Also I was going to take some pictures of the 6 or so wind turbines i can see from my house but was super confused when I couldn't. Because the trees are full of leaves and hide them fromy sight line.

Here are the three that are partially owned by village. We earn money for the electric company to get the electricity the generate, which is used to keep our village fresh and the festas happening. Ftr apparently the village also initially opposed it, but it's been very helpful to have. Also why is it so cloudy in July?!? It rained today which is almost unheard of.

blurnette989, We have municipal power and I so want to suggest installing a turbine or something, but I'm sure there would be a lot of pushback. People are always complaining about our prices though, so maybe if I approach it from a money saving standpoint.

I was going to come back here to talk wind turbine discussion and its already started!
I had this thought that ok yes maybe it changes your view but THE EARTH IS ON FIRE. The literal ocean is on fire. Everything is on fire. I don't care that you have to see a windmill if it can slow down the destruction of our species.
So, we're a main port of entry for them and I've seen the blades up close on the highway and omg they're sooooo big. You aren't putting them clogged up in a field like that one meme or they would destroy each other. That shit was photoshopped.

origami yes they are massive!! It's incredible how slow they seem to turn but the reality is so different.

I actually think they look nice when they're up on the hills out by us. They're a million times nicer to look at than electrical wires and poles.

We have them out in the middle of the desert (where no one lives) and along ridges. Because the middle of the state is a really pretty, desolate area. They’re pretty cool looking Our power company is pretty good about talking green energy. I don’t know if it’s because we have a lot of hydro ( which comes with it’s own set of problems) or what but every year elementary kids come home with energy saving light bulbs shower timers materials on conservation etc.

Wind turbines do kill birds and bats, though. There are studies going on now to develop deterring systems so hopefully that’s improved soon. I’d love to see solar panels going up on every building and over every parking lot. Put them in already developed places where power is needed. I hate them going in deserts. But power companies like having their stuff centralized.

We almost got solar panels a couple years ago but we didn't want to take out that big of a loan at the time.

Our solar panels go in next week! As long as we roll the tax credit into the cost, it will be $95/month ($10 more than our cheapest months) for 20 years or unless we pay it off sooner. Our house is <2 years old, and we plan to be here for that long.

I get mad about the lack of solar in CA. I think there should be a green new deal program just here to incentivize them more. But it needs to be larger scale than residential- it needs to be on every building and parking lot. I love the city and park parking lots that have them on top of shade structures as it’s just such a no brained and nice to also park in the shade. I’m driving through the northern part of the state right now and there’s a lot of opportunity. Of course, I just stopped at a restaurant with styrofoam cups and I haven’t seen one of those in probably 5 years, so it’s definitely different than my part of the state.

The other pro about solar panels for us is that when the grid goes down or there’s a local power outage, we still have power. We have an inverter that lets us use our solar power directly, rather than just selling it back to the power company (though we do that too when we create excess power). Seeing as how power outages seem to happen during heat waves, this has been a huge plus for us.

H and I were talking about this recently as we drove by one of those large storage buildings. No trees around, relatively flat roof so the perfect place for panels. They're huge, and could line it from end to end with panels. The owner gets them "free" by letting the power company get however much energy is generated until they're paid off, and then after that sells the energy to the power company. Same for every grocery store, big box store, office building, etc. To my simple mind it makes sense. I guess you have to think about the age of the building's roof like on a home, but if we could power most new structures that go up, that would be amazing.

Seeing as how power outages seem to happen during heat waves, this has been a huge plus for us. We don’t have that unfortunately but as power storage gets more efficient and affordable we do plan to upgrade. I was really hoping to get that with our solar panels but it was out of reach in our budget and the power storage options were not compelling enough to make it work. We are planning on taking the EV on our next trip to Oregon next month and I’m excited. We haven’t been able to yet because either we were in a rush and couldn’t stop for charging or because we need more space.

As most know I am in rural Northern Michigan and I am surrounded by farms. On that farm land are turbines, and they are neat to look at.. I see them like I do the big ol' irrigation thingies that I don't even know what are called, but they are part of the environment in which we live and a cool option to make farming easier. So no, they aren't perfect, but it's something to help ween us off the fossil fuel teat. (My tinted windows and my cat have also killed birds, for the record. I feed them and give them big trees for a beautiful place to live to make up for it 🤣)
When I went to Amsterdam it was also so cool to see the turbine farms out in the ocean.

I'm still bitter that my HOA refused our request for solar panels because we live on a corner lot and they're only allowed if you can't see them from the street. Doing my small part to save the planet from burning > an eyesore, you asshats.
