete improvements to people’s lives.' Lower prescription drug prices by supporting state and tribal programs that will import safe and cheaper drugs from Canada.
Save Americans with hearing loss thousands of dollars by allowing hearing aids to be sold over the counter at drug stores.
Save Americans money on their internet bills by banning excessive early termination fees, requiring clear disclosure of plan costs to facilitate comparison shopping, and ending landlord exclusivity arrangements that stick tenants with only a single internet option.
Make it easier for people to get refunds from airlines and to comparison shop for flights by requiring clear upfront disclosure of add-on fees.
Make it easier and cheaper to repair items you own by limiting manufacturers from barring self-repairs or third-party repairs of their products.
Make it easier and cheaper to switch banks by requiring banks to allow customers to take their financial transaction data with them to a competitor.
Empower family farmers and increase their incomes by strengthening the Department of Agriculture’s tools to stop the abusive practices of some meat processors.
Increase opportunities for small businesses by directing all federal agencies to promote greater competition through their procurement and spending decisions.

www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2021/07/09/fact-sheet-executive-order-on-promoting-competition-in-the-american-economy/The hearing aid one is huge. Why no one thought people needed to hear until now is beyond me. If you can get glasses easily why not hearing aids. They may not be perfect but they can help. My mom's hearing aids were so insanely cost prohibitive for her that we ended up paying for them. It's insane. Like absolutely nuts how much they cost.
